Forty three

“None of the communications work,” a technician reported with a tremulous voice.

“Keep trying.” Mark worked to recover the show. In the space of a few minutes, he had lost control of the action. Everyone in the valley was reacting to the situation in unplanned manners, and unpredictability was not good for the show. His cell phone rang and Mark cast a glance at the network feed. The show was back on the air, so he did not answer the phone; the producer would have to wait.

They no longer had a voice link to the valley on either the technical frequency or the victim’s frequency. That meant Mark was isolated from his own show. If he were personally to go into the valley, he would have to relinquish control of the show to a technician, which was something he would not do.

They would have to solve the problem from the trailer.
