Living in the city part one

Living in the city part one

It had been three months since we were summoned to the megacity Ylegate. The life here was very typically aristocratic. The city consisted of 52 Layers. The most other layer was the slum. In the slum, you could find anything illegal, dangerous and criminal. The majority of the people in the slum were extremely poor and had barely anything to survive on and those who had something to survive were dangerous criminals. This layer was still better than living outside the city, where monsters roamed. The 51st District was the place where we were housed. The 51st district was an entire other world compared to the 52 district. The 51st District could be compared to your normal city before the System came into power. There were shops, Affairs, Kiosks, normal workers and so on. Many people had simply resumed living like they did before the system came into power, but many had also chosen to continue their life as adventurers, but even so, many of these people changed their minds when they had stepped into their first dungeon, well at least those who survived did. Some people had even taken up the task to reach some of the inner districts in the city, by either earning themselves a noble rank, earning enough money or reaching the level required to enter.

People who lived in certain Districts had either a certain amount of power or social standing or as it often as they had both. The districts had official and unofficial names, for an example, the 52st District was often called by the unofficial name "The Slum or The Shadow District, but its official name was "The Second Wall". The name had come from the fact that it was the Second wall against the enemies of the city in the case that the first wall was to be breached. There were also certain groupings of districts that people could move between without the need for permission, of course, a person from a higher district or a higher social status could move freely between the districts lower than them, but they still needed permission to enter the higher districts. The 51st to the 42nd district was called the "Commoners Districts", peoples levels here were often below 100. The strongest person in the "Commoners Districts" was the Knights captain Foucher the stone wall. The name came from the fact that he had a 90% elemental affinity with earth and used mostly defensive spells. He was known for being a man of great fairness which the commoners respected, but some people thought this was only a facade since he had been caught with having certain items which were out of his reach.

Every 9 layers had a smaller District solely for soldiers. The public reason for these was that they existed to protect the civilians in case the walls were to be breached, but everyone knew the real reason for these. They existed to protect the people living in the higher districts, from the people in the lower districts from even being able to see them. They kept the people in check and made it impossible for people to reach the inner district without sufficient social standard or power. The first guard District that was placed just outside the 52nd district had around 10 people over the level 200 and the rest of the soldiers were between the levels 70-120. There was also the "slum Knight" Edun whos level reached 240. The name came from the fact that he was born in the slum and that he was rarely seen outside the high walls next to the slum. People could not even think about getting past the 11th distinct that had guards and knights over the level 1000, but that was not the scariest part. The scariest part was the old general, the man who had spoken briefly to us before sending us all to the 51st district. His level surpassed 1700. It was unfathomable, what kind of human could possibly reach that level? The worst part was that he was known as the weakest of the 52 Generals and there were rumors that the strongest General had reached the level 3000 threshold. To make it into a perspective the average person in the "commoners district" had a level between 3-50 and some very well established people had a level of between 50-70. I, on the other hand, had a level of 4..... your average level 100 could probably kill me by just thinking about it. It made me feel hopeless but still made me feel so refreshed and energic. Finally, I had something to strive for and something to reach.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

The grouped districts were as followed; The Commoner's district was from the 51st to the 42nd district, The Merchants and Adventurer district, was from district 40 to district 31. The people who lived here were either Adventurers, Shop owners or merchants. There were also some smaller or lower nobles who lived here. Then came the "Sect district" which housed many various Sects and Groups. These groups were either religious or simply sects that possessed power. They had the districts from the 29th to the 20th district, then came the so-called "Noble district" which housed the most powerful and rich members of society. These people had both the power and authority to nearly do anything. They lived in more lavish houses or skyscrapers than what people could ever dream about. They possessed such amount of wealth that it became extremely easy for them to gain levels while nearly doing nothing. Expensive equipment, Potions, Bodyguards, Class scrolls, Skills and so on could all be bought. Sure some of the items that existed in this world could not even be bought by them, but they had such an advantage that it could not even be described with words. It was as if Bill Gates would have fought you in court for an obvious crime that you had committed. Not only would he be able to afford the best lawyers and bribe the court, but he would also be able to pay for anything that could help him no matter how expensive. The same could be said for the Nobles, but instead of having to go to court and bribe the Judge they were instead the Judge. The Noble district started in the 19th and stopped in the 9th district and while you came higher and higher up in the Noble district the wealth and power kept increasing. The last Group District was known as the "God District". The name came from the fact that only people who had an absurd amount of power or wealth could ever reach this place. The so-called "God District" had the best mage schools, Institutions, Libraries and so on. The first layer which was also known as the "Kings Mansion" had a massive mana crystal, it was dark blue in colour or at least that's what we were informed of. The mana crystal was used to create a massive mana shield around the entire city to protect the city from incoming damage.

I checked the time limit before the dungeons were going to start to open.

3 Months left of the Grace period.

I could finally choose my class, you had to wait for 3 months before being able to choose your class. It had something to do with people choosing the wrong class and choosing things which they did not understand. I walked over to the mages guild, the building was a smaller floating skyscraper. It was still massive, but compared to the building near it was still way smaller. As soon as I entered the building I could hear the voices of hundreds of people talking. The inside of the building was both technological and magical. The walls had an old dark green colour that contrasted with the elaborate golden decorations and exquisite chairs and so on. The roof was held up by Roman pillars that were painted black and had mana crystals inserted into the, everywhere I looked I saw an extream amount of power or wealth it was overwhelming. I made haste to get my class and continued with all the procedures to obtain my class. The good thing about the mages guild was that it existed everywhere, everywhere meaning in every district and selecting your class was done for free and so was changing it. After I had filled in all the paperwork I put my hand on a similar round globe that I had seen in the tutorial, but it felt much weaker in comparison. When I put my hand on top of it I was presented with a huge amount of options to choose from.
