Chapter 2: The Scythe Who Meets A Hero

Chapter 2: The Scythe Who Meets A Hero

Stumbling back through the halls of the academy building, I couldn't help but feel a large, oppressive aura within me. The information that has now been granted me rising up and killing any chance I had of a jovial mood.

"Abyss King, huh?" I muttered out. The existence responsible for my creation. I would not say I am a force of good. Quite the opposite, actually. I am a force of ruin. Nor do I dislike the murky depths of my original home. Quite the opposite really, I miss them. No, it's none of those. The Abyss King, is the one thing I fear above all else.

"And now I have to fight him? Are you mad? What creation can fight against their creator?" I whisper in anger towards the archmage. However, I have no choice but to accept. I already said I'd do anything to save Seraphina, regardless of myself, so I've dug this hole already. No-one is going to make a liar out of me!

I slap my cheeks with my hands, which was surprisingly soft, and and tried to egg myself up. That's right, I've got a job to do, and being depressed is not going to help in any way shape or form, unless that form is some form of murderous weapon.

From what I understand, classes start soon, and I am to be attending those. The last time I attended school was... ummm... never? Oh no. I know how this ends.

I finally managed to find the room my class would be in, no thanks to my awful sense of direction. I have memories that Seraphina always sits towards the back, so I shall do the same for now. First rule of making friends, see who can be approached. Hopefully not everyone is like that goliath boy.

Finally mustering my courage and putting on an air of indifference, I open the door to the classroom and enter. As I do so, the room goes quiet. Already I hear mutterings about how weak I was, or how I had no talents or positives. I tried my best to refrain from lashing out at those who were harming my pride as literally one of the most dangerous weapons alive. Well okay, not alive, but conscious.

The classroom itself was a simple auditorium, where the teacher would stand down the bottom front, while chairs looked like stairs if it wasn't for the desks in front of them. There were three sections, the middle and the sides, all separated by actual stairs, and not seat stairs. The middle was by far the largest, and where most people were, with smaller groups being on the sides. I went up to an isolated position on the side closest to the door, and sat down. I had little idea what to do next, but luckily, that's when the teacher came in.

He was tall, wearing a large coat that was cream in colour, with yellow trims. He wore a thick jumper underneath, with some armour. His pants were baggy, the type to be mobile and insulated, and he wore boots. He had a simple sword on a belt underneath his jacket, which, before I forget to mention, goes down to his knees, and you could tell he was well built. He was older looking, with blond hair, a short blond beard, almost just stubble, and piercing blue eyes. He just screamed adventurer.

However, the thing that sent me most off about him, was this strange feeling of familial warmth coming from inside. Obviously, whoever this person was, Seraphina trusted and liked them. That was further cemented by how he smiled sincerely when he looked in my direction, and despite the anger and shame that had built up from the people muttering in the class, my emotions seemed to be put at rest. He cleared his throat, both as a signal to silence conversation, and to announce he was to start speaking.

"Good morning class! Today I have some exciting news!" His voice boomed out with a grand sense of authority, the type that made you think he honestly cared for the people he lorded over. "We have a new student who will be joining us this day" he continued. It couldn't be could it? Nah..."He is the summoned hero that all the empires banded together to bring here to deal with the threat of the Abyss! Please welcome Kai!" And I could not help but be surprised.

In through the door walked a handsome boy, of age 16 no doubt, and, like the uncle teacher in the room, he was also blond, his hair spiky, with blue eyes that seemed like a transparent ocean. He wore a simple armour with a tunic underneath it. However, what caught me most, was the sword he had round his waist. It was a sheath that was white, with blue lines, that looked like it locked the blade in place. The hilt of the blade was also white with blue lines, with a grip covered in bone coloured leather. And where the hilt met the blade/sheath, there was a single red gem, with what looked like a slitted eye.

"Excalibur" I muttered under my breath. Who would of thought I'd meet another Exalted Weapon in such a short time after waking. I notice the orb twitch to me. That's bad, I think he might have heard me. Kai himself looked up in my direction too not long afterwards, and calmly started walking up the stairs to my left. Probably just to get to someplace in the middle right? Where there are more people he can get along with?

"Hi there, my name's Kai, though you probably already know that. May I inquire yours" I heard a kind voice say to my left. In my sudden panic at being the centre of attention now, and having quite a few animal stares of pain pointed in my direction, I managed to stutter out a reply.

"Ah-h ah, yes... I'm Va-Seraphina, Seraphina Evermore" I splutter out, looking away to hide my embarrassment at my panic. Almost let loose my real name there, which would be bad, especially with Excalibur right there.

"That's a nice name." I hear him say. I will not be fooled though. Seraphina is most definitely a beautiful girl, and I will not let anyone take advantage of he-"do you mind if I sit next to you?" Was all he said to break me down. I, now not functioning properly, just mumbled out a broken compliance, to which he just smiled and sat. I wasn't used to kindness. Haven't had it shown to me in a millennia and a half. I was at a lost of what to do or say. Flesh interactions are scary.

The teacher just seemed to smile warmly at the scene, before continuing on with the lesson.

The lesson was over quickly enough. It involved reading some book. Thankfully I gained Seraphina's lexical abilities, so I wasn't hung to dry. However, it's what came after the lesson that threw me off.

"I'd like to see Seraphina and Kai after class. The rest of you are dismissed!" Came the voice of the teacher. While the rest of the people started leaving and whispering between themselves, I felt my nervousness rise. Like I know I promised to help the summoned hero and all, but thus is all far too quick! I'm not even used to being meat and bone and other stuff again yet.

After the rest of the class had left, me and Kai walked down to where the teacher was. Well, Kai walked, I just sorta...nervously shuffled? Yeah, that works.

"Seraphina, I'd like you to help Kai get settled in. I'm sure you can tell, but he is new here." Said the teacher in his usual charm. Kia merely looked at me with a smile.

"I'll be in your care then" was all he said. I was about to raise protest before I felt a spark boom within me. It was the moment of Seraphina's 'death'. My very nature forces me to act in the interests of the stolen wish.

"Yeah, sure, I can do that..."
