A continent left mostly uncharted by the hands of cartographers and mostly unpolluted by it's pioneers. Campaigns and holy conquests of eras past have gone leaving only one answer: There is much to be gained inland... and even more to be lost. A lesson well learned as societies had quieted to accept their place and settle on the coasts of the largely unexplored landmass. This was the unconquerable continent, Atros.
Hope in exploration of a world beyond the continent had been left scattered and sunk with the remains of the many failed convoys at the bottom of the sea long ago. Untraversable storms, unpredictable whirlpools, and frequent sea beast attacks were mostly to blame for these disastrous results along with other unfortunate events. Centuries pass and the dreams of the common man to step beyond this isolated landmass are lost with the turning tides.
Cut off from the outside world with all sorts of feral creatures left free to roam the wide expanse of the inner lands, the major powers were left disquieted. Not all was misfortunate as the continent continued to maintain a healthy balance.
Life was truly peaceful between man and beast. This balance between the two was maintained by a deeper tranquility within each side. The beasts rarely rampaged or stepped beyond well established human frontier settlements. On the other hand political balance had been reached long ago by the many superpowers scattered across the coasts of Atros. All this changed however with the beginning of The Gray Age.

The year 1106 of Mentazian Calendar was the year that is most commonly accepted as the dawn of The Gray Age by Atrosan scholars. Unidentified armadas began to appear and attack many of the western coastal nations in the cover of night in the months wrapping 1105. The responsibility of these attacks was a source of tension all over the continents as talks of a western coalition turned into a grim reality. As major conflict broke out halfway through 1106, 11 of the 54 coastal powers would fall before 1107. After this many nations were left in complete anarchy.
Within 10 years of The Gray Age the whole political landscape of Atros had seen a major overhaul with only 8 factions governing the continent. The strife of these 8 powers budding would see millions killed and many more displaced by the conflict.
The conflict of man had also begun to spill into the world of beast as constant waves of beasts would begin to push beyond the well established boundaries. Only few would come to notice that these ages were a crossroads for humanity; not just within Atros but farther beyond into the lands that had begun to place their pieces and play their games.
