May 20, 2065. Wednesday. 10:00 in the morning.
“Is it the morning news?” I asked as I yawn. My family was quiet. They were focused on the news. I wonder what’s up.
It shook me. A 2km meteor was seen hurling to Earth at great speed.
“Fatima, pack your things.” My father hurried me. He was panicking and distraught. It was a good thing he hurried me. 2 hours later at noon. Disaster struck. The 2km meteor hit the land 7km away from our house. The shockwave was strong enough to pull out small trees. I saw a fire hydrant slam to a wall strong enough that it collapsed.
After 10 years, the world adapted but never forgot about the disaster. Who would forget about it? It gave us the many horrors we have now. Giant mutated spiders with acidic webbing, giant human carcasses that move on their own because of an alien parasite, and especially the Instant Decay. With a fatality rate of 100%, it kills its victim within 3 hours of contracting it. It’s most abundant in Ground Zero and 10km of its surroundings.
The victims sometimes turning into the aforementioned walking horrors. There is a 20km wide square from Ground Zero that is off-limits as it is mostly filled with these horrors. The World Government trying its best to contain the horrors and protect the outside world.
My family was all victims of the Instant Decay. I watched them slowly perish as I wish for me to have the same fate. I waited for days and days until I was found by Dr. Eugene. For the next 10 years, I became one of his adopted children along with; Gabriel, Joaquin, Niko, Evan, and lastly Robin.
“Meet your new siblings.” Dr. Eugene said that to me after he brought me into his bunker. We all have different looks except we share one significant thing. We all have purple eyes.

For the next 12 years, they have been my family. My monstrous family.
Present Day
9:00 am. I just woke up and I can hear equipment being used from the training room. Niko is probably there training again. The carcass that Dad found all those years ago happened to be extremely diverse of Monster DNA. From land monster to air monster DNA. Along with our Monster DNA, we also trained in martial arts. We were taught capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A bit disappointing that it’s only situational.
Dad always told us to never tell the people outside the family about our blood. We were all counted as anomalies along with the Instant Decay event. It wasn’t a problem hiding our secret because we don’t go outside the bunker as much. That was up until now.
“I ask all of you to leave the bunker and live your life.” Dr. Eugene gathered all of us out of nowhere. What does he mean to leave the bunker?
“I know it is a surprise, but you all have individual lives. I will not let you all be confined in the bunker.” He continued. Robin was surprised. We all are. Who wouldn’t be? We all grew up here. We are all family. It was an awkward silence. We didn’t know what to do outside. It was like an alien trying to assimilate to human culture.
“Thank you. Thank you for raising us.” Niko bowed and thanked Dad. He quickly left for his room to pack his things that.
The others soon did the same. There I am, all alone with Dad. I was silent the whole time. I was speechless. 12 years of being family and now we just separate.
“Hey, Fatima. Keep your other sides hidden, okay? You’re the eldest. Take care of your siblings.” That was all Dad had to say.
Tears fell off my face. I can’t control it. This was goodbye to the life we all had outside society. It was the introduction to a whole different life; outside with the people. I turned around and walked slowly to my room. I found all kinds of stuff from the first days in the bunker. The ball of yarn that Gabriel and Joaquin fought over 6 years ago. The family picture we had annually. The first time Niko was able to lift weights. They were all documented and were in safekeeping by me. What a wacky life we all had.
After a few days, Joaquin left the bunker. Evan followed the next day then Niko then Robin then Gabriel then finally me. We all said our final goodbyes to each other and left the bunker. Joaquin was due west while Evan went east. Niko wanted to go to New Paris. Robin never told anyone where she wanted to go. Gabriel was off to Old Francisco. I didn’t plan where I would go, so I went to the city that doesn’t sleep; Future York. A busy city that is always active. It was due northwest from the bunker.
“This is it,” I mumbled to myself.
Time for a whole new life.
