055 Drastic measure

Duncan was walking down Main Street toward Marykah's and thinking about what he learned about the geography of this place.

"Redfield should be south of here since it has the sea so close. That means the road that leads to it is at the entrance opposite the barracks," he said to himself as he neared Marykah's shop.

As he was about to open the door he heard a clamor inside.

Duncan paused and opened the door slowly. On the opposite side of the entrance by a wall, he could see a 2-meter-tall figure pinning Marykah with one hand on the wall by her neck. Duncan's adrenal gland shot into overdrive and flooded Duncan's bloodstream with adrenaline.

"Don't look at me that way! You chose the hard way," he said with a chuckle as he banged her head into the wall. With one hand choking her and the other tearing at her clothes he paid little attention to his surroundings.

Duncan wanted to bleep him out of existence, however, he would hurt Marykah as well as he was holding onto her.

He used what little stealth knowledge he knew and pulled out a dagger from his inventory.

Marykah's eyes were bloodshot and she was crying as Duncan lunged at her assailant and plunged the dagger into his kidney area.

The man screamed letting go of Marykah and she dropped to the floor. He swiped behind himself with his long arms and Duncan ducked pulling out his dagger as he did. This elicited another scream.

"Arrrgh. You are dead!" the man yelled as he brought a sword into his hand from his inventory. Duncan moved back and threw his dagger at him and as the man dodged Duncan's dagger as Duncan got the speed enchanted sword in his hand.

"Who are you?" the man yelled as he lunged forward.

Duncan dodged the sword to the left side and started cursing.

The man staggered. The wound on his back obviously bothered him tremendously however he didn't let go of his desire to kill Duncan.

Turning around he looked at Duncan who was mumbling and gritting his teeth.

"It doesn't matter who you are. You will be dead soon," he said as he swiped his sword toward Duncan's flank.

Duncan was ready for him though and stopped his sword cold with a block and ran electricity through it which passed onto the man.

The man's eyes bulged as he was being fried alive.

"Mother-BLEEP-ing mother-BLEEP-er!" Duncan screamed as he pulled his sword away, lowering it from the man's sword who staggered to the floor beside him before Duncan's sword made a circle and found his target on the man's neck.

The sound of something snapping came before a gush of liquid and a head bouncing on the floor was heard.

Duncan clutched onto his sword with both hands as his knuckles became white.

He was looking at the dead man as he heard deep breaths from behind him.

"Duncan, you killed him!" Marykah suddenly said.

As Duncan looked at her he felt nothing. He thought he would feel guilt for killing a sapient person however he felt nothing.

"Am I a psychopath?" he thought as Marykah came closer.

"Thank you," she said as she put her hand on his two hands, still clutching onto the sword.

"Who is he?" Duncan asked.

"He is one of the Mayor's men, Rathan. I left the door unlocked for you and he came to order some clothes for the Mayor," Marykah explained.

"Rathan? I heard of him from Bolgar," Duncan replied.

"He is the Mayor's errand boy," Marykah said before shaking her head and correcting herself, "Was. We should clean this up."

Duncan nodded and stored the whole body in his inventory. After that, he stored the head and all the inventory items that came flying out like a fountain after the kill.

"I can't believe he did that," Marykah said as she brought a mop and bucket.

"I can't believe I did that," Duncan thought as he nodded at her.

After the cleanup Marykah suggested measuring Duncan for his clothes and Duncan gave her a weirded-out look.

"We should go to Wazsh's," Duncan said and made for the door. Marykah looked at him leaving and quickly followed.

The telltale stain and the scent of rust were the only things left from the crime scene.

"I am not looking forward to this talk," Duncan thought as he considered Wazsh's reaction after he almost chewed his head off for asking him to kill the Mayor.

He turned back and saw Marykah holding her torn clothes to her chest as she walked behind him.

"We can stop by Clara's. Maybe she can fix it," Duncan stated.

"There's no need. I am a tailor and a seamstress or did you forget why you came to my place? I just need a bit of time," she replied.

"Ah right," Duncan replied, embarrassed by his suggestion.

They soon came to the bar and as they walked in vehemently became the main attraction of the day.

"Good evening," Wazsh said as Bolgar and Elland drowned on their drinks spitting them back into their glasses.

"Evening. We need to talk," Duncan said and gestured towards the kitchen.

"Evening Marykah," Elland said as he got his wits together. "What brings you here?"

"Evening Elland, Bolgar, Wazsh," Marykah stated before she turned toward Duncan waiting on his response.

"So, you all know each other?" Duncan asked.

"Yes. Although it has been a while since I made buttons and clasps for her," Bolgar replied.

"Her shop is not far from mine. Of course, I know her," Elland replied and sipped his wine.

Wazsh nodded before replying, "I only knew about her from word of mouth since this is the first time she graced my establishment with her appearance."

"Wazsh… Kitchen?" Duncan said and gestured for Marykah to follow.

Wazsh frowned before saying, "If she is in on the secret you can spill it here. I trust these two numbnuts."

Bolgar shook his head as Elland replied, "Thank you for your trust, you nincompoop."

Duncan looked at them before shrugging and stating, "I killed Rathan."

Wazsh looked at him before replying, "That's great. Congratulations… Oh, Rathan the Mayor's errand boy. Why?"

Elland looked shocked while Bolgar gave him a smile and a thumbs up.

"He tried to rape Marykah as I happened to come by to get my measurements taken," Duncan said and shrugged.

"Marykah are you alright," Elland said with concern.

"Yeah. Duncan came at the right time so he didn't get past tearing at my clothes," Marykah replied and sat down on a chair.

Elland nodded before replying, "We can use some of Ghoul's blood to make the body decompose fast."

"I didn't think you had it in you with all that talk about sentient beings and whatnot when I asked you to off the Mayor," Wazsh said shaking his head.

"This and that are two completely different things," Duncan replied looking at Wazsh in anger.

"So, you are saying if I get the Mayor to rape me, you will off her?" Wazsh replied.

Duncan gave Wazsh a universal sign to fuck off before getting a shock.

"Argh. They covered this too," Duncan said as his headache and shock passed.

"Don't joke about rape," Duncan warned as he stared at Wazsh.

Wazsh raised his hands defensively before replying, "I am just glad that you're alright. That prick certainly deserved what he got."

Elland walked to Duncan and held him with his arms by his shoulders before asking, "How are you taking this?"

"Surprisingly ok," Duncan replied as he shook his head.

He killed a person not long ago however he didn't feel an ounce of regret or guilt. Duncan even started thinking there might be something wrong with him.

In all the movies and television shows, he saw the main characters were always distraught by killing another human being while he was taking it as if he just finished dinner. Something completely normal. Nothing out of the ordinary.

"Maybe my mind just needs to process what happened," he said after Elland let him go.

"We should go and dispose of the body," Elland said like a mobster.

"I have the body with me," Duncan said shaking his head before continuing, "we do need to get the blood stains out from the floor."

"Mhm. A cleaning potion should do it," Elland murmured.

"Bring the body to my place later. We can dissolve it in the preparation chamber," Elland continued.

Duncan looked at Elland in a new light before asking, "Do you do things like this a lot?"

"Disposal of unusable organic matter is part of the job. Also, knowledge of stain removal from various materials comes in handy," Elland replied.

"I guess," Duncan said and also sat down suddenly feeling less tense since they had a plan on how to proceed.

"Let's have dinner and some drinks first. Braised Red-beak Eagle is on the menu," Wazsh said and Bolgar raised his cup in agreement.

"Why would you make my killing a person into a celebration?" Duncan said in frustration.

"Don't worry, we will celebrate if they manage to kill you too!" Wazsh said with a content expression on his face.

Duncan wanted to scream curses at Wazsh but he knew the follow-up. He would get zapped and Wazsh would look even happier.

"Shut up and bring the bird and beers!" he said with anger and frustration in his voice.
