Chapter 22.1

Chapter 22.1

Int. Parket High school – gymnasium.

It’s third period gym class. A few students play basketball, while a few are walking laps around the basketball court, and the remaining few students are sitting on the bleachers, either on their phones or listening to music. Amongst these students five teenage girls are flocked together speaking their minds. Each girl has a varying hair color. Ren (Nora’s classmate) is also sitting a few levels above them but reading a horror book to himself.

“I heard someone say that they saw them together again yesterday!” The blonde girl states.

“No way, really? What if they are dating?” the brunette girl adds.

“Girl please, you’re just saying that because you want to date her.” A girl with blue hair antagonizes the brunette girl.

“What? No, I don’t!” The brunette says defensively.

“You’ve been drooling over Faith since you came to this school.” The blue hair girl continues.

“She’s right you know.” The blonde girl piles on.

“Shut up, and don’t act like you don’t cling to Faith for popularity! Be your own person, bitch!” The brunette girl retaliates.

“Thank you! Someone finally says it” The blonde girl switches up.

Amid the toxic back and forth between “friends” there sits a girl shorter than the rest, with black hair and a gloomy look on her face. She’s been quiet the whole time, but she has been gripping her jacket’s sleeve tighter. Eventually the girl with blue hair notices how quiet the black-haired girl is being.

“You okay Renea? You haven’t said anything the whole gym period.” the blue-haired girl asks.

Each girl directs their attention directly to Renae (Black haired girl), but she keeps her eyes forward. Not attempting eye contact with any of the girls surrounding her.

“I just hope she isn’t trying to throw us away” Renae expresses.

“What?! No way! Faith wouldn’t do that. She’s way to nice and – “

“And what?! She’s been literally and figuratively leaving us behind… Leaving me behind. I think action speak louder than words.” Renae expresses herself while looking down at her own feet.

“She has a point. We’ve all seen how Faith acts around Nora. It’s like she’s a completely different person. Also, there’s those rumors of people seeing Faith at that video game building with some boy. We need to start thinking about the idea that Faith either stopped liking us or she never liked us to begin with.” The Brunette girl says.

“You people are crazy! Faith wouldn’t do something like that. Not to us, we were her friends first.” The blonde girl says.

“Like that means anything,” the blue haired girl refutes.

“Of course it does!” the blonde girl says.

“It’s not like we’ve known each other our whole lives. How many of us had different friends before finding this group?” the blue haired girl laid out.

There’s a moment of silence between the group.

“Sorry didn’t mean to kill the mood.” The blue haired girl apologizes.

“Don’t be. If anything happens to this group, it won’t be your fault. It’ll be Faith’s.” Renae States. “I’ll give her time to explain herself, but I want to hear it from her mouth. I want to her to say why she abandoned me.”

“Hey, wait, didn’t Ren over there have a back and forth with Nora before?” The brunette girl asks.

“Yeah, at least that’s what I heard. It was from that weird girl that always wears a jacket. Her name is Cynthia or something close to that.” The blue haired girl adds.

“The exact same! She said she was walking down the hallway to class when she heard them having a heated interaction between classes.”

“Hey Ren!” the blonde girl calls out.

“What do you birds want?” Ren coldly replies.

“Easy there, backpack kid.” The brunette girl retorts.

“What is it? I want to read my book.” Ren continues.

“Why are you and Nora on bad terms?” The brunette girl asks.

“Why do you care?” Ren counters.

“Just asking, damn.”

“Well don’t”

“Don’t be like that.”

“Fine. Let’s just say she fucked me over a few years ago.” Ren finally answers.

“How so?” The brunette girl asks.

“Don’t worry about it.” Ren says while pulling his book back to his face.

The brunette girl’s reaction changes to show she’s fed up with Ren. She then turns back to the group.

“I wonder what Nora did to him.” The blue haired girl ponders.

“Probably broke his heart or something.” The brunette girl inquires.

“Maybe we should ask her, ourselves.” Renae says.
