[A name, is what we call ourselves, how we identify one another. Every name is unique and every name has meaning] The images associated with what the large fluffy wolf was saying seemed to make it fairly clear. The little girl was still a bit unsure though.
With a bit of trepidation, she decided to ask, [Wha.. what's your name?] if she found out the big wolf's name, then maybe she could figure out what her own name was. But with the question, a feeling of calm and comfort descended on the small child, as if soothing her tired mind.
[This.. is my name] a flurry of images, sounds, feelings, emotions. Now she knew why she had felt that calming presence just before seeing all of this. It was a lot to take in, and it was a lot to try and sort. The wolf was patient as she went through the thought waves that she had received. Trying to sort out and understand what was being said and finally, as if something came together all at once, she saw it.
A beautiful white wolf, dancing at night in the spring, a large gorgeous full moon on a cloudless night shined brightly from above. Bathing the forest in beams of moonlight. The wolf jumped humorously from moonbeam to moonbeam, dancing a song only she could hear. [Beautiful...]
*cough* oh? It looks like it wasn't my turn to be embarrassed if that latest emotion she felt was any indication. It caused the little girl to smile a bit, glad she wasn't the only one. [So, your name is..] she screwed up her face a little trying to figure out how to translate it so she could understand, [Dancing in the spring moonlight? then.. can I call you Moonlight?]
She wasn't sure if she should be frightened by a wolf grinning or not, but currently, it was comforting to know she didn't dislike the name. [Well done, and yes, you may call me that. Now what is your name?] Moonlight had asked the question she really hoped she'd forgotten. Even after fully understanding what a name meant, she still didn't know if she had one.
Screwing up her face a little in thought, she absent-mindedly patted and brushed her fingers through Moonlight's belly fur. She didn't know how long she had laid there thinking, till finally, she gave up. [Can you give me a name?] Moonlight, for all that she was worth had tried to remain awake during the whole endeavor but had at some point had her eyes half-closed dozing.
At the sudden question though, her head snapped up to inspect the little girl. [There is much meaning in being given a name little one, it is our parents who give us a name.. ] Moonlight paused and the little girl thought she felt some apprehension, fear? or was it nervousness [..do you... want me to be your mother?]
Stolen story; please report.
Tilting her head to the left, then to the right, she thought about the word mother. Moonlight, when she had sent the word mother associated it with a lot of images and memories. So it was fairly easy to understand what mother meant after a bit of thought. So, if she was allowed to pick.. she nervously nodded, her voice a bit small even in her own head, [umm.. yes.. if you'll have me..]
She was almost overwhelmed from the feeling of joy and happiness Moonlight emitted, causing her to giggle despite the overwhelming feelings. They were far too much for her mind to handle, yet the feeling was far from unpleasant. [Then a name you shall have, a name fitting one found in the snow and ice] then all of a sudden, the images came fast and hard again. This time though, she was ready for it, and with some excitement, she started to decipher her own name.
The first image was of the forest in spring, the blooms and trees just beginning their journey, then summer, then fall, then finally it settled on the dead of winter. The forest was silent and frozen, ice had covered everything in a small sheet, giving the world a beautiful landscape of serenity. A bright full moon showed itself above, bouncing its rays across the landscape and illuminating it in silver tendrils. [My name is... Moonlight.. dances in Winter.. call me.. Winter!]
With a great shout, Winter threw her body upwards in excitement and without care of where she was currently sitting, and found herself as a result rolling uncontrollably down a rather large laughing Moonlight. Thankfully, she didn't hit the stone ground, a paw had reached out to stop her fall causing her to giggle in response. [My name is Winter], Winter's smile stretched from ear to ear at how much she liked the sound of her own name. She was so happy, she forgot to be embarrassed at being laughed at.
After a bit of time Moonlight finally got through her laughing fit, [Well done Winter, now then, if I am to be your mother, then we must feed you] Winter's belly rung out in such a large growl that it would have startled an alpha, causing Moonlight to blink several times in amusement while Winter's face turned scarlet. Setting the child down on the floor, Moonlight rolled over, then stretched herself upwards to her full height for a moment. She had been laying on her back in a rather uncomfortable position for a while to not startle the poor girl. [Now then, follow my pup, we'll go and get you some food]
Soft paw pads impacted the ground as Moonlight began to make her way further back into the cave, Winter's little feet pitter-pattered behind her. A new sound Moonlight had never heard in her cave before, causing her to smile.
