Chapter Thirteen: Two Alphas
‘Life. Death. It happens and it ends, however where does it truly begin? I’ve searched the world for hundreds of years but I cannot come across an answer. We High Humans have a long time to think, live, and gain vast knowledge. However what have we done? Nothing. Today i’ve made a slight breakthrough into gaining eternal life. Not for us, but for all humans. We can finally overcome one of our greatest weakness’. How you might ask? Yggdrasil is the answer. I’ve found facts, knowledge that it exists. What is it? The place where the gods are, the place we can go to gain eternal life. I know that once I find it, it’ll change all of mankind. The path of Life and Death doesn’t start with us, it starts with the gods! Find them, and we’ll gain the true answer.’
‘The tree of life…’ Zu muttered to himself as he closed the white book in his hands. This book was profound. It had knowledge from all of the members of the league from all across the years. Zu read only the third entry, but he’s already learned much more about the world that he lives in. The first three entries were made more than eight hundred years ago, but the answers still weren’t solved. In the first entry it talked about the creation of weapons that will never break. Weapons that were forged from the soul, that could slice any armor in two.
The writer of that entry came across it when he did research into the souls of humans. However he died soon after he recorded his entry because his soul was under tremendous pressure from it trying to change. However the third entry is what caught Zu’s eye the most. It talked about gaining eternal life and never dying. Also saying that the Gods live at the tree of life. If Zu had eternal life what would he do with it?
“Still reading that book?” Brent asked as he noticed Zu’s eyes glued into the white book. He didn’t understand what was in it because Zu wouldn’t let him see, but he knew it came from that Church man.
“Yes, it’s very interesting.” Zu told Brent.
“Pft. Reading… right.” Brent said with a serious face. He didn’t like reading much because it was stupid. You’ll want to know more than you bargained for only to find it and die at the end. What’s the point? As long as you know the basics your good. This was what Brent thought about reading.
“Reading can be very beneficial. I know nothing… I mean I don’t know much about the world outside the village so reading can increase my knowledge. Who knows, this book might hold the answers I search for.” Zu replied as he put the book in his inventory.
Brent who was laying down by the fire yawned. He then sat up and glanced at Zu. “I don’t get it. You are very strange.”
“Get what? How am I strange?” Zu asked.
“First you ask all these weird questions that everyone should know. Second where the Hell did the book go! Third why are you wearing that thing over your head, it just looks weird as hell.” Brent told Zu.
Zu pointed towards the white headband over his head. “This was a gift from the Church man. He told me to wear it until I find something to replace it if I want. As for the questions, doesn’t everyone want to know something? I mean I want to know where I grew up and who I am. If I don’t know, then i’ll just be thinking about it till the day I die. As for the book magically disappearing… I don’t know where it goes. I just place it in this thing called ‘inventory’ and it disappears there.”
Brent sighed. “I don’t understand. Look at me.” Brent pointed to himself and his bag. “I have to carry around all my stuff and your shit just magically disappears. That’s a load of bull!”
Zu shrugged as he laid down. “I guess that’s just how everything works. If I knew who I was I could give you a better answer.”
“I guess. Just make sure you hire me again….” Brent told Zu as he laid back down.
“You know I might leave the village soon. I can’t stay there because I can’t find the answers I need.”
“Doesn’t matter, hire me anyways! As long as I get paid, i’ll be satisfied. If you throw in some women too, that’ll be even better!”
Zu sighed, he didn’t understand Brent and women. The first time he seen Brent, Brent was getting attacked by some female. When he found the two Church members, Brent tried to hit on the woman inside only to get beat up. Zu doesn’t even know why Brent tries when he obviously has no luck with them.
Zu closed his eyes, ‘It’s been a long day.’ He told himself as he let his body rest. In these past few days a lot has happened, and Zu is still trying to process it all.
Zu’s body shakes as he slowly opens his eyes. He doesn’t know how long it has been since he closed his eyes, but it’s still dark out! “W-what!?” He says while he starts Yawning. Brent woke him up in the middle of the night.
Brent places his hand over his mouth and tells Zu to be quiet. “We are surrounded.” Brent whispers to Zu.
Zu immediately wakes up. He turns his head and looks in all directions, only to find a pack of wolves coming by. Zu didn’t know how he didn’t sense them coming because his hearing, smell and all the other senses were increased. He thought about it and understood, he’s a heavy sleeper.
“Why did they surround us?” Zu had to ask.
When they camped out last time, the wolves didn’t even bother them. Now all of a sudden they approach them. Did some more of those ‘Jumpers’ cause this?
Brent shook his head. “No, the Alpha’s are here.” Brent told him as he pointed to two big wolves far behind the other wolves. Their size were at least twice as big as the others.
“Why are they here?” Zu asked. He knew what Alpha’s were, but he didn't think that there would be two of them out here. Usually they don’t do anything and stay behind while the rest of the pack hunts.
“Probably because we killed most of them earlier…” Brent whispered to him.
Zu nodded. ‘They are still causing us trouble even after they die.’ Zu muttered to himself as he took out his silver mace. Those three ‘Jumpers’ from earlier lured a bunch of wolves into attacking them. Once they were died the Alpha’s must have come out to get revenge. How? Zu smelt himself and he didn’t smell anything. He turned his head towards Brent and took a quick whiff. ‘So that’s why…’
With his increase his his sense of smell, he could still smell wolf blood on Brent. Although the monster might have vanished, they still leak blood when they are injured. Some of it had to have gotten on Brent and the Alphas tracked down the smell.
“We should just kill them instead of waiting. Why wait on our deaths when we can charge our way out.” Zu gave his opinion.
Brent nodded his head in agreement. “You’re right, we should charge our way out. However we go in the direction of the village, if we charge at those two Alphas we’ll be killed for sure. But if we go in the direction of the village, we could have reinforcements ready in no time.”
Congratulations! Player SwishRoll is the first player to reach level 10 and change his class. He has received +20 extra stat points and +50 fame.
Zu ignored the blue box that appeared, it didn’t have anything to do with him. Besides, he didn’t know who this SwishRoll was. Besides, how hard could it be to actually reach level ten? Zu himself was already level eight, only two more to go.
Zu held his mace in his hand and grabbed the handle of it. It was way lighter than before, he felt that he could swing this thing for ages and he wouldn’t get tired. Brent next to him took out his two daggers and darted at the wolves behind them. This was the only way to go if they wanted to head to the village.
Brent slashed the first wolf in the eye while he stabbed it in the head, killing it. The other wolves started to react and the two Alphas who were in front of them darted after them as well. Zu jumped into the fight and used [Holy Smash] on a wolf. His mace was covered in golden light and it had the illusion as if it was a huge hammer. Zu’s hands moved by themselves and smashed it against a wolf.
You’ve dealt 200 Damage to Demonic Wolf
Zu’s eyes almost popped out. Two hundred damage was huge, he could one shot these things. His damage output after his race change was huge as well. Being a High Human really had it’s perks, but wouldn’t it be even better if all his stats went into Strength? If he did that, how high would the damage be then?
The Demonic wolf was flattened in a matter of a second. However it didn’t matter to the Alpha wolves, they were easily approaching Zu and Brent in a matter of seconds. Zu and Brent still had wolves to fight before they made a breakthrough, but the Alphas would be upon them soon. ‘Wait for it… wait for it.’ Zu told himself as he kept beating on these wolves. Even if he just casually swung his mace out, the damage was still good. It hit them for fifty or sixty points each time.
The experience points he was getting were flying in incredibly fast. ‘Now!’ The Two Alphas were right behind Zu and Brent. They were in a two meter range which was just enough for Zu to use his skill. The only way to make a path and get out of this alive is if he used [Battle Cry]. However [Battle Cry] only works in a five meter range, so it was best to wait until those two Alphas were in it’s range.
Zu roared as he used [Battle Cry] causing the Demonic wolves to be stunned and inflict fear. Zu was happy, now they could escape much easier. Only if he didn’t get a blue box telling him his [Battle Cry] failed.
Battle Cry has failed The two Elite Alpha Wolves are resistant to fear and stun. They don’t fear you at all. Thanks to you provoking them even greater, their stats have increased by 10%.
‘Really!?’ Zu screamed in his head. Those two Alphas weren’t fazed by his [Battle Cry] at all and instead it increased their stats. He didn’t think that these types of monsters had a resistance to his skill. Didn’t that mean that other monsters also had it!?
“Run while they are stunned!” Zu shouted.
Brent was already on his A game and jumped over the few wolves ahead of him. His speed was great, way faster than Zu’s. Zu jumped over the wolves that were ahead of him as well, he still had time before the stun wore off.
The two Alpha wolves howled causing the stunned wolves to break free. Their eyes seemed to glow deep red and they dashed for Zu and Brent. They were still suppose to have two seconds left on the stun, and now they broke free! These Alphas were cheating the system Zu thought.
When the two Alpha wolves howled, it freed the wolves from any bad status on them. Not only that, it increased their stats by a certain amount. They didn’t have anything to fear against Zu and Brent because the two Alphas were on their side!
“Damnit Zu. Try again!” Brent yelled as he continued to run.
“I can’t! It’s still on a cool down!” Zu cried.
“What the hell!? Why can’t you roar again? Go, give us a big roar like before!” Brent urged. ‘What the hell does he mean he can’t!? All he has to do is open his damn mouth and roar, at least it’ll buy us some time.’ Brent said to himself.
Brent doesn’t know why Zu is saying he can’t do it, but he knows Zu can. Not to mention anyone can roar, you just open your mouth and put fear into your opponent. Of course Brent himself can’t do it, because he isn’t suppose to be on the front lines. He hides in the shadows and attacks from behind. The only reason he is jumping directly at these wolves is because they are weak. However he can’t fight two Alphas by himself.
Zu shook his head. He can’t use [Battle Cry] again because it’s still on cooldown. If Brent knew that Zu was like those ‘Jumpers’ he would freak out.

Zu ran with all his might, however the wolves were still hot on his trail. Brent who was in front of him stopped and turned around. Two dark blue glows were coming from his daggers. Brent threw both daggers at the wolves that were behind them. The daggers flew in the air and an image of a panther appeared. It clawed at the wolves and a big boom was heard.
Zu turned around and noticed that there were countless wolves dead or limping. He looked at Brent and gave him a thumbs up. Now they have extra space, not to mention they should be getting close to the village.
‘Wait… if we lead them to the village. How will we even get reinforcements?’ Zu asked himself. Brent and him were both outside the village, so how could they possibly get reinforcements in time they arrived at the village. If they actually went to the village like they were, the village would be destroyed!
“When did you contact the village to get reinforcements?” Zu questioned Brent.
Brent turned his head to Zu and smiled. He pointed towards his ear. “Communication chip is planted in my ear. As long as I think of someone in the Army, I can contact them. That’s… only if we are close by though.”
Zu nodded. This communication chip is just like the thing that he needed to add the ‘Jumpers’ as a friend. However it seems like a downgraded version of it.
The village was in sight and there were still ‘Jumpers’ outside the village hunting. Zu didn’t know why they didn’t come across on their way running back here, but now he was grateful. As long as these ‘Jumpers’ helped them then everything would be alright.
The players who were grinding mobs noticed Zu and Brent running with a lot of wolves behind them. Then their eyes grew big as they noticed two huge wolves behind the little ones. They noticed Zu’s look at them, but they turned their head and continued to grind monsters.
‘The hell!’ Zu yelled to himself. These ‘Jumpers’ came to his rescue when he didn’t even know he was by that Pink Crowned Rabbit. Now he is in trouble and they don’t even budge to help him.
Zu ignored them and continued to run. He noticed that at the entrance to the village were a group of Army members. They were armed to the teeth with weapons and armor.
“Brent, you so owe me!” A voice yelled out.
Zu recognized this voice, it was the same one that was telling Brent off earlier. That woman who seemed like she wanted to stab him to death.
She was dressed in armor and had a sword at her side. She raised her sword and gave the signal for the others to charge. They roared as the Army members dashed at the Wolves.
Brent continued to run past the charing Army because he threw his daggers away. Zu didn’t know if he would return, but he would stay and fight. Not only would these wolves give him experience, if he killed those two Alphas then he would gain stat points.
The Army collide with the Demonic Wolves, and started slashing away at them. Some of the bigger members attacked the two Alphas. Zu turned around and started hammering his way through as well.
“Wow, is this some sort of special event?” Someone asked.
“I don’t think so, we would have gotten a notification.”
“Besides, there isn’t even a boss in sight. Only those two Elite wolves, i’m sure they can handle it.”
“Aww, but the exp.”
“Eh, we wouldn’t be able to help anyways. All the other players mostly logged because vision is restricted at night time, and the higher leveled players are grinding bears. We are only level two, and you want us to fight them?”
“I guess.”
Those two Alphas weren’t a boss class monster. Instead they were an Elite class. The difference between a boss and elite is that a boss controls everything, while an elite only a portion. The experience given is also not as great if you were to kill a boss monster.
You’ve gained 45 exp
You’ve gained 45 exp
The amount of experience Zu was earning was lower than before. ‘Is it because I leveled up?’ Zu asked himself. He wasn’t wrong, if you level up then the amount of experience you are given is lower facing the same monster. This is in place so that the players won’t be able to farm low level monsters all day.
The Demonic wolves started dying down leaving the Two Alphas. Zu’s eyes grew big as he rushed at one of them.
Elite AlphaLevel:12HP:2355/3000MP:0
It’s hp was three times as high as the Deer King! No wonder Brent decided to run against it. When it moved its paw to hit the Army below it, it blew them away. Their armor was holding out, but some were coughing up blood.
Zu’s grip tightened on his mace as he used [Quick Strike] to attack the Elite Alpha. His speed felt like it doubled from before as his body moved. The mace hit the Elite Alphas leg.
You’ve dealt 75 Damage to Elite Alpha
‘Only seventy five points! How high is it’s defense!?’ Zu asked himself. He thought that his strength increased by a lot so he should be able to deal this thing tons of damage. However it didn’t even do a hundred damage to it.
A person flew past Zu and started bleeding. His armor had a hole in it and he was kneeling on one knee. Zu approached him and used [Heal]. A white light shot out from his mace and flew at the injured man. The white light was absorbed by his body causing his injuries to slowly heal. It wasn’t by a lot, but it was enough that he could stand back up.
“Thanks.” He told Zu as he darted back at the Elite Alpha.
Zu pointed his mace at the Elite Alpha and used [Curse]. A black fog came out and flew over the the Elite Alpha while it swirled around it’s body. After a short while it went up it’s nose.
You’ve cursed Elite Alpha
Curse has inflicted Elite Alpha with Depression Depression - Causes all movement speed and attack speed to decrease by 25% Dodge rate and attack power is decreased by 15%
Zu’s eyes almost popped out. Such a status came from him! Not only that it decreased the Alpha wolf's attack speed, power, and dodge rate. If only it decreased it’s status’ as well then that would make it even better.
The Elite Alpha’s eyes turned green. You could tell that it’s mood was effected because it started reacting to the Armies attacks slower. Slowly it’s health started going down under the constant attacks of the Army. Zu had to down a mana potion to fill his mana back up, because he was low. However the mana potion didn’t make him fill full, it felt like only a part was filled. He had to down another potion just to make himself full again.
Zu used [Holy Smash] on the Elite Alpha. His mace shined golden as it had the illusion of a giant hammer. It came down on the Elite Alpha’s head hard.
You've’ dealt 150 Damage to Elite Alpha
You’ve inflicted Stun on Elite Alpha Stun - unable to move for 5 seconds
‘Yes!’ Zu screamed as he continued to hammer away at the Elite Alpha. Soon the Elite Alpha collapsed under his might.
You’ve gained 250 exp
You’ve gained item(s): Wolf pellet, Gray sword
‘What!? That’s lower than the Deer King!’ Zu said. The experience he gained from the Deer King was much higher than this Elite wolf. However he did gain two items, so there wasn’t much to complain about.
Zu glanced at the other Elite Alpha, but before he could rush it, it died. That Elite Alpha had many more Army members attacking it.
Ding! Requirements have been met. Fen has been enraged because you’ve killed her children. She is on her way to destroy you and anyone involved.
