Kevin backtracked, all the way through the open doors, shoving them open.
"C'mon, kid, you can't keep running forever," cried the Pied Piper. He was right. Kevin wasn't sure how he had been running for so long, but it was abnormal. He should've stopped after a minute or two. However, he still felt energy hiding from him, as though it didn't want to be used.
"That was amazing," Greg exclaimed, smiling. "The Pied Piper is a really good hypnotist, yet you escaped from his trance easily!"
Kevin didn't reply, heaving each breath. Just because he knew he had energy didn't mean he could use it. Still, he kept himself focused on the next building ahead of him, the Alchemy Building. Because, of course, it didn't make sense for something that could have disastrous consequences to be a part of the main building.
"And you seem to have a plan! Hey, I'll give you some energy, okay?" In a flash, Kevin felt awake. A surplus of energy allowed him to pick up the speed, outpacing the ones following him for just a few steps before they, too, started to pick up the speed.
In Mini's case, it looked like she was being dragged, rather than running, while the Pied Piper seemed to just be having fun.
"If you could just do that, you should've done it earlier!" Kevin berated.
Instead of seeming sorry, Greg smirked. "Why would I give someone who had no hope any of my precious energy? Plus, this body doesn't contain much in the first place."
"You mean that isn't the real you?"
"How about you worry about escaping in one piece, hey?"
Finally, Kevin reached the Alchemy Building, which was always open.
The walls blurred as Kevin raced through the building, looking for an open room. Finally, he found one, though he did not go through it right away. He needed time.
He turned a corner, reaching the next intersection, where he decided to turn right. At the next, he turned left, then right, left, right, turning until the directions started to become completely random. Unfortunately, he was starting to get tired again, which didn't help as heard voices coming from the corner he passed.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
With the next turn, however, he seemed to have lost them. But he didn't slow down, still running full speed.
Eventually, he returned back to the open classroom. It was so quiet that it unnerved Kevin, but he still didn't stop, reaching into cupboards, taking out glass equipment.
"Salamander's Blood, Amp Mushrooms, Knockout Grass, Boomshrooms, Ifrit's Breath... What are you making?" Greg asked, preening over the ingredients laid out.
"A failed product," Kevin replied, now wearing cloth around his face, as he carefully mixed certain amounts of ingredients. "One that got me into a lot of trouble. Not only did I blow up the room, I also-"
"Stop right there!" Mini cried, panting. "Please!"
The Pied Piper appeared from behind her, seeming to be in much better condition, but still tired. "Yeah," he agreed. "This chase has become stale."
"As you wish," Kevin answered, turning around with his hands up.
The two of them greedily walked forwards, both carrying a dangerous gleam in their eyes.
"Ask them who will get the credit," Greg ordered.
"What good will that do?" Kevin quietly shot back
"A lot more than you'd think."
Sighing, Kevin obliged. But with slightly more flair. "So," he called out, taking a seat nearby, "Which of you two will get the credit for my head?"
"There's three of us!" called out the sword. "And obviously us!"
"Nope," the Pied Piper shot back with a glare. "I need this more than you two. So, if you would just back off-"
"Not in your wildest dreams! Just remember that you're next!"
"Uh, you two, can we please just focus on getting him this time? I really don't want to chase him again!" Mini cried, pleading in between breaths.
Kevin, once again sighing, responded to that. "I think you're worrying about me too much. See?" He pointed at his concoction, which was bubbling even more violently than before. "You didn't even notice that."
Mini's sword was the first to say something. "Oh, sh-" The sword was drowned out by the sound of the explosion that rattled the entire building. Kevin covered his face, making sure the cloth stayed where it was, until the blast dissipated.
Finally, once the wind became low enough for him to see, he saw Mini and the Pied Piper lying on the ground, covering their heads. Their clothes were ripped and torn, showing off the burns they now had on their backs. It looked much worse than Kevin intended.
The two stood up at the same time. Their eyes were filled with only hatred, as their chests rose and fell quickly.
"You're dead," Mini stated, lunging at Kevin quickly, the sword properly in her hand now. She seemed serious about it, but her body started wobbling, falling short. Her blade barely missed his toes, being dropped from her shaking palms.
The Pied Piper also fell to his knees, though he covered his mouth.
"It's Knockout Grass," Kevin stated, picking his way over Mini's body. "You'll be out like a light. Pretty big dosage, too... I'd give it at least a day until you wake up. Two at the latest." Soon after he left the room, the two went unconscious.
