Betrayal at Dusk

Lily Melanova.

A girl whom the world seemed to smile upon.

Her hair, as white as the moon that graced the night. Her heterochromatic eyes—one gold, one violet—like rare celestial gems. Her voice, soft and soothing, her songs like whispers of the wind. Everyone who knew her agreed on one thing:

Lily was someone who loved with all her heart.

And she did love.

She loved him.

The one she thought would hold her hand forever.

The one she thought would protect her from the cruelty of the world.

The one who made her believe that love was real.

They laughed together, whispered secrets beneath the night sky, and made promises of forever. In his arms, Lily felt like she had found home.

How foolish she was.

Because that home never existed.

That evening, the sky seemed to mourn with her.

Golden sunlight stretched across the empty pavement. A gentle breeze carried the scent of the cooling asphalt. But Lily didn’t notice any of it.

She just stood there, frozen.

Staring at the man she loved… as he held another woman in his arms.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Her heart screamed for denial. This has to be a mistake. There must be an explanation. But the only word that left her trembling lips was:

"Why?"

The man who once whispered sweet promises now looked at her with sheer boredom. As if her presence alone was a nuisance.

"Lily," he said casually, and then smiled.

A smile that once made her heart flutter… now felt like a dagger to the chest.

"I’ve been wanting to break up for a while now. You were just too stupid to realize it."

Her world shattered.

"What…?" Her voice barely came out.

"Honestly? I only stayed because I pitied you." He let out a small chuckle, voice dripping with mockery. "You’re boring, Lily. Pathetic. I don’t even know how I put up with you for so long."

Beside him, the woman laughed softly. "You really thought he loved you, huh? We’ve been together for months now."

Months?

Lily stumbled back. No… this can’t be real.

A sharp slap across her cheek made her realize it was.

SMACK!

Pain bloomed across her skin, burning. But her heart… her heart felt even worse.

Before she could even process what had happened, a violent kick landed on her stomach.

THUD!

The world spun.

Her body collapsed onto the cold pavement. Pain spread through her limbs, but his voice—his cruel, heartless voice—hurt the most.

"You’re disgusting." His tone was low, indifferent. "Don’t ever show your face to me again."

The woman crouched beside her, whispering in a sickeningly sweet voice.

"You’re nothing but trash, unworthy of even being pitied."

And just like that, they walked away.

Leaving her broken on the empty street.

The sun dipped below the horizon. The sky turned red.

And for the first time, Lily felt like she didn’t belong in this world.

"If there is life after death, I hope I can choose to remember nothing."
