My eyes snap open in shock to a blaring alarm clock. My right hand swings reflexively, and smashes the snooze button. As I’m about to fall asleep once more a memory comes to the front of my mind.
It is a memory of me asking for a job from the I.T Company that I wanted a job from. I jump from my bed with all the adrenaline I could muster.
I run to the washroom picking up my clothes from the floor as I go. When I get to the bathroom I look in the mirror and notice I got some hairs on my chin. I grab my razor and shave it all off. Rubbing my jaw and chin I smile in satisfaction at the smoothness. I look into the mirror once more seeing my golden brown locks on the top of my head and the hazel eyes staring back into my own. Who am I kidding I got acne all over my face.
Enough with demeaning myself I hop in the shower and get ready for the interview in an hour. On my way out I realize I haven’t eaten anything yet so I put some bread into the toaster and make a peanut butter sandwich to go. I exit my front door and get in my Hummer H3.
On my way to the I.T Company I think in my head how much faster it would be if I get on the highway. I look at the city of New York behind me and think to myself “good bye my old life, off I go, to live a new life.”
I drive on to the highway and begin to cruise through the speeding cars around me with grace. The calm doesn’t last long though as many sirens start blaring down the highway in front of me.
I also could hear gun shots, from what I can tell a Sub-Machine Gun. You’re probably wondering how I know that well let’s just say that my mom and dad had some interesting jobs when I was still living with them. They taught me what guns are which and how to shoot. I never thought it would be useful one day though. I don’t like guns at all. My littles sisters were a little bunch of monkeys always jumping on my back and try to freak me out when we were little, so I’ve gotten used to being aware of my surroundings.
Anyways back to the present as the sirens get closer and closer my heart starts to pump faster and faster. Impatient and a little bit rebellious I drive around the semi-truck in front of me. In shock I notice a car with what looks like a bunch of thugs leaning out of the car windows shooting at the cop cars chasing them. “What the heck this isn’t a movie are these guys idiots there going to get caught why run and extend their sentence??” even though I thought this It wouldn't matter.
As soon as the thugs noticed my hummer was in the way of their car they lit my car up. In a panic I try to turn the car away from them, but instead I take a bullet to the chest while turning. As my car flips and skids across the highway I stare at my windshield mirror above the dash of my hummer. All I see is a young man in the prime of his youth having the life sucked out of his eyes. In silence I bleed to death hoping for someone to come and save me, but in the time that I have left no one comes. I die.
Or at least that’s what everyone else would think. Instead what actually happened was as I was dying I saw a blue screen in my vision asking me if I would like to live and there was 2 buttons, one saying yes and the other saying no. I chose yes.

My eyes open and my lungs gasp in air and more air, inhale and exhale. In a panic I raise my body and look at my surroundings. In utter confusion I notice that I woke up in a forest, but where? In utter disbelief tears start to come down my face like a downpour. “Mom, dad, Lizzy….. And…… Quin where….. Am I….?” in a quivering voice, my whisper travels through the wind for no one to hear.
After I’ve calm down and found the resolve to get home I get to my feet and start climbing a tree. As I climb the tree I notice that these trees are gigantic, the branches are the size of my entire body length wise. As I get halfway up the tree with sweat traveling down the side of my brow I see a little stream towards the sun, in other words west of my location.
While walking through the underbrush of the forest I think about my life. When I was with my family I was completely different from when I was at school or at work. When I was at school I was always known as the ice cold prince who no one could talk to, I bet they also thought I didn’t care about their so called insignificant lives. The truth is I just never new how to talk to them, I wasn’t confident in myself. I didn’t think they would like me. So whenever they would initiate a conversation to me I would always fumble around in my head looking for something to talk to them about, but by the time I found something to talk about they would turn around dejected that I didn’t talk back to them. In my head I would reach with my hand and tap there shoulder and have I nice conversation with them, but in reality I would look coldly at their back and then look back to the front of the classroom.
When I started my job as a professor’s assistant at a collage I mostly would just sit in my seat beside his desk and mark tests and quizzes. Or I ran little errands for the professor. I was not happy working what’s so ever so I try to get an interview at an I.T Company…..
“Wait! I’m….. I’m….. Dead….?”
In a looming silence I sit in the dirt and roots of the forest. I start to sob, mini waterfalls running down the side of my cheeks snot bubbling out of the tip of my nose. Finally my emotional outburst stops I look up to the trees that are standing tall and blocking the sun.
My back straightens and my eyes gain a piercing feeling of determination. “I’ll get back no matter what guys, even if I have to cross through the depths of hell to get back to you guys.” I stand up and continue to walk towards the river, as I am walking I hear a couple birds in the trees begin to sing. It reminds me of the bell like laugh of my childhood friend named Emma. I fell in love with that laugh and yet I never got to say that I loved her.
With a frown on my face I continue to head in the direction of the river. When I get close to the river, I hear a whistling sound. I turn my head around to face the sound and my eyes sharpen to a point because of an arrow heading right for my spine. I can’t have my spine injured no matter what. So in the last second before it hits I rotate my shoulders so my right shoulder takes the arrow instead of my spine. “Arghh!!!!” in extreme pain I reach back and snap the arrow, then I look towards where the arrow came from and I see a blond girl around my age if I had to guess her age it would be 16 or 17. I look towards her ears and I notice that her ears aren’t normal human ears but pointed like a mythological elf. She has a doll like face with the innocence of a child, but with that bow in her hand, which is the bow that shot me I doubt she is innocent whatsoever.
