Cherry blossom trees filled either side of the road, birds chirped happily hidden among their branches, and beneath was lush greenery covered here and there by patches of cherry blossom petals. It was spring, and most of all a fresh turning point in my life. I was about to officially be a highschooler. I had bid farewell to my well... accursed middle school life. Ahem, none of that matters now because I'll be starting it all afresh from now onwards. I paused for a while then rechecked my hair and new uniform, just to make sure everything was in good condition. No mistakes could be made on first day of school. It was critical in getting into descent social circle.
A bit later I reached the railway station. I decided to commute by train as it was faster than by bus and the new school, I'll be going to was just few meters from where the train stops, there. I was just standing on the platform enjoying the view. It was really beautiful, the cherry blossom trees that had grown on either sides of the railway track, which was now covered in petals. Looked like a painting come to life.
"Ahh if spring lasts forever..."
I said in exact unison with another voice. Wait a minute did that just happen. Eh?
I looked besides me; there she was. A girl in twin tails. She seemed to be the same age as me and had a similar uniform as mine. She had a sour expression in her face as if almost embarrassed. I meanwhile had my mouth agape and staring at her. How indecent of me... Just as she was about to say something a gust of wind blew past us and a cherry blossom petal went into my mouth almost choking me.
"Ahkshop bleh bleh”, I quickly spat it out. Oh, darn how embarrassing. Curse the wind you ruined me for good now. It's all over sob sob, my descent high school life. She sure would go tell her friends how she met some guy at the railway station and how a funny thing happened to that guy, which would make me a good laughingstock on the very first day. Rest in peace myself. All this time I was crouched down and muttering to myself.
"Umm, are you alright? Hey... hello... you, ok?", the girl asked in a sweet voice.
I looked back up at her, who had a troubled expression in her face. Unconsciously I started glaring at her large glittering eyes. Wait what am I doing? I stood up, snapping back to reality.
"Are you ok?", she asked again.
"Ah, y-yeah yeah I'm fine. It's just a Sakura petal.", I answered awkwardly but tried to be confident.
"Hmm, but you seemed like you were in some big trouble. What were you muttering all of a sudden."
Ehh she noticed!
"Ah ha ha ha never mind me, oh by the way you’re XXX high too?", I asked averting her question.
"Oh yes it's my first day. Oh, you're from XXX too huh? A freshman?"
"Oh yes, it’s my first day. What about you?"
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
"Well, I'm the same as you."
So, she was a freshman? Well for now it didn't seem like she was the type go blabbering around, how some random boy she met on her way pathetically almost choked a cherry blossom petal. Oh yeah it was fine either way. Cause there was a probability of "that random boy" being almost anyone. As she didn't know my name at all.
There was one other thing that made me concern. It was that, this whole incident seemed like it had happened earlier or something similar...
"So, what's your name?"
"Haruki", I answered almost instinctively.
Oh dam, why did I say my name!
"Oh, a spring child!?", she exclaimed as she said.
I didn't understand what was so special about it. It's just a popular name in Japan. *Oh wait*, I used this chance to ask what her name was.
"So... what's yours?"
"Oh, I'm Fuyuko"
"Ah I see, so that's why you were so excited..."
Fuyuko could mean winter's child, which well was the exact opposite of my name. Spring's childe. But why be so excited? They were just names...
"Oh, here comes the train.", she said as I was once again was lost in my own thoughts.
.
.
.
The train was well partially filled as it wasn’t yet rush-hour, but why in the word did that girl keep so close to me. Was she not ashamed being with me? Hmm? I tried my level best to ignore her as some students who also seemed to be from our school were in the train. It would be bad if they see us together. Chatting so freely with each other. And wouldn't it be bad for her...? Wait what am I even thinking. Oh gosh girls are after all dangerous creatures!
"Hih he he"
Fuyuki's light giggle made me snap back once again into reality. I looked at her.
"What?", I asked.
"Nothing nothing, your expression just now seemed a bit funny.", she said ending that with a small, cute giggle.
"Eh..um..sorry about that...", I replied scratching my head.
Then she smirked. SHE SMIRKED! It made her look as if she was the trickster hidden in the form of an angel. Wait I don’t even know her much, we just met!
"You are a funny guy, Haruki.", she said.
"Is that so. Sorry about that.", Even though I replied bit coldly what she just said got to me. As that was one thing I didn't want to hear. Well for the magic of it, I managed to control my feelings. But I was certain this girl too was about to make fun of me from here onwards. Better keep my distance once we reach school. And ohhh I wish were in different classes.
"You're no fun Haruki", She said puffing her cheeks.
Didn’t she just say I was funny? It seemed she might had lost interest in me but continued chatting nonsense with me until we headed to school. It was all like, what middle school you were in and bla bla bla.
It was too late until I realized how deep a pit of trouble, I was about to fall into. We were already calling ourselves with our given names...
