Chapter 6.3: Joint Mission

Ziel's gaze fixated on the darkened skies, where a monstrous black dragon, oozing corruption, loomed in the distance. It conjured haunting nightmares from their memories and unleashed destruction upon the helpless continent.

This threat surpassed even that of the Weeping Dragon, but Eithan remained steadfast that together, Mercy and Ziel could overcome this task. Not that they could complain though, it was their decision to become Reapers, dedicated themselves to removing the chaotic influences of the Void and forging a stable path for Yerin and Lindon's ascension.

It would not matter if they overworked themselves a little.

Below them, the grand capital sparkled like a radiant jewel dropped into murky waters. Lights twinkle amidst the towering skyscrapers, casting a warm glow that contrasts with the surrounding darkness. Amidst the landscape, patches of nature emerge like islands, with parks and gardens adorned in shimmering lights. The city's rivers and lakes reflect the gleaming cityscape, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of light and shadow. However, the streets lay empty, as the city's inhabitants likely sought shelter, bracing themselves for the impending apocalypse.

Corrupted miasma had been swirling in the city's surroundings, corrupting defenseless plants and animals into grotesque abominations of existence.

Ziel and Mercy quickly extended their protective authority, shielding the continent from the dragon's menacing presence. Their authorities intertwine seamlessly, forging an impenetrable barrier, defending both the minds and bodies of all living beings.

"I hate big bad dragons," Ziel stated matter-of-factly, his mind briefly pierced with the Weeping Dragon's image and the horror entailed in his youth. But Ziel had moved on now; dragon or human, monsters were simply enemies to be defeated.

"Me too. But it's unfair that you and Yerin got to shoot one down while I, an archer, never had the chance," Mercy replied cheerfully, her voice devoid of any disappointment.

"Well, now you can. I've got you covered."

With firm determination, Mercy grasps her Dreadgod bow, aligning the Penance arrow reinforced by Eithan himself. Even now, it would demand all her power for a single shot.

As she poised herself, Mercy was momentarily taken aback by the echoes of anguish that resurfaced, the memory of ending her own mother's life. Initially, grief consumed her, but she quickly found solace in the ultimate result—the joy that came from her decisive action.

Placing unwavering trust in Ziel's protection, Mercy ignored the dragon's physical assault as the monster realized the impending danger. Harmonizing the authority of Joy with the arrow's absolute intent, she took aim at the dragon's existence, condemning it to death.

Mercy released the arrow, and the colossal figure dropped from the sky. Her strength expended as Ziel swiftly caught her.

Together, they descended toward the city below, seeking a brief rest before the imminent arrival of the next mission.
