What the hell? I must've read too many novels for me to be having hallucinations about getting a system. Maybe I should go to bed earlier from now on. I pointedly ignored the blue screen, and as if verifying my thoughts it disappeared as I left my room and went to the bathroom to shower.

After a nice hot shower and a hearty breakfast, I went towards my part-time job. It was Saturday so I didn't have any classes. I was a ditch digger basically. I dug ditches for graves and got paid by the hour every day. It wasn't as bad as people make it out to be, physically intensive, but the paid was good and the hours didn't clash with my school schedule. Besides, there were plenty of puns to go around when one worked in that line of occupation.

I was sure that if there was a Hell, my coworkers and I were all going to hell for laughing at some of the terrible jokes we made.

"Yo, good morning Gary!" I greeted a middle-aged man in a black T-shirt and jeans. Although it was hot, everyone knew better than to wear any light colored shirt, least it stains. I didn't care much and had on grey sweatpants and a random band shirt I found before coming here.

Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there.

"Good morning, Andy! How's school been?" I liked Gary, he was a nice man who worked hard for his family. Plus he had some of the best jokes.

I went to put on my work gloves and grabbed a shovel.

"So, where are we going today?" We were paired together as partners since I first started here. He was something of a mentor and showed me the ropes. Not that it was really that complicated. I mean we were digging holes to bury people for God's sake, but he appreciated it anyway.

"Plot 34, they want one of those fancy tombs, ya know, the really big stone houses you see from the old days."

I let out a groan because I just knew it was going to be a pain in the ass to do that. After all, it meant we had to do the equivalent of 4-6 graves just for one rich asshole. I let out a sigh before following behind Gary to the spot.

"Welp, let's get started! " He said before digging like a machine. I shouldn't be surprised, but even after all these months I still couldn't help but be amazed. He was like a machine! His shovel dug through the ground as if it was soft snow, and chucked it away as if it weighed nothing.

"yeah, yeah, I got it"

We dug while talking about nothing and everything. School, family, movies. It made the time go by much quicker and by the end of the day we were both drenched in sweat.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Andy, have a good night" He gave me a wave before walking home. I was waiting for my boss to give me today's paid.

200$ Not bad for a day's work if I say so myself, which I did.

Suddenly he heard a ping. It was one he would soon grow to hate immensely.

Congratulations on Acquiring: 200$
