Chapter Three

Meanwhile, the subtitles displayed:

"Just repaired for 10 minutes. It seems the system is fixed now."

"The first livestream and such a major bug. The organizers should send apology letters to all gamers, shouldn't they?"

"Actually, I was quite looking forward to the development after that plot twist. Now, returning to the main storyline feels like going back to a god-mode perspective, lacking the element of surprise."

"I feel the same way!"

"Also, I was really anticipating the recent plot twist, and after a 10-minute break, it seems like we're back to the same old story."

Sophie walked up to Pierre, her face filled with anger. Just as everyone thought she was furious with the unconscious Pierre, she turned around and shouted at the bodyguard holding a whip nearby, "Call an ambulance!"

Subtitles suspended in the air crazily popped up again.

"Shouldn't it be Sophie splashing cold water on him to wake him up? Or, immerse Pierre in cold water to keep him conscious!"

"Yeah, I remember that! Then Pierre developed the ability for wounds to heal automatically and cold resistance."

Sophie almost forgot this was in a game, everything strange happening wasn't strange at all. But she didn't care anymore, to hell with the game! now she had to save a life.

In the blink of an eye, the scene returned to the hospital room. Upon arriving at the hospital, the storyline triggering the encounter with her sister would unfold. Just like a moment ago, Sophie heard someone crying, and then she saw Léa, looking weary, quietly sobbing in a wheelchair. She shifted her body, and the crisp sound of high heels against the floor disrupted Léa, who was earnestly crying. "Miss Sophie, you're awake," she said.

Sophie didn't know why she had lost consciousness. Every time she found herself in the hospital room, she was lying next to Pierre. Without considering anything else, she pulled out a tissue to wipe away Léa's tears, then stared at Pierre in the hospital bed with a complex expression. Afterwards, she walked out of the hospital room and made a phone call.

Not long after, a group of people in black passed by her, heading straight for the hospital room. They swiftly took away the struggling Léa.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"What are you doing! Let go of me!"

The intense commotion woke Pierre from his unconscious state. As he opened his eyes, he witnessed his sister being taken away by a group of people in black, while Sophie stood at the doorway, wearing a cold and grim expression, observing everything. His breathing became rapid, and the instruments around him started beeping in response.

Sophie stepped aside, making way for the doctors rushing into the room. Watching Léa being taken away and Pierre struggling in the hospital room, she turned and walked into the dim corridor. In her mind, she silently said, "Hurry and become stronger, defeat me, Pierre."

In the snowy white room, there was only a large white bed. Pierre, dressed in a white hospital gown, lay on the bed, still in an unconscious state.

Sophie lifted her wrist to check the time on her watch. "How much longer until he wakes up?" she wondered.

The researchers nearby checked the data and their timers, "Just 5 minutes."

The clock on the wall ticked away, and the five minutes seemed unusually prolonged, each second echoing with a rhythmic tick-tock.

Finally, Pierre's fingers twitched slightly, and then his hand and fingers began to move more significantly, indicating clear signs of awakening.

Sophie quickly handed the items in her hands to the nearby assistant, discarded the white coat from her body, and hurried towards the laboratory.

As she entered the laboratory, the door behind her immediately closed. Pierre was now fully awake and sitting up.

He flexed his joints, realizing that his entire body was intact, devoid of any pain.

Sophie cast a cold, indifferent glance at him and then walked towards a raised platform nearby. At that moment, a white table and chair were slowly ascending from the floor.

After taking her seat, she looked at Pierre. "Aren't you curious why I'm treating you like this?"

Pierre had just awakened and was still a bit disoriented, feeling very perplexed about the current situation.

Sophie didn't bother explaining further. At that moment, the wall in front of the laboratory opened up like a television screen.

In the video, a 10-year-old Pierre appeared, dressed neatly and just getting acquainted with his new mother. The new mother was very gentle, accompanied by an adorable little sister who often called him "Brother Pierre" from behind.

He loved his new mother and sister very much. His mother would prepare delicious meals for him, buy him new clothes and toys, and even pick him up from school. He was proud to introduce them to his friends, truly cherishing and loving them. He studied diligently and was growing up excellently.

At the age of 20, he brought home a girlfriend named Sophie. Sophie had always been filled with admiration and curiosity for the maternal love he spoke of. When she met Pierre's mother, Sophie was visibly surprised—she looked exactly like the mother depicted in the photos and albums at home.

Ten years passed, and her mother remained as young and beautiful as ever. It seemed that a woman nourished by love truly doesn't age.

Throughout the meal, Sophie remained in a state of confusion, displaying a lack of composure and accidentally knocking over a glass of red wine. The fallen fork on the floor also indicated her nervousness.

Pierre smiled and explained to his parents that Sophie was a bit nervous on her first visit, hoping that the family wouldn't put too much pressure on her.

After returning home, Sophie became even more frantic. The moment she entered her house, she began feverishly collecting items that carried the trace of a motherly presence. Did she not know that Pierre's mother was her own mother? No, she knew. She had been secretly observing her mother all along. However, what she couldn't bear the most was standing right in front of her mother without being recognized.

Sophie had countless fantasies about the scene and reaction when her mother saw her—whether it would be surprise, joy, or excitement. However, what she hadn't anticipated was the disregard, the disregard to treat her son as a normal girlfriend, which was worse than killing Sophie.

In these ten years, she had spent the entire time yearning for her mother, while her mother had been immersed in happiness, having long forgotten her and her father.

That year, Sophie was 16 years old, and her hatred for this family had reached its peak. She no longer harbored any illusions about maternal love.

Since then, Sophie and Pierre enjoyed a sweet relationship, but Sophie never visited Pierre's home again. It was also from that time onward that Pierre's family became even more unfortunate. They constantly moved around, Pierre and his sister changed schools frequently, as if there were invisible hands manipulating them, making it difficult for them to settle in one place for more than a year.
