Connor realised what he was missing in this weird world the most. It was his favourite thing to eat food and watch something on the computer at the same time. However, he now was stuck inside some random world, unable to logout. He could eat, sleep… repeat. After finishing his food, he opened the shop and browsed the Armour category for a good helmet that would conceal his hair and a nice looking pair of sunglasses that hid his eyes.
Rifleman Light Battle Helmet
Price: 1 gold
Weight: 1
Protection Efficiency: 1
Connor looked at the helmet he had found. It looked really basic. It was a tan coloured helmet with no special paintings or features from what he could see. In comparison to the helmet he saw when he first checked out the armour category, it was less durable and definitely less fancy. 1 gold was an enormous sum for a helmet that provided 1 unknown efficiency. Connor considered the amount of gold he had before deciding on skipping even the cheapest helmet. Luckily enough, while scrolling, he managed to find one thing that could serve the purpose.
Regular Military Boonie Hat
Price: 10 silver
Weight: 0.2
Protection Efficiency: 0
‘Looks… bad. But is the cheapest option…’ Connor commented. The boonie hat looked really ugly but it could definitely cover his hair. He looked around the menu for some more time but was unable to find anything else. It was pretty basic knowledge at this point. The more you pay, the better it looks and better it performs. Not that he cared about the protection efficiency at the moment.
With a sight, he purchased the hat.
Item purchase completed. Item has been sent to your inventory.
The notification showed up in front of him for a few seconds before disappearing. He checked his inventory and sure enough, the hat was there. He mentally clicked the hat on the inventory and it suddenly appeared on top of his head.
One down, one to go. He made sure that his already short hair was completely hidden inside the boonie hat. Next step was to get a pair of sunglasses to hide his eyes.
Basic Tactical Glasses
Price: 5 silver
Weight: 0.1
Protection Efficiency: 0
Finding the pair that looked pretty fine, he purchased it. It was a pair of tactical glasses, it really did not look special. Black sunglasses that you could see people wearing. A split second later, he saw the same notification that it had been sent to his inventory and he quickly equipped it.
‘Huh… I thought it would be darker.’ Connor thought as soon as he equipped the glasses. It was already evening and the room was lit by a small candle. Even with the glasses on, it did not look that much darker. ‘I guess this is the tactical aspect of it?’ Connor thought. There were glasses that would block sunlight and serve as sunglasses in daytime and became transparent at night, exactly like a regular pair of glassses. This one was definitely not transparent but seeing through it was not so hard.

Out of curiosity, Connor opened his character sheet and checked his equipment.
Standard Private Battle Vest
Weight: 4
Protection Efficiency: 0.5
Standard Private Battle Trousers
Weight: 1
Protection Efficiency: 0.3
His vest and trousers were probably his most important items other than his weapons for the time being. According to the system, vest had a 0.5 protection efficiency. Less than one.
‘Is it because its free? Fuck you, system.’ Connor thought.
He could not find any other details about these two items. Apparently his boots came with the trousers and the t-shirt was connected with the vest itself. It was weird, but there were no additional slots on the sheet.
With even more uncertainty regarding the protection efficiency, Connor closed down the shop and got up. Taking the tray on the desk he moved to the door and opened it. Putting the tray on the floor before going in the room and closing the door and heading towards the bed.
A few hours later, Connor woke up. It was a similar scene as yesterday. The sun was barely up but this time around, Connor actually felt refreshed. Stretching as he got up. His eyes looked for his smartphone for a moment. It was an habit. Every morning when he woke up, he would check his phone for the days forecast and important news. After remembering the situation he is in, he sighed.
Connor got up and opened the window and took a look at the street once again. It was the exact same thing. Adventurers roaming the streets with hawkers and shop owners slowly preparing their stalls and shops respectively.
Connor looked at the parchment paper on the desk. It was the map that he had bought yesterday at the Adventurer's Guild. ‘Come to think of it, I never checked it out.’ He thought to himself as he took the paper and opened the roll.
He was met with the most bland looking map ever. When compared to the map on the quest papers this one was definitely better but… it was… definitely not worth 2 gold. ‘It should not be worth 2 gold.’ Connor thought as he inspected the map. Sure enough, the maps center was a drawing of a town covered with walls. There was a writing right above the drawing, Connor assumed it would mean Sethra as the drawing definitely was the town itself. Connor looked at the nearby surroundings of the town. Other than the roads leading to what looked like some villages there were some that led outside the paper itself.
‘Must be roads to other cities.’ Connor thought as these were marked with some sort of a writing. Luckily enough, he was able to locate the mountains and the village closest to it. There was a name on top of the village drawing, a name that Connor could not read. Apparently, the system did not translate the maps. The village and the mountains was located to the east of Sethra. Connor rolled up the map, put it in his vest and headed downstairs.
“My lord, good morning!” Jeanne immediately took notice of Connor coming down as she wiped the counter. Preparing for the day. Noticing his hat and glasses.
“Good morning.” Connor answered.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Of course my lord!”
After receiving her reply, Connor moved to the counter and opened the roll of the map and pointed to the village that was his goal.
“What is this village called and how can I go there?” he asked.
“Uhh…” Jeanne alternated between looking at the map and looking at Connor for a few seconds. The village’s name was clearly written there.
“Thornsfield, my lord.” Jeanne answered after a few seconds. “You would need to leave from the east gate. It will put you on this-” Jeanne said as she pointed out a road. “Road that you would need to follow.”
“How do I get to the east gate?” Connor asked.
“Our Inn is located near the west gate, so you have to travel some distance. If you go to the west gate and just follow the road right beside the gate to the left, you will reach the south gate. If you keep going, you’ll reach the east gate my lord.” Jeanne answered.
“I see. Thank you.” Connor said as he rolled up the map and put it in his vest.
“Can I get something to eat?”
“Of course my lord!” Jeanne answered happily.
