Taking Stock

Before heading to the warehouse I wanted to check my journal. From the quest description changing it was obvious the journal could change without giving me any sort of notification. I scanned each page carefully to see if anything had changed.

The first changes I noticed were on my character sheet.

I had a level and experience now. More importantly, I was almost to level 2. Apparently chasing that kid had given me most of a level. That or getting the clue about the Greys. Either way, it was good to know that I would be leveling soon.

The next new section I found was an inventory.

Equipped Items: See Compendium for more details

* Traveler’s Clothes

* Chainmail Shirt

* Arming Sword

* Buckler

Inventory:

* Currency: 0£, 0s, 1d, 0qua

I really needed to figure out what the different levels of currency were. I had one penny, so that must be what the d stood for, but what sense did that make? Also, Compendium? What’s that? I flipped through the pages until I found it. Apparently, it was where item descriptions were kept. It had a section each for weapons, armor, tools, transportation, and treasures. The only entries that were populated were for the starting equipment I had gotten.

Arming Sword: A straight one handed sword with a crossguard. Blade length: 30 inches. Weight: 2.5lb. Damage: Piercing / Slashing

Buckler: A small wooden and metal shield. Size: 12 inch diameter. Weight: 2lb. Damage: Bludgeoning

Chain Shirt: A shirt of steel ring chainmail that protects the torso and arms. Weight: 25lb

Not exactly a detailed description, but I guess it got the point across. I kept searching for changes to the journal. The only other change I found was the one for my quest. My old objectives, talking to the Archbishop and visiting the site of the most recent murder, were both logged and checked off.

It would really be nice if the tutorial told you that your journal would change automatically. I wanted to tell someone or write that down, but then checked myself. I wasn’t a tester any more. I was a guinea pig for a morally questionable corporation. What was the point of any of this? Did I really believe what the quest reward said? Even if I did, “winning” would just send me back stateside to find a new data entry job. Better than being trapped, but still.

I shook my head. Thinking about this was just going to drive me insane. I checked my map and headed towards the Grey warehouse. I needed something to do to distract me. If I got another clue from them I could probably level. Then I would be able to see my skills and finally plan my build.
