I stared at my new face for a few moments before sighing. As soon as I saw my reflection, I realized that I had entered a world that had given me so much. There was no longer any doubt about it.
Now, I had to decide what to do and where to start. Alethea, my new body, was weaker than my previous one. Although it is much rarer in this world, there is magic and energy called manna or aura that knights use. There are also some other types of energy that I met in the game, but it's not worth thinking about at this point. I think I can do something about it since she probably hasn't touched that kind of stuff.
I wondered about the unfinished pentagram on my face. Every time I saw it in the past, I wondered what it held. But when I touched it, I didn't feel anything. It was just a scar, probably related to demons, as some books I found in the game mentioned that demons like to mock their victims. Shaking my head, I gathered my thoughts.
Before I escape from here, I should visit a secret place that opens up if you do a lot of quests in the church branch and accumulate enough prestige. At some point, there will be a quest in which you have to find traces of the missing researcher from the church. At the end of the quest, you find a skeleton infected with demonic energy instead of the researcher. After destruction, the explorer's diary falls out. After reading it, we learn that the church has a secret room that was built before the large-scale construction of the church, by the founders of the church. By opening the secret room, we can get some things, including a magic card that may lead to one of the good items in the game.
I can leave this place through the secret passageway in the game, but I don't know if I can take advantage of it in reality.
It is necessary to check all this as soon as possible without arousing suspicion, although perhaps no one will doubt me. I finally made up my mind and left the room. Determining the approximate direction of the secret room, I started walking there. However, as soon as I had to turn the corner, I froze. A figure appeared before me that I would not want to meet: the same exquisite figure with living armor on it, it was Lunetta, one of the two women standing on the podium behind Arken at the time.
My thoughts quickly swirled before it occurred to me how everyone welcomed these figures in the game. I let go of my head, holding my hand over my heart. As I had noticed in the game, speaking up if they didn't address them was not respectful. I remained silent and maintained that pose, thinking that the other side might just be passing by. But after waiting quite a long time, she never left. Finally, I couldn't keep this pose and had to speak.
"Her Holiness Miss Lunetta, do you want something from me?"
After asking the question, I waited, but she still didn't say anything. After waiting a little longer, I spoke again.
"If Her Holiness Miss Lunetta doesn't want anything from me, then I'll go."
Keeping my head down, I walked around her before starting to walk, changing direction. After thinking about it, I realized that the middle of the day was not the best time to go to the secret room: if she followed me, it would be hard to explain. So, I had to go to another place where there is another exit from the church. This was also known from one quest in the game.
But as I took a few steps forward, a voice suddenly sounded. It was very pleasant, but the emotion contained in the voice was barely perceptible.
"You hesitated?"
I didn't understand what she meant, which caused me to subconsciously look back. I thought maybe she wasn't talking to me. But when my gaze fell on her, I saw white eyes looking directly at me.
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
She maintained the pose of when she stood in front of me, but her head was turned to the side, making her look at me. Realizing this, I let go of my head and asked doubtfully.
"I don't understand what Her Holiness Miss Lunetta is talking about."
I tried to figure out what she meant by that myself. She also said some pretty cryptic things in the game, and I don't know why she is here now. Instead of answering, she kept looking at me before looking away and walking away.
As I watched her, a thought occurred to me. Perhaps the hesitation she was talking about was that I didn't immediately respond to her. It was only now that I understood her question that made me think.
Perhaps my unpreparedness could cause more problems than I thought. Without thinking long, I had already made up my mind, heading for the secret room. Luckily, there was no one around, and the place I came to was quite remote. It was a fairly narrow corridor, with a recess in the wall.
As soon as I saw this place, I remembered one more thing. To open this room, you need a stone, a gem that you can get during those missions. At first, I did not think about it because the game only had dialogue about getting the stone.
But now, thinking back, I felt a little stupid. After looking for a few more seconds at the recess in the form of damage to the wall, I subconsciously sighed. After looking back and forth, it seemed the only thing left to do was to get out of here as soon as possible. I can pick up the stuff in it if I get a chance later.
This time, I took quick steps towards the library. Before my eyes was a rather huge door, with a majestic view. In front of which stood two knights, just as huge as the previous two near the meeting room.
Unlike the game where I had to get permission before entering the library, the doors opened before me as soon as I approached. Maintaining my composure, I entered the library and began pacing back and forth under the shelves of books. The place was very huge, just like all the other places in this church. There were both large shelves and small ones, and looking at it at first glance, one would think it was not practical.
But if you wait, you could see how someone wanting to take books from above could just stand on the platform next to the big shelf. Then when you use the lever on it, the magic would activate, causing the platform to slowly float. This was also shown in the game, although it was not possible to use it.
Remembering the place where the secret passageway was, I walked slowly forward. Along the way, those who met me bowed their heads with reverent faces. They were all dressed in light clothing, but most of the people in the library were girls covering their faces. This kind of behavior could only be seen in the game in a church. But unlike them, Althea did not cover her face. So you could say that Althea had quite a high status after all.
Passing through various shelves of books, I finally stopped at a long secluded place. It was a separate room where there was also a small table and chair where I could read more comfortably and privately. There was also a small shelf of books in the corner of the room. As I looked back at the people and looked around, reading, I confirmed that no one was coming this way. And so, with the door closed, I walked with quick steps to the shelf.
There were books arranged just so, and I tried hastily to remember which combination opened the secret passageway. Vaguely remembering the colors of the books, I began to put them in order quickly. But for some reason, nothing worked. Again and again, I tried, but still, nothing happened. There was nothing else to do but sit down in a chair to think about the situation. But the more I remembered, the more puzzled I became because the combination had to be right.
My gaze fell back on the books before I remembered one more detail. I immediately jumped up from my seat. The thing is, when I arranged the books, I did it on the very top shelf, but it should be done on the middle one. My hands moved quickly, grabbing one book at a time and arranging them on the second shelf one by one. The moment I placed the last book at the end, the books faintly began to flicker before disappearing again. Then there was a click on the wall to my right. Looking there, I saw that the wall had pulled back, showing a slight march.
Without hesitation, I stood up and grasped it with my hands. But, as before, because of Althea's weak physique, I was able to push the door back very slowly, opening the passage behind me.
It took a few minutes to make, enough room from where I could slip in.
