Chapter 2: The Delights of Dandelions
The sun cast a warm glow over the fields of Eden Online as Oliver continued his exploration of the wonders that lay hidden within the game. His trusty basket in hand, Oliver quickly developed a keen eye for identifying various flora, and today he was particularly intrigued by the humble dandelion.
Oliver crouched down beside a patch of dandelions found in the fields outside of town, observing the vibrant yellow flowers swaying gently in the breeze. With a gentle touch, Oliver attempted to pluck a few dandelions, but to his surprise, they disappeared into pixels before his eyes. Confusion filled his expression as he tried again, only to come up with the same outcome. The dandelions seemed to resist his attempts at gathering them properly.
“AUG! Not again!”
After loosing the fifth flower in a row Oliver threw his hands up in defeat, punching the ground in anger. Standing up from his kneeling position in the dirt, Oliver dusted off his pants before thinking about the situation.
“The other wildflowers weren’t nearly as difficult to obtain as this.” He grumbled.
Frustrated and determined to understand what was happening, Oliver decided to seek guidance. He made his way back to Everdale, intending to visit the town's library, a haven of knowledge.
A few moments later Oliver entered the library. Eyes wide from excitement while scanning the rows of books, the player’s gaze fell upon a kind looking old woman. An NPC named Evelyn. Puting aside a couple of books, and taking off her reading glasses, the librarian waved Oliver over. Approaching her, Oliver gave a small knod in greeting before hesitantly asked for assistance.
“Excuse me, ma'am. I have a peculiar problem I need help with. I’m collecting dandelions. Every time No matter how hard I try to pluck them, they just disappear into pixels. I can't seem to gather them properly.”
Evelyn, Chuckling softly, just smiled. “Ah, my dear, you've stumbled upon the playfulness of nature in this realm. Fear not, for I know just the book that can shed some light on the matter.”
“Please, I would be grateful for any guidance you can offer.”
The librarian put aside her things before leading the young man through the maze of bookshelves that made up the library. Suddenly the short woman stopped at a row of books, before taking one off the shelf. She dusted it a bit, seemingly having not been read in some time, before passing it to Oliver.
“This book will get you started, telling you all you need to know about the basics of gathering. Dandelions possess a mischievous spirit within this world. They require a delicate touch and patience to gather successfully. To harvest them properly, you need to be mindful of the right time of day. Dandelions are best collected in the early morning when their petals fully open, allowing their essential properties to be preserved.”
Oliver listened attentively, a glimmer of hope rekindling within him.
“If you are careful and only collect the blossoms, and avoid the bitter green stems, you can allow the plant to keep producing more blooms later. This is a healthier approach that helps avoid over harvesting. Something quite damaging to the land itself. But if you have a need, you can collect the whole plant also. To do that you began by digging around the roots of the dandelion, loosening the soil. Then, focus your mind and channel a calm energy. Extend your hands out gently, as if you're cradling the plant’s essence, and scoop the entire plant up with a confident yet delicate motion, ensuring that you captured both the vibrant bloom and roots. Only then will they remain in your possession.”
“So, it's about treating the plant gently. I’ll have to give it another try, being more careful not to damage the plant then.”
Evelyn smiled in response “That's the spirit, young one. Remember, the dandelions will respond to your intentions. Approach them with respect, and they shall yield their treasures to you.”
Oliver thanked Evelyn warmly, feeling a renewed sense of determination. He left the library, ready to apply the wisdom he had just received.
The next morning, just as the sun started to rise, Oliver logged back into the game.

Encouraged by his first successful harvest, Oliver moved on to the next dandelion, approaching it with the same care and precision. However, this time, the dandelion seemed to playfully toy with him. Just as he thought he had secured it, the flower wilted and disappeared before his eyes.
“What? No! That one slipped away!”
