Will I Always Be Weak?
Chapter 16. Into the Depths

Chapter 16. Into the Depths

"Woo!" Tayla screamed. She was having an amazing time in the lake. I cheered her on because I just realized I couldn't swim. Tayla was an excellent swimmer; her strokes forward and back were elegant. She seems almost like a professional. She swam for almost 3 hours straight, and when she finally came ashore, she was drenched. I spent most of the time while she was swimming, practicing my skills and testing out this body.

"Tayla! How are you such a good swimmer?" I asked.

"Oh, that? I loved swimming when I was younger, and being an elf helps too!" She smirked. While she touched her pointy ears.

"Oh, is that really it?" I asked her.

"So, Tayla, how does your race affect someone's abilities and strengths?"

"Your race? Ya, I'm pretty sure I read something like that in a book. It said something about each race having unique attributes. Elves are fast and have good agility; they are also very skilled in certain skills. Humans are just the average race; they have no extra stats, and their skills aren't amazing either. Even though humans don't regularly get really good skills, a hero can be born. A hero is one of the strongest beings in the world, and of course, they are only born of one of the weakest races!" she said, pouting.

"But I am the mixture of both!" she yelled, smiling again.

"But I'm still too small!" She stomps her foot on the ground.

"That's super cool, Tayla!" I say as I pat her on the head.

"Tayla, by chance, do you know anything about the demon race? I asked

"The demon race? Are you a demon big sister? Is that why you're asking? She said with her eyes wide.

"Ya..." I reply.

"Big sister... It's okay that you're a d-demon because it's you!" She said, giving me a slight smile.

"Demons, from what I've been told and from what I've read, are one of the strongest and most terrifying races in this world... Demons are known as the driving factor of the Great War, which was fought many years ago. It has been said that a single demon could kill hundreds of humans. But in stories, it was told that demons could evolve more than once and that there were different types of demons. The only reason the demons did not conquer this world was because of the great heroes. It was said that finding a demon in this world is extremely rare nowadays; the only place where they are known to be seen is in hell pits as their bosses or in the chaos realm... But no one has ever returned from there." She ends with a small shiver

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

"But sister, if you are a demon, why don't you know these things?" Tayla asked. She made a good point. Should I tell her about my past life? Or should I lie about my situation? I wasn't sure what was the right choice.

"Hey, Tayla Have you ever heard of someone being reborn in this world?" I ask

"Reborn? Like someone who wasn't in this world originally?" she replies

I "nod"

"I've read of something like that... but they've all been in fairytales." She ponders aloud.

"It's okay if you don't know!" I say, shaking my hands and smiling

"Sorry for not being able to help," Tayla says as she looks down.

"Well, Tayla, let's just say my lack of knowledge is a personal secret, okay!?" I tell her

"Okay..." she replies. A little disappointed

"Tayla, you said something about places called hell pits; what are they?" I ask, trying to brighten her mood.

"Oh hell pits?! Umm, hell pits are realms that are separate from this world. I think... They can vary in size, but what is inside of them is the important part! Monsters of all types can be found inside of them, each having rare loot to be harvested! Hell pits usually vary in danger levels; younger pits that are new to form tend to be weaker, and on the other hand, the oldest of ones can be almost a calamity. Hell pits tend to leak chaotic energy into this world, causing monsters to appear and beasts to transform like the wolves in this forest. So to counter the chaos, adventures are sent into the pit to kill the boss. When the boss is killed, they usually revive, but in certain cases, it has been told that the hell pit disappears. The final fact I know is that some hell pits turn into hell labyrinths. Hell labyrinths are great mazes that consist of the most dangerous monsters and traps. Labyrinths like this are practically unknown, even in stories... All I know is that the demons that rule these labyrinths can almost destroy all of this world by themselves." She finishes, breathing out an exasperated sigh.

"That's a lot," I say, dumbfounded. The waterfall raging in the background, the birds chirping, and the wind whooshing. Everything went quiet... A terrible presence came from behind the waterfall, it was calling me; it wanted me. My eyes seemed to only see black and white. My body began to move towards the lake. I reached the lake, and before I fell in, vines pierced the water, allowing me to walk on top. My eyes glanced back, and I saw Tayla's mouth moving, but I could hear no words come out. Her body seemed to move in slow motion; it was an awful feeling. I moved over the water, taking a long stride each step, the waterfall getting closer and closer. As I breached the raging waterfall, I saw a swirling purple portal emitting a strange energy. I walked closer and closer; there seemed to be a cave behind the waterfall, and in this cave was that portal... I approached it and raised my hand to its face. My hand made contact, and the world became normal once again. The portal began to suck me in, but I heard Tayla's voice behind me. I looked back and saw her reach for my hand. I reached back towards her and are hands locked. My body started to be forced into the portal and then I got whipped ahead. I was stuck in the portal and it was drawing both of us in; it pulled and pulled. I tried to resist, but I couldn't. My body fully emerged in the portal, and a sense of cold tingled my body... even with my skill activated. I looked forward and saw a message.

!Ding! You have entered a "Hell Pit"
