The Feast of the Creatures of the Cavern

The Feast of the Creatures of the Cavern

It was formed in darkness. It is hungry. It looks around and sees it is in a small cavern looking out into a forest, but it does not yet know what those are; it only knows Hunger and darkness. It notices something else next to it. (This thing is around the same size as the hungry thing. They both have 9 limbs: two arms ending with 4 clawed fingers, two digitigrade legs, and four long segmented limbs emerging from their backs each ending with a sharp blade-like top, and a rat-like tail. The creatures are covered in strange fur that seems to absorb light.)

Then the hungry one sees many more of these creatures within the cavern and it knows at once what they are to it; Prey. The hungry predator attacks the creature closest to it stabbing the Prey’s head with the blade-like tips of its segmented limbs. As if this was a signal every other creature in the cavern finds another and begins to fight and as soon as it starts it stops some instinct seems to have each kill only one other then as one the survivors feed on the corpses of the creatures they have killed. Each grows larger from the meal; the few that were damaged in their fights heal but are slightly smaller.

The first to make their kill was once the size of a mouse and now is the size of a rat. As the last finishes their meal the creatures of this cavern instinctively choose their next target and begin their deadly duels. When they finish the survivors are half of those who had their first feast. Many more are damaged this time but once more they devour the flesh of their fallen foes. They grow larger now, two feet tall.

They finish their meal and stand ready to fight once more. The first fighter finds its next Prey. The other creature sees it as well; they jump at each other; the first swipes with its claws but the other jumps back and stabs with its longer-bladed limbs this attack does strike but is not quite lethal. The damaged creature knew what was happening and managed to reach its opponent's feet with its tail. The seemingly advantaged creature flailed as it fell being dragged closer to its damaged foe then it stills as a blade limb tore into its chest and ended its life. Once more the cavern’s surviving creatures feed on their foes, this time few remain undamaged and the cavern’s floor is covered in crimson and violet fluids leaked from the multitude of creatures' wounds.

Once more they grow but only inches this time. Another round of savagery commences. This round takes longer, each creature seeming tougher. Yet once more only half remain. Then they feed this time there are more differences: some grow larger than others, others grow longer hair, some creatures' blades and claws seem longer or sharper, and some of the creatures grow glowing orbs from their heads; these orbs are diverse some are black with a single ring of glowing color, others are pure black other than a single glowing point, and yet others are glowing with a strange light that covers the whole viable area of the orb; these orbs are also at various levels of protruding some have them on pillars of flesh, others are sunken into the head with flesh covering them, and some are partially out partaily in; and the creatures have diverse number and position the only commonality being that the orbs are on their heads.

The first of the cavern to attack grows two glowing blue eyes of the sort that can be covered in flesh. The next round begins, and the blue-eyed creature’s foe this time is a larger creature nearly 3 feet tall. The larger charge stabs where it knows its opponent is, but the blue-eyed creature can see its larger foe and dodges slicing its claws into the stomach of its foe. The smaller creature claws into the chest of its larger foe as the larger creature desperately tries to tear its foe away from it with its arms and bladed limbs, but it fails and dies the blue-eyed creature once more eats. Growing sharp teeth and mandibles in its maw it feels a change in its throat it becomes larger as well now two and a half feet tall. The others in the cavern also change in strange and different ways each in their strange way.

In the next bout, the blue-eyed creature easily kills another creature as it uses its mouth to make a loud sound that seems to disorient the eyeless opponent. It grows larger and now it is 3 feet tall. The next 3 rounds go much the same against opponents that seem to not be able to function around the noise the blue-eyed creature produces. Each round it grows slightly larger and its head seems to feel stranger after each meal. Another round begins. This foe doesn't seem weakened by the noise, but the blue-eyed creature seems to be able to figure out where its foe is going to strike and manages to easily dispatch its foe. And for the next four rounds, it has no trouble. Each round seems easier for it as it grows slightly larger and its head begins to feel stranger each round.

The next round is much stranger as the air in the cavern seems to change the blue-eyed creature senses its next foe after its last meal but can not see it however it does feel something in the light from its eyes it directs the feeling of the light at is foe and it is as if a veil of shadows is broken around the creature that hid. The blue-eyed creature once more easily kills its foe. As it eats it feels as if its mind is on the precipice of something amazing.

It faces its next opponent, a creature that looks as if it has plants growing from it. The blue-eyed creature wins easily and ends its foe. After consuming its meal it gets an odd feeling as something flows into its mind. It understands things it can think it names itself Bob.

Bob understands now the other creatures are its siblings. Bob feels sad that only four now remain as each of the previous rounds reduced their number by half. Bob can speak. Bob tries to reason with its sibling that it instinctively knows to be its next opponent but Bob’s sibling doesn't understand. Bob tries to hug Bob’s sibling to show he doesn't want to fight, gently hugging the sibling seems to calm it. However after a moment, Bob feels pain as Bob realizes that the sibling has poisonous power and has used it on Bob. Bob realizes that their siblings are nothing but monsters and kills the creature the poisonous power immediately fades. Bob chooses not to eat the creature as Bob knows it is his kin.

Then Bob turns to leave, but sees that the last sibling blocks Bob’s way out of the blood soaked cavern. At this point Bob is 5 feet tall, kind of fat-looking as Bob’s flesh is extremely tough. Bob has short but coarse hair over Bob’s body thick enough to block Bob's previous siblings' claws. Bob’s segmented limbs have become spider-like legs with each ending with a dagger-like blade. Bob's tail has become non-existent and Bob’s feet are flat on the ground. Bob glows with radiant power as he wields the power of light. Bob’s last sibling is very different; the monster is 8 feet tall with long arms ending with nearly foot long and wickedly sharp claws. Its tail slashes behind it seeming to be only bone but ending with a blade like a sword and this blade seems to be cutting through the stone floor of the cavern as easy as the air. Where the segmented limbs used to be it is as if the limbs have become armor protecting its chest. The creature is gaunt, its skin is pale and thin, and its eyes are sunken deep into its wolf-like skull; one eye is red the other is purple. From its skull grows twisted horns similar in appearance to antlers.

Bob remembers seeing this sibling before it has pulled life from the jaws of defeat each time only just barely surviving each round and gaining only a little even permanently losing 4 other eyes. Bob had thought it lost its tail 3 rounds ago but thought that he must have been wrong. The two siblings face each other and begin to fight. Bob wins by blinding the monster with his power over light and then stabbing the creature's brain with his blade-like limbs. The monster falls dead and Bob walks past it seeing the light.

Bob steps out of the cavern into the forest, and Bob's head falls back into the cavern while his body falls out further into the forest outside of the cavern then the body is dragged into the blood soaked cavern.

The last creature that Bob killed had risen back up and killed Bob. (From now on I will be calling the monster Hunger.) Hunger eats the last two bodies then Hunger feels something in itself it feels a strange power well from within and crystallized in its chest. This power is the same as what connected Hunger’s tail and lets Hunger rise and see after Bob stabbed through Hunger's eyes.

Hunger sees a plane of strange translucent light before it it has many jumbled symbols but with it comes a burst of the inner power that Hunger now wields Hunger doesn't understand the symbols on the screen but it somehow knows that there are more screens with new things beneath the surface of this screen so Hunger wills the first screen away. A new screen appears Hunger can feel a part of it call to him he focuses on this part and something opens he feels he has a choice to take some more of the inner power or to gain something new that feels cold.
