First, I summoned my status window by calling it out loud. After memorizing how it looks, I summoned it through visualization; I imagined it appearing in front of me.

“What’s next?” I asked the gaming expert.
“Based on the status window, we should get an MMORPG-system. If that’s the case, we’ll be using the status window and party window most of the time. Try calling out the latter.”
““Party Window”” Kuroha, Mitsuha, and I said.

Umm… what’s with the name?
“With that, the experience we gain from killing monsters will be distributed to us equally. That means we can get stronger at the same pace. As the leader, I can also change the experience distribution, but I won’t be changing it until we add more members to the party.”
Is no one going to comment on the party name?
“I’m sure we can survive by ourselves. Why do we need to add more to our group?” Kuroha asked.
“You see, with a weaker member, we could get more from killing monsters. If I fill the other four slots with level 1s, our leveling speed would be much faster. Well, if Kyouya-sama doesn’t like using others, we can leave the party as is.”
Ah, forget it... “No, we’ll go with your plan. To be part of the last one thousand, we have to stay as one of the strongest survivors. We have to take every opportunity to become stronger.”
“I concur” Kuroha added.
“Ok, with that out of the way, let’s discuss our first move. I suggest killing as fast as we can the moment the event starts.”
“And why is that?”
“If it’s really like an MMORPG game, we might get achievements like getting the first kill or something along the line. Such achievements are one of a kind and might give a permanent boost in our power. That would push us to the top. Furthermore, the other survivors might think of us as their saviors, giving us the luxury of choosing party members.”
“Valid point, what do you think?” I turned to Kuroha.
“I’m fine with it.”
And for courtesy, I also asked: “Mitsuha?”
She gave a nod of agreement.
“That settles it. We’ll hunt down monsters as fast as we can.”
I pulled out three talismans and gave one to Kuroha and Reika. “We’ll have to spread out to kill more enemies so use that.”
“A communication ward, certainly brings back memories.” Kuroha said.
“What about me, Kyouya-sama?” Mitsuha asked.
“You can’t hunt alone so you’ll be staying with me.”
She lightened up upon hearing that.
Checking the time, I said: “Only three minutes left, let’s wait in the hallway.”
As we strode to the door, Kuroha and Reika entered their spirit form; Mitsuha was already in her spirit form so she just followed quietly.
Black feathery wings burst out of Kuroha’s back, going through the holes she made on her purple kimono beforehand. As her eyes turned golden, a naginata with crimson blade appeared on her hands.
Overall, she still looked like a human. It was much different for Reika.
Aside from the black exoskeleton covering her cheeks, Reika’s face remained the same. Her body, on the other hand, went a major change. Exoskeleton covered her body and eight spider legs came out from her back. Red tribal marking appeared on her body as a spider sack sprouted from her lower back.
Her shadow expanded in a short while and she entered it like it was a pool. With only her head poking out, she said: “I’ll go to the twenty-third floor once everything starts.”
“I’ll hunt on the twenty-fifth. Kyouya-sama and Mitsuha-chan can hunt here.” Her hand blurred and a square piece of the ceiling fell to the floor, exactly a pinch away from Reika’s head.
“Hey! That almost hit me!” Reika scowled.
“Oops, my hand slipped, sorry.” Kuroha spoke with her ever-so-bright expression.
“This isn’t the time for jokes, you two.”
“She started it.” Reika complained.
“I lost control of myself. I’m sorry, Kyouya-sama. And forgive me, Reika-san.”
“Hmmp!”
Entering the last ten seconds, I drew the katana on my waist. My eyes turned red as immense power surged through every fiber of my body.
‘It has been a while, o young sword demon.’
I ignored the old voice in my head.
“This is my only order - do not die.”
““As you wish, Kyouya-sama.””
TIME’S UP!
Let’s get this party started!
A humanoid lizard appeared at the same time as the panel.
It stood at around six to seven feet. Green metallic scales covered its body aside from its chest and the underside of its tapering tail. Its head was elongated with jet black horns sprouting from its scalp, and a pair of wings large enough to cover its body was attached to its back.
There was also a panel floating above its head.
Dragonewt - Level 27
In less than a second, I leaped to the monster and sliced off its head.
ACHIEVEMENT!
You are the first to kill a monster with a sword.
Reward(s):
Legendary Title: Sword Emperor
Supreme Skill: Grand Sword Aura
I glanced at the panel for a second before jumping to the monster sending me its bloodlust.
It took me a split second to identify the new enemy as the same type of monster as the one I killed. But this time, I sliced open its chest and yelled “Now!”
I jumped to the side as a beam of flames shot towards the monster, incinerating its innards.
LEVEL UP!
I gave Mitsuha a nod before grabbing her and searching for more targets.
**(Reika’s POV – 3rd Person)**
Swimming in shadows, Reika approached a dragonewt in a flash.
When she was close enough, four of her spider legs shot to the monster’s chest. She let her shadows crawl over her limbs and into the monster’s body before expanding into spikes.
ACHIEVEMENT!
You are the first to kill a monster with shadows.
Reward(s):
Legendary Title: Shadow Empress
Supreme Skill: Greater Umbrakinesis
“Hehe” A chuckle escaped her lips as she pulled her legs back into the shadows.
She tested out her new ability by sending shadows out of her pool. Seeing it work, she blocked all source of light, her smile widening as the hallway became her playground.
She could even expand it and change its properties without spending any spiritual energy. After a few experiments, not even sound could escape her world, a world of pure darkness.
**(Kuroha’s POV – 3rd Person)**
ACHIEVEMENT!
You are the first to kill a monster with a spear
Reward(s):
Legendary Title: Spear Empress
Supreme Skill: Grand Spear Aura
Kuroha smiled brightly; being the first has quite a nice ring to it.
In a good mood, she raised the dead body on her spear and slammed it onto the incoming monster. She sent her left hand to the monster’s head shortly and fired an air bomb at point blank range.
The monster’s head exploded, sending its blood all over the place. None of it reached Kuroha since there was a thick layer of wind covering her body.
ACHIEVEMENT!
You are one of the first three to kill a monster with wind
Reward(s):
Supreme Skill: Greater Aerokinesis
Her smile stiffened after reading the panel. She, the Terror of the Skies, one of the strongest spirits in the world, didn’t get first place with her main element?
A bit irritated, she placed a highly concentrated air at the tip of her spear. She shot it at the other end of the hallway as she swung her weapon.
Due to the force behind her swing, the air took a crescent shape and cut everything in its path. By the time it hit the wall, it exploded, sending a strong gust of wind back to Kuroha.
Seeing the amount of destruction she could create, the monsters creeping closer to her stopped in their tracks. Their numbers wouldn’t do anything to the monstrosity in human skin.
Unfortunately, it was too late to run.
The smiling reaper has already set her sights on them.
“Ara ara, aren’t you going to attack?”
