Prelude

Since before time began there have been two opposing forces fighting for ultimate control of all existence. One of light and protection that came to be known as The System that blessed sentient beings with the ability to grow stronger. And the other one of darkness and destruction, known as The Darkness that cursed worlds with unimaginable blights.

No one truly knew where these two forces came from or why they came to be but whole worlds were shaped by them. One world in particular was shaped by these forces when the multiverse was in its infancy. A world consumed by the darkness until a lone city survived, a city of warriors that fought back the tide of darkness.

The darkness sensing its impending loss when victory was all but guaranteed not long ago poisoned the universe so nothing could exist. The System balanced out that act of destruction by encircling the city in impenetrable stone to protect it. To protect the men, women, and children from starving The System opened portals to other worlds in other dimensions for them to explore for short periods.

The men and women of this city so used to battle traveled through these portals to fight back The Darkness of any world they visited slowly starting legends and myths that permeated the multiverse until Valhalla was seen as the resting place of heroes on all worlds.

But Valhalla was more than just the resting place of heroes, it became the breeding ground of heroes. Where every citizen of the city had the power to raze cities and fight armies single-handedly. What the multiverse did not know was the sadistic training they put their children through to become the future heroes of the multiverse.

The Academy trained their children in hand to hand combat and weapons training with grueling physical almost every day after they took their first step. The days that were considered a break for them was packed with intense studies of the types of worlds they would visit and apocalypses they would be fighting. No time was wasted on these children, any weakness beat out of them as they were forced to become stronger, faster, and smarter.

The Academy instructors used a brutal ranking system that all but guaranteed that the person ranked last would never rise up from that spot. The students were taught to look down on that person in the last place and to never be that weak. For when they went to other worlds everyone would be as weak as that person and must be shown the way. They were taught that the citizens of those worlds would be useless unless led by the students of The Academy. That nothing would compare to a graduate of The Academy as they fought back The Darkness.

This is not the story of the heroes of Valhalla. But the story of a child who was the whetstone that sharped those children. This is the story of Walter exile of Valhalla.
