Patricia Beverly. Patricia Beverly! Trevors' inner voice was screaming.
He never understood her. Why was she so against his attempts at gaining magic?
You would think with her fascination with magic and being the top expert on the subject, she would want to have magic even more than him. But no, Patricia is a protector of the process.
Rules were meant to be broken, is how Trevor saw it. In fact, in regards to the rules of magic, his entire family shared the same sentiment. The Banks have been going against the laws of Merlin since their conception.
As he began to think of the origins of the Banks family struggle with magic, Trevor entered his study where he had displayed the history of the family. Documents, books, heirlooms, all of which should be a part of Beverly's precious books of magic.
No his family had been kept out of books. They were on a different side of history than the writers.
One day though, one day, it what all be known and he would be the writer. History would say Trevor Banks gave magic to the whole world after generations of Merlin lovers like Patricia Beverly had oppressed them all from it except for a select few. Thinking of what a proud achievement that moment would be for him and all his family, he gazed at a portrait of the person who started this great tenuous crusade.
Cordelia Banks, one of the first apprentices to the greatly acknowledged wizard. The portrait was said to have been painted in Merlin's laboratory as he wanted his first four apprentices to be showcased and celebrated as he believed they would be the future of magic. Like Merlin, the knowledge of the other three got construed through time, but Cordelia got forgotten altogether.
The portrait and her journal, which were also in Trevor's possession, were the only remaining evidence she lived.
Looking at the fierce yet elegant-looking young woman, he wondered what she would think of Lilly James. Only sixteen years old, and apparently, she has magic the likes no one has seen in centuries or perhaps since Merlin himself. He knew the very thought sickened him to his core, and he was never promised magic like his ancestor.
Rescued off the streets, whisked away by the great magician who told her he saw potential for wondrous things in her eyes and promised a world of magical adventures only to be told in the end it wasn't possible.
How could she believe that after learning nothing was impossible? After seeing three others who hadn't tried nearly as hard as her achieve it?
Cordelia was the very reason Merlin began suspecting only certain individuals could wield magic which led to creating The Calling retrial. Once she was disowned and thrown back on the streets from which she came, the once aspiring wizard apprentice made it her life's mission to access magic. Since then, it had been the long-time shared goal of the Banks dynasty, but no one had come as close as Trevor.

He had climbed the chain of command in S.P.I. for several years, gaining endless amounts of knowledge on magic and forming connections to help him in his genuine pursuit. The latter in which would benefit him now.
He grabbed his phone from his pocket then forwarded a message to a group chat between work colleagues that said G.U.T.S. Immediate responses from each respondent commenced with texts such as "Yes sir" and "Awaiting orders."
Trevor walked to the bookshelf with a big grin covering his face and retrieved an old leathery pocket-sized book. Engraved on the cover in old English font was Cordelia. Opening up a marked page that looked more worn than any, he looked to a highlighted passage. The Banks had made the particular quote a mantra of sorts, so Trevor knew it well, but initiating G.U.T.S, he felt it appropriate to reread it.
"As the years go by with no outstanding progress towards my conquest of capturing magic, I must admit a feeling of defeat and failure. However, I refuse to accept those feelings and instead will press on as I have seen the impossible and know it is possible. Though I am globally unrecognized in my venture, I will continue to seek the truths of this world that no one else believes!"
The sentiments of his ancestor rang more true now than they had in her time as magic was widely considered as fantasy. Soon, it would just be viewed as an everyday occurrence if Trevor and his organization of G.U.T.S. had anything to do with it.
Yes, the Globally Unrecognized Truth Seekers were about to change the world, and Patricia Beverly could do nothing to stop it.No one could not, even Ms. Magic herself Lilly James. From what he heard, she couldn't do simple spells yet, so if they acted quickly, his plan would be easy. His colleagues just needed to stay hidden and diligent within S.P.I., and everything would work out flawlessly.
They should go unnoticed as The Head Director was far too invested in her new protege star pupil to notice moles. They just needed to retrieve his machine before Beverly destroyed it get it back to him, and abduct the teen girl without anyone around.
The powerful magic coursing through her veins would soon be where it rightfully should be in the blood of a Banks. "Cordelia, if only you could be here to see your vision finally come true."
If only indeed, Trevor thought as he looked back to the remarkably beautiful and inspiring portrait of the unspoken matriarch of the Banks's. Trevor went to his desk as he sat in his chair taking out his phone again. He began responding to the many texts from the truth seekers with a menacing yet proud smile forming from his lips.
