Seattle 2007
Maria lay on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Bored and trying to find a way to make her self busy. For almost a week, her routine had been work and home, and also for a week already since her last hunt with Carlo. At the moment, no one among those leeches of Count Daimon had dared to enter Seattle making her stuck on her bedroom waiting for her drowses to get into her.
Maria sighed. It has been 5 years that she and her cousin Carlo had been doing this when they discovered the furry counterparts along with the responsibility and the feud that goes along with it.
Her Grandfather, the chief of their pack as well as their mentor, told them everything after they first transformed. Their pack is on a constant war against the natural enemies of the Werewolves. The Vampires, the monsters from the lineage of Dracula. They are being led by only son of Dracula, Daimon the Cruel, a vampire who is much more devious and monstrous than his late father who was defeated centuries ago by her forefather, the first Werewolf, Vain the Untamed.
At first, she was horrified when she discovered that she is one of those monstrous creatures that are only seen on movies and television, but when she experienced her first hunt and battle against vampires, she actually started to enjoy it, get addicted to it, making fighting and battling like a physiologic needs for her. But now, she is stuck here, with nothing to do than to count the number of times that the ceiling fan's blades will complete a rotation.
"I'm going mad!" she cried, covering her face with the pillow.
Tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit! An awful sound interceded.
Maria sat up and looked around her room on to where the awful sound is coming from. She realized that it was coming from her PDA placed at her bedside table. She recalled that Carlo had installed a scanning device in the city in case some vamps decided to pass by and take a snack. He said that her PDA will alarm in case it detects something.
She took her PDA and opened the scanner's map. There were three blue spots moving towards the city from the Elliot Bay.
Maria hurriedly hopped out of her bed and change from her pajamas. Werewolves had claimed responsibilities to protect humans from vampires ever since their forefather fell in love with a human, their foremother, that lead to the spread of their bloodline up to the present where they live along with the humans which is the other half of them.
She speed dialed her cellphone and called Carlo. It didn't take long for him to answer, "Carl, there's a detection."
"I know," he said, "I'm on my way."
"How long would it take for them to enter the city?" she asked.
"They're swimming, so I guess more or less 15 minutes," he estimated.
She nodded, "OK, I'll be right there."
"By the way, there possible landing site could be near Ferry Terminal," he added. "So I will be expecting you there."
"Got it," she said before she hanged up her phone.
Maria took her katana, they still used weapons, Transformations are always considered as last options when fighting vamps especially if it is not Full Moon, unlike what humans thought about Full Moon and Werewolves, the Full Moon is not the one that make them crazed, on the contrary, it's actually the one that keeps them in control when they are on their furry forms. Without it, when they are in their Werewolf Form, they are like ticking bombs that might explode into a great frenzy the longer that they stay on that form.
Maria hopped out through her window, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, carrying the thought on her head that its time for a HUNT.
She saw Carlo waiting at a building rooftop near the terminal, wearing jeans but shirtless.
"Not again," she gritted her teeth.
Carlo is the most stubborn member of their pack, their Grandpa and the Elders had always remind them to not abuse the Transformation because of the dangerous drawback especially to them that compared to the rest are still considered as pups that haven't fully mastered their other beastly form.
When she set down beside him, he immediately asked, "What took you so long?" Carlo asked impatiently.
Maria frowned, it might have took her longer to reach here even though her house was nearer to the destination compared to him, but at least he is still not late. "And why aren't you carrying any weapon?" she countered. "You know the risk."
"I can handle myself."
"Yeah, right," she snorted. "By the way," she brought the topic back to their mission, "how much time?"
Carlo took his PDA from his pocket and opened the scanner's map, "3 minutes," he answered.

Maria locked her eyes profoundly at the bay. The surroundings were extremely quite. There is no sign of any unnecessary movement on the water. But the scanner was indicating that they are getting nearer to the shore.
"2 minutes," Carlo updated, still no sign of them. "60 seconds."
They started to hear fizzy sounds on the bay. Not a moment later, three vampires ascended out of the water, two males and a female.
Just like the rest of their kinds, they are all pale in complexion. Their skins are made out of Ice Granites. Ice-granite is a substance that composed a vampire's skin. It is harder than any metal but it is completely sensitive to UV rays. That's why Vampires' skins are melting when it is exposed to the sun.
Carlo's expression turns wary, "Here they come," he whispered.
The three vamps were scanning the area. Probably looking for a prey or maybe having safety precautions, knowing that there could be enemies around, which at the moment, it is them.
"Here's the plan," Maria said. "I'll take two, you take one."
"No, I'll take two and you will take one," Carlo disagreed.
"No, I'm going to take two. You know that I'm better than you in fighting."
"But I'm going to transform."
He has a point, "Fine," she halfheartedly agreed. Maria quietly pulled her katana. As he fighting instincts awakened, her pupils narrowed and her fangs and claws were exposed.
Carlo rolled his neck, stretching his muscles for his transformation. "You'll attack first," he commanded under his breath, "distract them while I transform."
Maria nodded.
"Make sure you'll separate the one from the other two," he added, "I'll take care of the rest. Just focus on your target."
"Fine, fine," she said, annoyed on how her cousin claims control on the situation.
"On my signal." Carlo observed the three vamps again, waiting for them to loose their guard and attack when they least expects it. When he finds an opening, "Now!" he ignited the signal to attack.
His cousin Maria rushed down like a meteorite. She hammered her katana in front of them. The three vampires flinched and leaped away from each other. When the three of them separated, Maria dashed towards the one nearest to her. She slashed her sword to the vampire's his neck, but he blocked it with his claws. Still, Maria pushed him further and further from the other two.
Carlo feels the energy of the world as it awakens his Wolf Spirit. His blood burns as his body starts shifting. His body mass doubled from his original human size as his skin turned white and gray. Thick furs started to grow all over his body as his upper extremities had turned from being hands to paws along with his nails turning into huge claws. His eyes narrowed as his head swells from being a face of a man to a head of wolf to complete his transformation.
The male vamps rushed towards Maria to help the one that she attacked. But before they get even an inch closer to them, he landed in front of them, clutching both their necks and tossed them away.
Half-stunned - half-furious, the two vamps shifted to attacking crouches. Cairo stalked to them like a predator longing for his prey. The vamps couldn't done anything rather than step back away from him while Maria is still attacking simultaneously her assigned adversary.
The two remaining vampires had probably thought that they have number advantage, so they simultaneously attack him. But unknown to them, Carlo's speed and reflexes are beyond the usual even to his kind.
He dodged the attack of the one that first reach him, and second vampire throw the next but before it could land it to him, Carlo's attack reached him first, stabbing him to his heart using his huge claws, dispersing him into white ashes. But before Carlo knows it, the first vampire that he dodged had already constricted himself around his body, clutching his arms with his legs while his arms are around his neck.
Carlo can't get away, the other vampire is much stronger than he expected.
"You're gonna die, dog!" The vampire exclaimed as he about to twist his neck.
Still, Carlo struggled to get away despite the futile resistance, and when he thought that he is about to die when the vampire started to twist his neck, he dispersed into white ashes above him.
Freed from his deadly grips, he fell down to his knees and coughed for air, and when he regain composure, he looked back and saw Black Werewolf standing behind him, it was Maria on her Werewolf Form.
"I thought you said that you can handle yourself."
"Shut up."
Maria chuckled.
