Chapter 27: Machine of Terror

Chapter 27: Machine of Terror

Heymlir and the group of adventurers and guild people are locked in combat. No matter what the adventurers threw at the exosuit, the iron-clad armor shrugged it off. Fireball spells are casted at the big hunk of metal but to no avail; not even burn marks. Even blows from using blunt weapons, swords or arrows failed to make even a scratch on the exosuit.

Random adventurer (thinking): This thing is unbelievably tough…!

While the adventurers aren’t able to damage the suit, their teamwork and numbers allowed them to restrict the suit’s movement and keep the fight at their tempo.

An adventurer tells his teammates nearby to cover for him and divert the mayor’s attention off of him as he wants to attempt something. The adventurer runs up to the suit with his heavy sword and leaps into the air. The heavy sword slams against the window of the cockpit and cracks it, immediately alarming Heymlir.

Adventurer: Good! That thing still has some weak points! Aim for the parts that are fragile!

An adventurer turns to a mage - “Can you buff us up?”

The female from the Rosemary guild turns to her mage as well and commands her to provide additional support.

Random adventurer: Let’s make short work of this now.

The mages begin to chant and their bodies glow as magic condenses into their bodies. Magical arrays form in front of them and the adventurers begin to glow as well. However, the buffing gets interrupted by Heymlir who sends the heavy arms of the exosuit thundering towards the group.

The group of adventurers quickly react and everybody scatters away immediately before they get crushed. The arm slams down onto the ground, shattering the floor.

Weiss makes a quick assessment of the exosuit - ‘That thing’s strong…But with that size and weight, it can’t be that fast. Since it’s also a machine, it won’t maneuver well.’

Weiss (thinking): We can overwhelm it with our speed. It won’t be able to catch up to us, especially now that we’ve been buffed—

The exosuit suddenly appears behind Weiss at breakneck speed, catching Weiss off guard and grabbing him by his arm. At a slight movement, the metallic hands of the exosuit crushes his arm and the young adventurer shrieks out in pain.

Everyone faces their attention to Weiss’s scream of agony, as they themselves try to catch up to the situation.

‘How…!?’ - Exclaims the golden armored female from the Rosemary guild in her head.

The robot lifts Weiss in the air as he questions: Why is it so fast…?! It’s reaction wasn’t like this before…!

An adventurer yells out: Aim for the top part! The window has been damaged! We just need to break through and stop the person inside!

The mages bombards the cockpit with magic spells swallowing the top half of the exosuit in a parade of explosions as it staggers back.

The cloud of smoke lifts up, but the cockpit is left completely unharmed.

Random mage: What!? But the window cracked from that attack earlier….How is it still fine…? We’ve even buffed ourselves…!

The same adventurer that cracked the window runs past the group of mages: Keep attacking it! I’ll try smashing open the window!

The robot gets pelted with magic again as the adventurer makes his way towards the exosuit.

Weiss immediately shouts: No! – Don’t!

But it was too late. The adventurer leaps with his sword raised in the air. At the same time, the robot lifts its arm in the air and slams it against the adventurer. Upon impact, the adventurer’s body explodes in a rain of blood; chunks of his remains scatter everywhere across the street.

Everybody stares in shock and horror.

Heymlir: ….I wasn’t expecting that.

Heymlir: A valiant effort. I do not wish to kill you all.

The robotic arm aims and readies itself to flick Weiss who is still being held firm in the robot’s other hand – “But you do need to be taught a lesson.”

The robot flicks its finger and Weiss’s body tears off his arm and is sent flying through the air; the body abruptly smashes into a nearby house, leaving a pattern of blood splotches smeared against it.

The look of horror befalls the face of the rest of the group.

Heymlir: Ah…I killed him… I didn’t even flick him that hard…

Heymlir: Another life with potential wasted… He could’ve been a great man to work with had we settled our differences…

One by one, the heroic group falls apart after witnessing the astonishing might of the exosuit empowered by the amp. Core.

Random adventurer: Sorry to do this…! But I think I’m going to call it quits here…!

A random guild member calls out the adventurer for his cowardice, but the golden armored warrior from Rosemary also declares that they will be withdrawing too.

Guild women: We’re withdrawing too. That thing is out of everybody’s scope…! Fighting that is too dangerous…! There’s no reason to risk our lives fighting that right now!”

The Rosemary warrior glances over at Heymlir, thinking to herself - ‘No wonder he was so confident…!’

The Rosemary warrior commands the rest of the guild to desert the place, but the exosuit appears before them.

Heymlir: I’ve said it before…That I’d rather not harm any of you…But I’m quite familiar with people like you. Some of you won’t stop here. You’ll come back with stronger allies, or you may even become stronger yourselves. It’s also possible any one of you can alert the army.

Sweat runs down the Rosemary warrior’s face.

Heymlir: I will not give you those chances.

The exosuit swings forward with a punch, colliding into the ground as the guild people quickly leaps out of the way, although not all of them were able to escape. One of the guildmates didn’t react fast enough and is left with his lower half of his body crushed.

The female guildmate cries out to her companion as the robot appears before her. The robot flicks her and her body is sent flying. The entire group is sent into a panic as Heymlir picks them off one by one as they try to escape their incoming demise.

Heymlir: Stop trying to avoid me. You're making it harder for me to cripple you, instead of killing you.

Moments have passed and Gregundy looks horrified at what he witnessed. The street has been dyed in the blood of the adventurers with parts of their leftovers strewn about everywhere alongside their clothes, armor and weapons. At the center of the scene stood the exosuit in all of its iron strong glory.

Heymlir: How troublesome…It seems this contraption was too much for them to handle. Its specs exceeded even my expectations.Yet it’s also pleasing to know that we have such a powerful device within our grasp.

Heymlir: Now Gregundy…Do you see…? It’s futile to try and go against me—

Without hesitation, Gregundy slams his pipe blade against the foot of the robot.

Heymlir: ...? What did you think that was going to do? I see you're still going to be stubborn about this. But that’s also what I like about you, Gregundy. – Grengundy glares back at Heymlir with defiance and determination.

Heymlir: Very well.

Heymlir raises the exosuit’s arm: Perhaps you will learn if you experience it yourself.

The robot arm swings itself at Gregundy but Gregundy disappears, leaving Heymlir perplexed.

Gregundy with his eyes shut closed, opens them and sees the child Archer carrying him in his arms. The oversized burnt clothes flutter in the air portraying him in a heroic light.

San cries out to Heymlir and he turns to bear his attention towards the protagonist group.

San: Let me handle this chaps. As a senior, this is my responsibility. - But Jayce interrupts him.

Jayce: Nah San, that old shit bag is mine.

Jayce starts cracking his knuckles: Don’t try to stop me, I'll do this alone. Besides…

A huge grin forms on Jayce’s face - “I have a bone to pick with him anyways.”
