Walk The Sky
A long, long time ago...

A long, long time ago...

Prince Oliver was Princess Alice’s childhood friend. They’ve been friends since they were only babies. Their parents, the King and Queen of two different countries, were sworn allies from the day they first met. Needlessly to say that the youngest Prince of Faysnow and the Third Princess of Roseden had plenty of chance and time to form a strong relationship that will last for their entire lifetime.

The Prince wasn’t someone who appreciate violence; he prefers to use alternate ways to end a conflict without anyone getting physically hurt. However, he would, without a second thought, draw his sword to protect his kingdom and the kingdom of his admired girl.

The Princess, as you would’ve guess, had a rather active personality. Although she wouldn’t purposely pick fights with other children, she certainly welcomes it if someone else that started it. That said, she still enjoys reading books and does the things girls of her age do.

When the Prince and Princess were together, they were inseparable and seemingly unstoppable, even though they were only children. There was one time, during their adventures in their respective kingdoms under disguises, where they met an old widow which had previously sold the best bread in the two neighbouring kingdoms.

The story of the widow was sad. Her husband had been the one selling the bread and she enjoyed every second baking them with him. Ever since he passed away, their shop has lost all their customers because she didn’t know the recipes. She chose not to, she stated explicitly when the Prince and Princess were listening to her story, because it was part of what she loved about her husband. A sense of mystery that will surprise her every day.

Despite that, she wanted to see their shop to once more filled with customers that wanted nothing more to enjoy the bread her husband made.

The Prince and Princess insisted on helping the old widow even though she herself doesn’t believe her dream would come true. After all, no one knew what the recipes were.

The two children of the royal family came up with a crazy yet successful plan. They searched and asked every single person that have tasted the bread before, including the old widow herself. It wasn’t an easy task, obviously. But their determination has shaken many people, and soon they had an enormous group of individuals aiding their quest.

After months of asking around and testing the taste of the bread with the old widow, the most famous shop for the past few decades in the two kingdoms was finally reopened for one last time.

To say the reopening was mind-blowingly amazing would be an understatement. Everyone in the two kingdoms that had heard about the reopening came. Luckily, the shop was set in a rather wide open space and that bakers from nearly every bakery had come to help, along with the people that had been following the two kids. Even the King and Queen of Faysnow and Roseden came, and boy were they surprise when they saw their kids working hard to serve seemingly endless customers.

The widow was overjoyed beyond words. The scene where her husband kept on talking about, the scene where he could see all the people of two kingdoms standing before his shop buying his bread, had finally become a reality. She cried, of course, along with her other old friends that were also close with her husband.

The Prince and Princess were elated. This was the first time they did something good. It felt great.

After that day, everything went back to normal, but the two kids would still regularly visit the old widow.

The days following were peaceful, that is, until one of the underlings of the evil Wizard had prophesied that The Twins of the Sun, a title given to Prince Oliver and Princess Alice by the people after the bread incident, would bring an end to his great and terrible empire.

Without realizing it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, the evil Wizard made his way to the Roseden kingdom and kidnapped Princess Alice under the blanket of the night.

The tragic news spread across the two kingdoms within a day. Although the King and Queen of Roseden were heartbroken, Prince Oliver suffered an overwhelming anguish. It felt as if the other half of his soul were ripped away from him.

However, he didn’t lose hope. He knew his love would be waiting for him to rescue her, no matter how long it took. The thought of seeing her again was enough to drive him to train himself so he would be strong enough to enter the evil Wizard’s territory when even their most powerful armies could not.

The Princess was not one to sit around in her prison and wait for her hero to save her. She wanted to escape, but the Wizard assured her that the moment she stepped out from his territory, he would vaporize  her kingdom and the neighbouring kingdom into ash.

She doubted that, sort of. If the Wizard wanted to do that, he could’ve done it already, even with the powerful barrier protecting the two kingdoms instead of luring the Prince. Oh yes, she knew about the Wizard’s objective and his reason to do this even though he didn’t speak a word about it. The demon workers in the castle tend to held conversations as they walk, sometimes even in front of the Princess’s prison. Still, she wouldn’t want to risk testing the Wizard’s word, so she obeyed his orders. However, the Wizard only stated she mustn't leave his territory, so the Princess had a brilliant idea…

A few years passed, the Prince and Princess had grown into teenagers. After all that time, the Prince was finally strong enough to defeat the Wizard, or at least he thought he would.

At the other side of the land, the Princess was building up her strength as well. The demon workers were treated unfairly by the Wizard; sometimes they would even die when the Wizard was in a bad mood. The Princess saw this as an opportunity to be exploited. She befriended with the demons, and she did it sincerely. Despite the fact she was using them to wander around the Wizard’s territory and learning magic, she pitied them. She promised them once the Prince had saved her, she would give them the freedom they’ve long as well.

Misfortune struck the Prince days before he made the journey to save the Princess. The King and Queen of Faysnow were murdered, and Prince Oliver was framed by his brothers as the one that did it. The people believed in Prince Oliver, but his brothers had the authority. They had been jealous of him since they were young, and when they had the chance to banish him from the kingdom, they took it. So now, not only the Prince has to face the army of the Wizard, he had to avoid getting captured by the soldiers of his beloved home.

When the Princess know of his situation, she almost stormed out from her prison. She refrained herself from acting on behalf of her impulse, because if she did, the Wizard would definitely shatter the barrier of Faysnow as the King, who had been the support of the barrier, had passed away. She could only hope the Wizard’s minion did not inform him about her beloved’s situation.

Eventually, the Prince was defeated. The other Twins of the Sun has finally fallen into the Wizard’s hand as well. She thought it was all over. But, she discovered that the Wizard was the one that had indirectly caused the death of the King and Queen of Faysnow through an agreement with the Prince’s greedy brothers. Apparently, the Wizard had his eye on a treasure in a sacred lake hidden behind the two kingdom, which was why he made the agreement and left the Red Dragon, his most powerful pawn in his entire army, to deal with the execution of the Prince and Princess. The Wizard knew he might not have the chance to defeat the Twins as his underling’s prophecy rarely goes wrong, which was why he wanted the treasure, an artifact, to guarantee his victory.

It was the Princess’s time to strike. Her years of amassing allies and learning magic would finally pay off the moment she broke out from her prison and went straight to the Prince.

The Red Dragon was supposed to transport Prince OIiver from a temporary holding cell guarded by an incredibly large amount, but all equally weak, guards back to the Wizard’s territory. Luckily, the Princess took a shortcut and arrived there before the scaly beast.

When she finally met her love after mowing down countless demons with her own demons, she could see severe injuries all over his body. She was pained to watch him in such a state, but she pulled herself together and healed him. Despite her marvelous healing magic, she could not heal his heart.

The Prince was still in a trance-like state from the ambush even after his physical wounds had disappeared. His loving parents were suddenly killed, his brothers declared him as the traitor of the kingdom, and his eventual defeat at the hands of the Wizard’s minions, all of that happened too fast for him to comprehend. He was emotionally devastated. When he saw the Princess’s face, he thought he was hallucinating at the brink of death. He kept on apologizing about how he was weak and couldn’t save anyone, how he let everyone down.

The Princess consoled him as they both let their tears flow down. She speaks of the disparity she felt during her time in the prison. Hope was so far away for her. She missed her home and her childhood friend in every waking moment. She thought of taking her life so she could end her suffering. The only reason she held on and kept on walking forward was because of the words he once said to her.

“If there comes a time when you are in danger, no matter where you are, no matter how many obstacles I have to hurdle through to save you, to bring you back to my side, I will do it, even if it means to slay a god. After all, we are the Twins of the Sun; we are meant for each other.”

A waterfall of tears streamed down the Prince’s face once he realized his love was really in front of him after all the nights he spent missing her. They were finally together again.

Time waits for no one. By the time the Prince had fully recovered, the Red Dragon has arrived to devour them. No one had defeated the Red Dragon before, even the Wizard himself. The only reason the Wizard could tame him was because he has the ability to provide the Red Dragon’s need.

Despite the danger they were facing, Prince Oliver and Princess Alice were smiling confidently. Together, as the Twins of the Sun, they are unstoppable.

No battle this great has taken place on this land before. Each and every blow the Red Dragon delivered could easily destroy a village, but the Twins, with the help of the demons Princess Alice befriended, held on. Every defense and every attack were precise, there was no room for error. They managed to weaken the Red Dragon and the Twins dealt the killing blow at the same time. It was their victory.

The Prince was unsure if killing the Red Dragon was necessary. The Princess assured him that it’s the right choice to take because if they don’t kill it, it would have either killed them or other innocent beings.

Now that they had vanquished the treacherous Red Dragon, they had to hurry back to their kingdom.

The King of Roseden ultimately fell after maintaining the barrier of the lake for long period of time to prevent the Wizard from obtaining the legendary artifact sealed beneath the lake.

The Prince and Princess teleported to the Roseden castle ASAP. They were too late, the wizard has begun unsealing the artifact.

When Princess Alice saw her father on the ground, she rushed over to heal him. The damage done was too great, however, and he only had a few minutes left to bid his goodbye. The King said the Queen was killed during the Wizard’s ambush with the help of Prince Oliver’s brothers. As for her sisters, they were successfully sent to somewhere safe far away. The soldiers fought, but they could not even scratch the Wizard.

Princess Alice can now understand the Prince’s grief. She begged her father not to die as she poured every bit of her energy into healing him. Her father, not as a King, but as her father, prayed that she will succeed in stopping the Wizard and have a happy life with the Prince. Right before his breath went out, he said he was glad to be able to see his daughter for the final time. The King’s body went limp and the Princess cried as loud as she can. Fate could be so cruel.

The Prince’s brother subsequently discovered he had returned and began attacking him whilst his beloved was still mourning.

As the battle went on, the Princess eventually recovered from her sorrow and went straight to the Wizard. Although her heart was filled with rage, she reminded herself she was not doing this for vengeance, she was doing this for the sake of the two kingdoms.

The Prince did not wish to harm his brothers, no matter what they’ve done. His brothers were strengthened by the Wizard, so they could not easily be defeated by the Prince. They spoke of their hate towards him, how they were envious of him, how they were never been able to capture their parent’s attention ever since he was born.

In the end, the Prince defeated them, but he did not kill them. Instead, he expressed his own pain to his brothers and that he would forgive them for whatever they’ve done. They are still the only blood family he had left. His brothers were not convinced at the beginning, but Prince Oliver was incredibly skilled in using words to persuade others. They were finally convinced to lay down their sword after the Prince had promised he would do everything in his power to calm the anger of the people of Faysnow and convince them to spare his brothers.

Princess Alice could not longer drag down the Wizard. The Prince arrived just in time to witness the Wizard obtaining the powerful artifact. The artifact was a tool to bring out the worst of people. Upon seeing the Twins in front of him, the Wizard used the artifact on them without a delay. The two of them held hands and braced for impact.

Fortunately for our protagonists, the artifact had no effect on them. Maybe it was because their bond for each other was so strong that it repelled its power or perhaps the artifact have been sealed for too long that it had already lost it power.

“So, the Twins of the Sun have come to face me. Why? To exact revenge? To rid the chaos I have brought to your kingdoms? The darkness is humanity’s only salvation, your light shall blind them from the truth of this world!”

“Perhaps, but your darkness has brought pain and anguish to this land and its people.”

“Our light might blind them, but the hope we bring will give them the strength to live on.”

“As the Twins of the Sun and the Prince of Faysnow, we will strike you down!”

“As the Twins of the Sun and the Princess of Roseden, we will strike you down!”

The final battle ensued. The Princess knew her love would not want to kill the Wizard, so she came up with an alternate plan to defeat him. To do that, Prince Oliver would be the one distracting the now enraged Wizard while Princess Alice would prepare the ritual while also providing support.

The Prince missed one of his attacks and was harmed by the Wizard. As the Prince laid down on the ground with a bleeding wound, the Wizard cast a spell that would’ve ended his life. But, the Princess was faster. Her ritual was completed and the Wizard was sucked into a sphere the Princess placed before the casting of the spell was finished.

It was finally over. The evil that has been preying on this vast land was vanquished. Yet, his consciousness had not yet faded.

The Princess magically stuffed the Wizard into the sphere. His voice could be heard, but he only had a flying glass ball as a body. She explained that once the Wizard had atoned for his wrongdoings and become a benevolent entity, he would be free. The villain complained, of course, but unless he wish to be trapped in there for all eternity, he had to suck it up and do as the Princess wish.

Peace was once more returned to the two Kingdoms. Prince Oliver officially became King Oliver and Princess Alice would forever be addressed as Queen Alice.

Their marriage ceremony was nothing short of awe. Every citizen in the two Kingdoms pulled out any and every trick they had and performed it before the Twins of the Sun.

Since they decided not to be merely the King of Faysnow and the Queen of Roseden, they seek out their brothers and sisters to help them oversee the operations of the two kingdoms, essentially creating a new kind of ruling system. Perhaps Oliver’s brother would also find happiness with Alice’s sisters. Who can know for sure? Oh, and not to forget about the Queen’s demons. Turns out, the people of the two kingdoms find them quite adorable. The two races were able to live harmoniously together without any major conflict.

You might expect me to end the story with ‘And they lived happily ever after.’ Well, it’s not wrong to say that they do live happily after that, but for every single day of their life? Maybe not. There will be times where they would argue with each other and there will be times where they will be disappointed with their other half. They are humans, they have flaws, they have to deal with the harsh reality of life. However, no matter what happens in the future, no matter the hardship they will face, they would still stand by each other, hands holding, and depend on each other to solve their problems together. Why? Because they love each other no matter what, because they are the Twins of the Sun, and they will walk the sky, to do whatever they want, side by side, until the very end.
