Chapter 4: To Drone or not to Drone

Ice slowly looked around as the blue bubble faded away around him. The air inside the ship smelled of ozone and was still hot but somehow it felt humid almost like he was in a sauna. He called out to Raven softly hoping the AI wasn't broken even as he pushed a button on the ships control panel only to have nothing happen.

"Yes, Ice I'm still here I am not part of the ship you know I am part of you one of your augmentations."

Ice chose to overlook anything besides that he wasn't quite alone. He slowly made his way to where the tutorial said the back of the ship was. As he reached it he tried to use the panel next to the airlock but nothing happened it didn't light up and the door didn't open. Cursing under his breath he grabbed the heavy manual override lever and putting all of his weight behind it barely got it to move down enough to disengage the airlock.

As the door opened he smelled salt and he could see a dark green water washing up on a sandy blue beach. As he stepped outside he heard a whirring sound behind him as three small four legged robots seemed to disengage from the wall near the airlock. He tensed not knowing what they were.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Raven spoke to him sounding amused, "I have taken the liberty of engaging your Basic Combat Drones although the forth one seems to be damaged beyond useability."

Ice stared at the drones as they moved out the airlock behind him. Two of them looked almost like dogs in how they moved. They had what looked like small tubes coming out of their backs pointed forward. It looked like they were on an articulating arm so they could aim, he guessed. The last drone on the otherhand was much smaller and seemed to almost blend into the background as he watched it. It didn't seem to have a weapon but the AI said it was a basic combat drone so he was sure it had something.

As he watched the three drones spread out the 2 larger ones moving in to flank him the articulated arms moving as the drones looked around. the third drone seemed to vanish completely the only sign of its passing were footprints in the sand.

"Uhm Raven why would I need basic combat drones? I thought you said that we could get repairs here?" Ice asked nervously

"Yes, you can earn enough points to purchase the neccessary repair kits to repair this ship which will cost 5000 points.... Or you can purchase a new ship for 1000 points. Or an upgraded ship for 8000 points." The AI supplied this information its voice coming from one of the nearby drones instead of seeming to come from all around him.

"Ah and how do I earn points?" Ice asked even tho he thought he knew the answer.

"Complete quests. Kill others." The AI actually sounded cheery as it said this.

"Oh..."
