The orphan cried.
Where was everyone? Where was he?
The orphan wept.
Am I going to die? I’d rather not, thank you.
As the rubble crushing him was swept away, the orphan laughed. He wasn’t going to die! It was a miracle! Thank god for seasonal flooding.

Finally, the orphan drowned. And as he drowned, he vented his final emotions.
“This honestly doesn’t feel pleasant, though this rationality is a bit weird. Why am I so lucid? Shouldn’t I be dying right now?”
And so, the orphan died.

And so, the orphan lived.
Incredibly perplexed, the orphan, being an educated figure, made a reasonable deduction. Having died, and having lived again, he acknowledged the facts. Coming to the only logical conclusion,
"Magic exists."
And so begins the orphan's quest to become, not just a regular, run-of-the-mill wizard, but a great wizard.
Though this world may be cruel, wonders await those who have the courage to seek them out. Or maybe death.
