“That will be one Dollar, Sir!” The middle-aged man across the counter hands me an item with a bright smile. It makes me feel a bit guilty about the lack of enthusiasm I might have displayed moments ago when I made my order.
“Thank you very much.” And so, I resolved to answer more earnestly as I took out my wallet.
“Have a nice day, and please enjoy the scenery!” She gives me a slight wave.
“Thank you, I will.” I assumed I sounded earnest if the unchanging smile on her face was any indication. I nodded my head in gratitude and took my leave.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
I wandered the road adjacent to the beach, aimlessly looking for a suitable resting place. The ocean view was a nice change of scenery, even if the heat was unbearable. I sat on the nearest bench and rested my legs from the long trip.
Was it worth it? All for this? Those are my thoughts as I numbly stare at the wrapped ice cream.
Not wanting it to melt, I quickly unwrapped the contents. What popped out was a simple serving of orange ice cream on a wooden stick.
The ice cream was tasty and just what I needed during this weather. I may not like sweet stuff, but I did enjoy myself.
However, …
