Chp 8, Breakfast, Calm before the storm pt. I

After several minutes of Purify the smell of piss was gone from him and the bed.

Congratulations! You mana regeneration has surpassed 100!...

Calculating rewards...

Looking at how Bobby cowered in the corner away from him he slowly approached and gave him a hug.

All Dante could do for him was apologize and reassure him that things were going to be ok. He was a little heavier. His form seeming to have filled out a bit more over the span of the night.

Was this all that happened to Bobby? He looked less malnourished, and weighted maybe 10 pounds more, but that was about it that he saw. Maybe he had gotten a little faster, stronger, that remained to be seen.

Gently he set Bobby back on the ground. Pulling out the rusty dagger from his inventory and showing it to Bobby he began casting [Mend] on it. Three castings later the dagger shined like it was brand new. Handing it to Bobby he held it close to his chest before replacing it in its sheath.

You are awarded, Small mana potion. A small vial of grape flavored mana potion, ingest to recover 10 mp/s for 100 seconds...

Item added to inventory...

Hey, he liked grape. He wondered if it knew that and if that was why the potion was grape flavored.

His thoughts were interrupted as there was a knock at the door.

Motioning for Bobby to stay put he walked over to the door and opened it. There he saw a guardsmen and what looked like one of the Inn's staff.

"We received a noise complaint, and report of someone pissing in one of the beds. May we come in to investigate?" Said the guard, Dante wasn't sure if he had meet this particular guard before, probably not.

"Yeah sure, he did wet the bed." Dante said pointing at Bobby before continuing, "But I cleaned it up already. You yell in surprise one time and someone has to be a..." Dante said, grumbling the last part. After a minute or two of inspecting the room and a bit of questioning the staff member placed his hand on the bed they had been sleeping in and cast a spell. "Refresh Bed."

To the surprise of both Dante and Bobby the bed glowed, more strongly towards the middle of the bed and on the middle of the sheets before the sheets reordered themselves into a perfectly made bed.

After that Dante and the time he thought that they should go get breakfast. The timer in the corner of his vision read...

13: 36: 24...

Dante made his way out of his room and down the large set of stairs to the lobby of the Crystal Foot Inn. There he saw there were few individuals present. Several simply appeared to have fallen asleep while drinking.

Dante made his way over to the dining area after ringing the bell. Someone walked through the swinging door leading to the kitchen in the back. The woman walking through the door was a tall, you might say lanky, blonde elf, with long pointed ears. Her complexion was tanned, as if she had spent many long days in the sun. Her eyes were emerald green, almost shining in the light. Her bust left much to be desired, but as she turned to answer a question from the chef Dante got a nice view of her ass. She was, in a word, beautiful. 'Now that's a great view.' Dante thought as he smiled.

Memory flickered in his mind, this had happened before. Well close enough anyway. He struggled to recall details but it was like walking through a thick fog. The memories were there but shrouded.

He caught Bobby peaking over the counter also starring but he didn't stop him.

The elf once more turned to answer his question. Her voice reminded him of Galadriel from lord of the rings.

"What can I do for...you?" she asked, voice falling off as she saw Bobby peaking over the counter at her.

Bobby muttered some words in goblin that caused his eyes to widen and he made a mental note that he needed to explain some rules of etiquette to Bobby before he got both of them in serious trouble.

Her eyes narrowed as he face took on a look of distain. "Is that your goblin?" she asked pointing at Bobby who quickly ducked behind the counter.

"Yes, his name is Bobby, I am his master and he cannot go against my orders. He has been told not to cause any trouble if he can help it. Right Bobby?" said Dante as he patted Bobby on the head reassuringly. Bobby on the other hand sat on the ground and crossed his arms clearly not pleased by this outcome but was unable to go against his master's orders.

"Very well then. I assume your here to order your free breakfast? That free meal does not extend to your goblin so you are aware." She said her face becoming one of annoyance.

"I am aware and I can pay for his meal, that's no problem." he said ordering some a stack of pancakes with the obvious syrup and butter, and a side of hash browns. For Bobby he asked him what he wanted Bobby looked and pointed at the elven woman. To which Dante stated simply, food Bobby what do you want to eat. Looking disappointed he crossed his arms and exclaimed, "Eggs!" in English. A word which he had been taught the night before.

Looking back to the elven woman he sheepishly said, "6 eggs scrambled in a large bowl with a side of 4 bacon strips please."

With amazing speed and dexterity the elven woman's hands blurred over the keys of the register before the total came out to 4 large silvers.

Pulling out the silvers he handed it to the cashier. "I apologize for Bobby's behavior this is a new arrangement and I haven't had much time to set many rules with him, Miss?" Spoke Dante holding out a hand for the woman to shake.

She looked between him and Bobby for a second before taking his hand and shaking it. "Khalifa..." She said simply, looking like she wanted to say more but didn't.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

Her job done, Khalifa took the receipt and walked back through the door into the back where he saw two guys working some grills.

Moving to a table booth Dante went over some ground rules with Bobby on how he could interact with people. Explaining to him that if he did something wrong it was both of them that would get in trouble.

Skill, Goblin Language Proficiency, has leveled! Lvl. 3...

Dante looked out upon the smooth stone streets and watched as even in the early morning hours when the sun was barely rising the streets were still busy. A strange thought crossed Dante's mind. He promptly spoke to the air, "Guide, If this is a pocket plane, what's with the sun?" Dante asked looking out the window and up to the sky.

"It is an effect created by the system. For you and the people of the earth it's one sun and a 24 hour day. For others, it's never night and there are multiple sun's going across the artificial sky. These places are tuned to be more acceptable to those who choose to be here." spoke his guide in his mind in its monotone voice. He would have to give it a name eventually, maybe try and tweak the voice at least.

The skill reminded him a lot of Great Sage from that time I was reincarnated as a slime. Although its capabilities seemed far more limited than the Great Sage skill.

Waiting for their food to arrive he decided to check his status.

Looking at his 26 free stat points he thought about where would be the best place to invest it. Obviously he needed to invest into Con. Looking over his stats, he ran the math but couldn't get all his stats up to a minimum of 40. But he could do most.

He spent points to increase his stats as such, 2 Str, 15 Con, 4 End, 1 Dex and Wis, and 3 Per.

Bringing his stat total up to 488, only 12 away from the next milestone.

Now his only stat below 40 was Charisma. Part of him wanted to put points into charisma or luck to better his chances with Khalifa, but either option was unlikely to bear any fruit and was thus a poor choice.

There is muffled yelling from the kitchen that he wasn't able to make out before the waitress came back through the doors holding a silver platter. It was Khalifa.

She speedily walked over to their table to deliver food. But she almost looked, resentful.

As she arrived at their table Bobby's eyes locked onto her, swapping between her and the platter of food. She looked about ready to toss the plates in front of them and walk away before a quick shout from the now open kitchen door dissuaded her of that notion.

After she set the plates down Dante spoke.

"Thank you." He said to her before offering a small gold for the inconvenience. For a moment she stared at the coin, eyes darting to him then Bobby the goblin. There was a blur as the coin was pulled from his fingers at lightning speed, suddenly appearing in her hand.

"Thank you for your patronage sir." She said a small genuine smile on her face and his heart fluttered. He blinked and felt a sudden rush of wind and as he opened his eyes he only caught her tail end re-entering the kitchen.

Bobby clumsily wielded his fork spearing his scrambled eggs, and shoveling bacon into his mouth. At least he was using the fork as he had taught him last night.

As he ate his breakfast he considered what skills he was lacking. In theory there were tons of skills that were super easy to get if you put in a little effort, like jumping.

Not that he precisely wanted to try gaining that skill at this moment, he didn't want to risk hitting the ceiling by jumping too high. He still didn't know the upper limits of his strength, or how high he would be able to jump even without the skill. He had been able to, barely, keep that alligator from death rolling him. However, that was when he had about 15 less points in strength.

Would it be a good idea to go back to the first floor and beat the optional bosses before or after he did the second floor? After was the safest bet, but fighting one of them before could yield something that helped him on the next floor. Even if he knew what he would be fighting, it didn't mean he knew what he would get for beating them.

Looking back over his status he noticed his 10 rp, and recalled he had one road that could complete.

Roads Available, RP: 10 Beginners Magic I, 1/25 Chronomancer I Road, 0/50 Goblin I Road, 0/25

He was surprised to find the road wasn't there however.

Road of the Downtrodden was flagged for removal and has since been removed...

"Why though?" he asked the air gaining no response from the system or his guide. He supposed he could just invest in one of the other roads since the one he wanted was gone for some fuck all reason.

He supposed that the most immediately useful road was Beginners magic I. But in the end he decided to hold onto the points rather than spent them right now.
