Welcome to Loulan

Nowadays we hear the term "cheat" when it comes to unique powers.

Sometimes it's just a way to quickly say "I the main character am invincible" or will be in no time at all. Sometimes it's a unique gimmick that lets you have an edge over the competition.

It's pretty silly sometimes but even in a word devoid of fantasy some people have talents and skills that others do not, whether natural or through effort.

Regardless we envy that seemingly quick route to power, the exceptions are something to admire and we want to be like them badly but many of us do not.

Some people think that having such gifts would make everything far too easy.

This is what twenty one year old Jin Bang thought about the moment he was murdered by a truck driver that relentlessly chased him down through the streets of Tokyo and found himself in the classical "isekai" situation, the chance to live in another world and offered a power to take with him.

He found himself on what seems like the top of a mountain with clouds covering most of the surrounding view around him and sure enough the figure that would offer him this situation stood before him. The usual pre tense is that the death was a "mistake" of a god.

This "god" was a hulking muscular almost bronze skinned man covered in white robes with a wreath on his head. In fact he looked just like a Greek god.

Actually it looked suspiciously like THE Greek god you'd think of whenever they are mentioned. As he opened his mouth to speak sure enough it came out like booming thunder, but the kind just far away enough it doesn't alarm you.

"Greetings... Kan Kuni...? What an odd name. I'm sorry for the mistake of killing you but do not worry I have some compensation for you ready that I believe will let satisfy your current distress-"

Bang lifted his right hand high as if to ask a question in a classroom and the god hesitated, a look of confusion as well as slight distress painted itself on his face.

"Uh. Yes? I'm sure you have many questions but just give me a moment to explain everything first in case what you have on your mind is going to be covered anyway..."

Bang did not lower his arm and the god grimace and sighed. "Okay. What is it?"

"I think you've made more than one mistake. My name is Jin Bang. Not Kan Kuni. I'm Chinese so you don't read it the way you do, sir. With all due respect, I was just visiting when that truck just wouldn't stop chasing me no matter where I went."

His voice was rather smooth and deep for his age and as these words fell upon the gods ears, said god fell to the ground and groaned in frustration.

"Ah fuck not again! I can't believe this! What the hell am I supposed to do? My wife is going to have my ass for this... again! What did I ever do to deserve this?"

Bang stared at the huge man who seemed just... fed up with everything and was ranting and raving about how unfair the situation was... for him and not the person he seemed to have accidentally murdered.

Actually it sounded like this wasn't even the first time this happened but if Bang was disturbed by this he tried his best not to show it but after about three minutes of complaining about his wife and sister, which Bang deciphered as being one in the same person he had to interject.

"So what's going to happen to me?"

The god got up and rubbed the temples of his head with his right thumb and index finger and then waved his left hand and a comically large upwards roulette wheel appeared and began to spin at an incredible speed becoming a blur of colours and words.

"You'll get some random power from the wheel and then be sent on your way to another world.

I mean usually we kind of have people picked out for certain things but this wheel is the bargain bin of blessings, it's made up from all the other times we messed up or filled with powers of people who actually finish their adventure or die horribly. So just pray that it all works out."

Jin got down on his knees and placed his head against the earth and slammed his hands down, then raised his body and repeated the motions towards the god before him.

"Not to me! That doesn't work even if I wanted it to!"

Bang immediately stopped, dusted his clothes off of any dust and gravel and turned to the wheel with an outstretched hand. "Hey if this is all the same can I just stop it myself?"

"Huh? Oh sure. Yeah. Knock yourself out I guess."

Bang then punched the wheel with his full force of his right hand with no real concentration and dragged the game of chance to crawl until it stopped on a ruby red slice that glowed at the arrow ceased all movement.

...Nothing was happening from Bang's perspective and he just looked at the god waiting for an answer who somehow in the brief moment of not giving him any direct observation had opened a bottle of wine and was chugging it, already half finished with depressive zest and only once it was truly empty of every drop did the god answer.

"You got mutual destruction. It's like that move in that kids game. What was it again? Oh right it's like Destiny Bond. You die and the target you placed it on dies at the same time. Just select a target and will it to activate, it only can be used on one person at a time." There wasn't a hint of care in the man's voice, he seemed to just be getting more fed up with the situation with each passing second. There was a moment of silence between the two.

"So how am I supposed to make it useful?" Bang showed the slightest hint of concern through a lightly shaking voice when confronted with this reveal that broke his previous calm demeanour.

"I don't know figure it out yourself kid. Now time for you to go."

The god appeared instantaneously right in front of Bang and pulled back his left index finger to rest on the side of the corresponding thumb.

"Wait-! I have a few more-!" The god flicked his finger straight into the forehead of Bang and sent him flying off the mountain with explosive force that sent him hurtling down to the world below and soon the world turned to blackness for the young man.

The slave trader had a good feeling about this one.

His intuition hadn't failed him often and he knew that to play the game you needed to take risks.

This is what ran through the head of Evander who had decided to grab the sleeping young man and throw him into the back of one of the wagons pulling his cargo.

The boy had messy reddish hair that was cut well at the back leading to the back of his neck and through a check with his finger pushing up an eyelid revealed a dark blue coloured iris that had a clear river like charm even though he was unconscious.

On top of this gem of appearance he wore shiny orange and gold coloured clothing that had long sleeves and where buttons would stand were what almost looked like the teeth of a beast.

His body showed clear training meaning he could be valuable as a fighter.

Regardless of how things flowed from here and what he could use the boy for Evander was sure he'd turn a profit one way or another.

Throughout his life Jin Bang had often been complimented and belittled for his unique appearance. His parents were both typical looking Chinese people through and through but he was born this way and his father had him tested just to make sure but they were blood without a doubt.

In fact it seemed unlikely he would be born this way without specifically having his father and mother being who they were, a check revealed both had ancestors in a place known as Loulan and these recessive traits held in both parents emerged in their son.

Still it was as much as a blessing as a curse for him, no matter where he went and travelled in the world it'd be the first thing to come up practically every single time.

You'd think it'd be something he'd had gotten used to by now but with every new meeting the same questions and words would arrive without fail again and again.

"Where are you from?" These were the words he hated to hear the most.

"So where are you from?" A smiling young woman in literal rags that accentuated a large chest was the first thing for his eyes to see in this world. She had long, shiny and beautiful blonde hair with a set of bright emerald eyes and pretty peach coloured lips to go along well with it.

The maintenance of her body was in total contrast of the horrible clothing she wore. She looked just a bit younger than Bang himself. The words were in an unfamiliar language and yet he understood it perfectly.

Bang did not even bother to groan or show his discomfort. He had at least outwardly known to never let it show on his face, first impressions are very important after all so he launched himself off from the prone position he laid on the floor to an upright sitting position to face the woman who for some reason chose to stand despite the movement of the wagon.

"It's a country that doesn't exist anymore I'm afraid. I was so small when it was destroyed that I don't even remember it's name. Well it was just a small place anyway. My name is Jin Bang. Bang is all good and fine by me, how about you?"

With the corner of his eyes Bang looked around to be aware of his predicament. A diverse bunch of men, women and children wearing handcuff chains and wearing some level of weight on their ankles were lined up in this large wagon and many just like it were in tow behind this one. However neither he nor the woman he was conversing with had these chains or weights to hold them down.

The woman seemed to have perfect balance as she tilted down slightly to make direct eye contact with Bang. "My name is Fiera, it's nice to meet you Bang! So then if that's the case where were you born and raised?" She ignored the tragic nature of the lie he told and replied with earnest beaming curiosity.

"Well I was always a traveller after that. My parents died and their last wishes were for me to see all the world has to offer... that being said I did not expect to take a nap and end up in the back of a slave caravan. Please tell me I have not met with an unfortunate fate."

Fiera turned around immediately as he finished his introduction and snatched up a set of chains and before Bang could even process what happened had his hands fall to his knees as the weight was forced upon him. "W-what...?"

She paid him no mind and she spoke in a loud voice to the single wagon ahead.

"He has no family so I tagged him just like you said Master! He's well spoken I'm sure he'll sell well!" Bang inwardly cursed at himself for going for his go to excuse and not trying to make himself seem more important. In an unfamiliar land he should never say he has no connections. Having none on Earth was bad too but in the past which would resemble the model for these worlds it was deadly.

Despite being the perpetrator of this misfortune the woman known as Fiera continued smiling as she seamlessly acted as if nothing happened with her next words.

"So what are your talents Bang? Are you a fighter? Are you able to read and write? How's your endurance? Are you physically strong? Are you able to do magic? Perhaps you are a musician or a dancer a lot of travellers seem so sexy and mysterious when they can capture the heart of a room?

A genius artist would be nice to have too you know, it's been a while since we had one of those."

All these questions bombarded with enthusiasm as if she had done nothing wrong.

Bangs eyes narrowed and sharpened as he opened his mouth. "I can do this."

Fiera blinked a few time with her long sharp lashes and redirected her eyes to slightly shift to the right as if she was looking at something only she could see with bewilderment.

"If I die you die. So if I bite my tongue now it'll be bad for both of us. So how about you just let me off this ride and I won't need to take any drastic actions. I'd rather perish taking you with me than live as a disgraced slave. Now let me free of these chains-"

Fiera smiled at Bang's threat with beaming, glistening and marvellous pearly white teeth and Bang felt fear grasp his heart. "Wonderful! You really were special, I'm happy our hunch worked out to be true! A fighter you are then. You'll be near unbeatable in the death match arena!"

It took him a moment to recover from her unchanging demeanour but with clear desperation breaking through his voice, "did you not just hear what I said you crazy girl!? I'll kill myself to take you out and be free in death than live in shackles! So let me go now!"

Fiera's face did not change a single bit. "You won't." However pure wall like confidence came out of her voice unlike the usual cheery disposition. "You have the eyes of someone who wants to be loved. Those type of people don't want to die. So sit tight and be a good boy."

She left him speechless as she walked off forward and jumped from the wagon high into the air and in the next second landed on the back of the carriage in front without breaking a scent.

Bangs hands balled into fists as he finally let himself scowl and sigh now that the situational was likely irreversible through words. The other slaves seemed to keep to themselves as he cursed and sighed. "Well I guess no one will want to kill me. That's nice."

He forced himself to stand despite the weight of the chains pulling him down and looked forward to look to what was ahead and he stopped breathing.

Towering as high as the clouds were sparkling silver western styled walls and towers that formed a fortress that shimmered with a mystical light. He wasn't sure if it was just a trick of the light but he could swear the fixtures were moving, like a living beast of metal that leaped out from a dream.

Orange runes that looked just like musical notes then glowed across the appendages of the city began to sing out the music of erhus and with an a sudden spike in the tune water erupted out of the centre of the city like geysers!

The surging blasts of water then did not fall but formed and twisted into several massive bubbles before exploding like fireworks!

Voices began to yell out from the front of the train of caravans as they approached the enormous gates constructed of dark onyx coloured metal, they stood over those awaiting entry like a giant of shadow guarding the treasures in the lair behind him.

A singular booming muscular voice echoed throughout the entire line of wagons.

"Welcome slaves to the city of Loulan!"

Bang coughed. He chuckled and then just laughed as he saw the black gates open and the light poured in for him to see a parade of men and women dancing, cheering and celebrating dressed in a variety of classical clothing,

Chinese, Arabian, Tribal European and Roman among many others... some with dark hair and some with red... and crystal clear blue eyes.

"Am I... home?"

Bang whispered from his lips in a volume no one could hear.

He looked down to notice his hands were still in fists, gripping tight with hope and despair.

"I'm a fighter, right Fiera!?" His voice shook with ambition.

"Of course!" She looked at Bang from the wagon ahead with her energy actually higher than before and it began to rub off on him, swirling with the sense of caution trying to pull him down.

"Can I earn my freedom?" In the civilization of Rome slaves had the chance to buy their lives back if they succeeded. Not every culture who bound men by force and contracts shared that sentiment. So he began to pray for the chance that this situation wasn't as bleak as the gates.

"Yes! Win! Every victory will take you closer to freedom. Take it from the lives you beat down!

I can't wait to watch you out there!"

The air suddenly turned sweet like a wild berry scent as Bang and the slaves entered the city.

"If it's fighting... I can do that. Nothing new. Okay. Let's do this."
