Toby sat down at a two seater with a coffee in hand. Maya got herself a donut and hot chocolate.

“So after this we’re going to buy my supplies then head home okay?” She muttered an “mhm” in between chewing. Meanwhile Ezra watched from a distance trying to figure out a way to approach him. His friend who was also the barista noticed him staring.

“You got a crush or something”

“What- I , I’m not gay!”

“I mean you keep disappearing all the time, maybe it’s to see your secret boyfriend”

“When am I disappearing?”

“I can name a few times,” his friend, Sky, giggled. If only he knew he was disappearing to kick ass. It’s not like he doesn‘t trust Sky but he would start bragging to people about being friends with Dove and there goes any chance of having a normal life. When you’re one of few people born with powers you either become a hero or a supervillain there’s probably no one who just goes about their normal life occasionally shooting lasers to fry their eggs.

“You wanna give this water to the table you were staring at?”

“Yes! I mean yeah if you want me to” Sky just laughed, his friend can be really odd sometimes.

He put the two glasses of water on the table and scanned Toby for anything that could start a conversation. The gold bracelet on his wrist stood out to him, it was thick and similar in design to the handcuffs he used earlier. This was probably another gadget.

“Cool bracelet man”

“You wanna see what it can do?” he responded in an excited tone, much more welcoming than the way he spoke to him before, maybe he just has a thing against superheroes like they killed his parents or something.

The bracelet whirred and a thin white string shot out and attached to the empty glass on the table, the glass then launched upwards and landed directly in his hand. They spoke about spiderman and comics and their favourite type of coffee until Toby saw the time.

“I have a lot of errands to do but fun talking man”

“See you later, Toby”

“Probably not”

And with that he left. What was that supposed to mean? He later learnt that it meant he lives far away in a dodgy part of town that Ezra certainly never planned on going to. That’s fine the superhero league will totally give him a place to stay when they see what he can offer.
