Chapter 2 : Invisible Confrontation

Chapter 2 : Invisible Confrontation

Under the dim light of the street lamps, New York City donned an enchanting beauty. The Interpol headquarters stood tall in the heart of the city as a symbol of power to every criminal in the world. From the top floor of an electronics engineering company, a man with golden hair and perfect eyelashes stood high above, savoring the view and the chaotic scent below. A series of electronic device malfunctions across major companies caused software shutdowns, plunging the city into a crisis.

Down below, in a small but cozy apartment, Jay William was focused on his computer screen. He was a talented programmer and an Interpol agent. With black-framed glasses and messy hair, Jay seemed lost in the world of code and new simulation devices, his face showing a look of delight.

Perhaps because he lived alone and had soundproof walls, Jay's apartment was incredibly quiet. Everything was so silent that he could hear his own breathing. Suddenly, a beeping sound broke the tranquility of the apartment. His phone lit up and rang incessantly, startling and confusing him. A call in the middle of the night meant either a wrong number from the other side of the world or an urgent work matter.

Jay quickly picked up the phone. On the other end was a familiar but unusually hurried voice.

"Jay, are you still awake? We're under a cyberattack! Get to headquarters as fast as you can; we can't wait any longer!" Christopher's voice was filled with urgency.

Hearing no response from Jay's end, Christopher shouted into the phone, "Jay? Jay, are you there? Answer me if you are!"

Jay took a deep breath before hanging up on Christopher, trying to stay calm. Perhaps it had been too long since he last felt this thrill. "A cyberattack, huh? It must be serious if Chris is calling me at this hour," Jay muttered as he lit a cigarette.

Regaining his composure, Jay grabbed his laptop and bag, then headed out. This was the beginning of his story, a single call from Chris that would turn his life upside down and push him out of his routine.

In the dead of night, as everything around was asleep, Jay hailed a taxi and headed straight to Interpol headquarters. The journey was chaotic, with city cameras and even home cameras hacked, and companies losing millions within 30 minutes due to software shutdowns.

Arriving at the Interpol headquarters, Jay saw a figure in the distance, tense and biting his nails, constantly tapping his feet. Christopher, seeing Jay step out of the taxi, rushed over.

"Why did you hang up on me without saying anything? Never mind, now's not the time. Do you know? Multiple backdoors have been installed in major companies, leaking user data and security information, even the cameras are..." Christopher rambled, visibly distressed.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Backdoors? Trojan Horse? Any new intel on this?" Jay asked.

"Unfortunately, no new information. Everything's been blocked from some source," Christopher replied slowly.

Jay remained silent for a few seconds before his gaze sharpened. "Take me to your private room," he instructed.

Without a word, Christopher led Jay to a room only he could access. After scanning his fingerprint and retinal biometrics, Christopher activated the system in the room and looked at Jay. "It's your turn, Jay."

Jay sat down and began working, his focus so intense that he ignored the chaos and noise of the Interpol team summoned in the middle of the night. After scrutinizing the vulnerabilities in the malicious software installed in the companies, Jay turned to Christopher. "Hey, can you work fast enough?"

"Of course not. I don't even like this field; it's just my old man..."

"This is no time for jokes, Chris," Jay cut him off, glaring sharply.

Christopher shivered but grinned at Jay. "Damn it, Jay, you're getting on my nerves. What do I need to do?"

Jay's face grew more serious, making his features even more striking. "I'll give you three minutes," he said, then began typing lines of code to counteract the backdoors. Jay's fingers flew over the keyboard so quickly that he seemed to finish one line before moving to the next. Christopher was equally focused, biting his lip in concentration.

"Damn it, what kind of bastard installs this many backdoors just for cyberterrorism?" Christopher cursed angrily.

The tension was palpable, and neither Jay nor Christopher could hear any sound except their own heavy breathing. After half an hour of struggling with error messages and red alerts on the screen, a green "Access Granted" notification appeared, causing Jay to tense up.

"Christopher!" Jay shouted.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it," Christopher muttered in frustration.

Jay and Christopher sat silently before the computer screen, the dim blue light reflecting off their faces. The last lines of code were entered, and they awaited the results.

"A-C-C-E-S-S," the screen displayed, and Jay and Christopher exhaled in relief. Christopher moved his chair closer to Jay. "Go for it, Jay. Show them what a real virus looks like!"

Jay swiftly continued to penetrate the backdoor system, restoring security and bringing order back. On the other side, someone was surely upset about their plans being thwarted by an unknown talent.

"Wow, Daniel, this is incredible. We spent two years on this plan, and it got busted in an hour. What kind of monster did this?" Robert stood up excitedly.

Grace smirked at Daniel. "I hope you're not mad, Daniel."

Daniel sat on the sofa, arms resting on the armrests, legs crossed, smirking. "Garcia, Martinez. I'm disappointed in you."

Grace frowned. "Hey, jerk, before you talk about being disappointed in someone, take a look at yourself."

Daniel turned, his deep blue eyes gazing at the computer screen in front of him. "I guess we need to meet this brilliant mind in person."

Christopher patted Jay on the back, both happy and regretful because he knew Jay didn't want to reveal his work and stand out. "Hey, Jay, you really don't plan to tell the truth? Let those idiots in the tech department take all the credit? Interpol's recruitment standards must have dropped; the tech department's full of trash."

"I'm going to hide," Jay said with a dazed look.

"What are you talking about?" Christopher paused, confused.

"I accidentally revealed my location..." Jay replied stiffly.

This marked the beginning of an unforeseen story in the future of Jay William and Daniel Johnson. A future neither bright nor sweet, yet unbounded and not dark either. A future where two people found happiness.
