CLINK! CLINK!
The flickering light of the lantern reflected off Sahal’s scales as he chipped away at the ore veins. The light seemed to comfort him as he stabbed away with the rusty iron pickaxe grasped in his huge hands. On his neck was a tight metal collar that drew attention away from the shackles on his wrists.
“Man, I’m tired. That bastard Jackson may be an overseer, but there’s no reason for him to be such a slavedriver…”
Sahal leaned against the wall, panting and puffing to regain his breath. Although his bulky stature appeared intimidating, one could tell from a glance that he was close to falling over. The constant hunger and thirst was catching up to him.
“I don’t have enough ore to meet the quota today. I’d best hurry it up before it gets dark out.”
CLINK!
With the next hit Sahal broke through the cave wall, and could see a vibrant blue glow. Visibly excited, Sahal continued his work. Soon enough the glow had spread throughout the area Sahal was in. He had been sent into the deepest part of the mineshaft as part of a punishment. No one else was around to see the odd site ahead of him. A block of a clear blue mineral stood ahead of him. He could see the semblance of a human body inside.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“What in Najima’s name is this?!”
Hurriedly, Sahal began to mine through the mineral, which was surprisingly tough. After an hour he reached the body inside, pulling it out from within the block. A teenage male with dark black hair laid before him. It was only then that Sahal saw the boy’s most surprising feature. A long black wing extended from the his back.
“This must be… a Fallen Angel? Is he still alive somehow?”
Sahal checked the boy’s pulse, but found nothing.
BOOM!
The room shook as the chunk of blue mineral began to vibrate with increasing levels of gusto. The mineral liquefied and flowed into the young man’s body through his mouth and nose. With a loud gasp, the young man shot up onto his feet. In shock, Sahal fell backwards, landing on his scaly backside. Then, in a shaky voice, he asked “W-who are you?”
The boy’s eyes slowly opened to reveal an attractive amber color that seemed to shine in contrast to the darkness of the cavern they were in. Then he slowly began to speak. “My name is Zyl.”
