Catch

Neither of the girls in the bedroom moved much for hours, except to down the pills thoughtfully left out for them, and drain the bottles of water also left for them. It was past noon by the time Alyssa finally made it out of her room, resoutedly not turning on any lights and almost killing herself and wrecking Alex's kayak as a result. If it wasn't for a sleepy, confused hand flying out to steady the kayak, it probably would have slid right off the sawhorses. “Alex! You slept on the couch?” she asked in shock, and more than a little 'how dare you'. A timid nod was her answer, as she refused to uncover half of her face, leaving a wary brown eye peering out. Alyssa clicked her tongue in disapproval, before turning the light on, wincing and hearing an accompanying groan from the couch. “Oh, quit yer whinin. You weren't even drunk last night.” she shot over her shoulder, as she set up a bun and dug some of the BBQ duck out of the fridge; Alyssa had been right in assuming it'd be delicious, and though she'd rather just nibble on bread, Alex had informed her at the beginning of the semester that protein helps with hangovers. And the duck was full of protein, even though it turned her stomach slightly. Something was bothering Alyssa as she nibbled on the slider, though. And it wasn't just the fresh bruise that was brobably forming on her shin. Alex never slept in this late. Even if a hangover had laid her out, she would drag herself to her feet to take a run, even it was just around the block and not the however many miles she normally did. A quick peek found the water bottle that Alex always used drained and sitting on the counter, so she had gone on a run at least. Maybe she had just laid down for a nap? They were all up until three or four in the morning afterall, and even if she wasn't drunk, that was still a long night. There it was again, that feeling that she'd forgotten something. It was nothing new, she always got forgetful when she was drunk. She wandered to the bathroom to wash her face, and stared at the first aid kit that was out on the counter. Oh.

Alex squinted up at the imposing form of Alyssa with her good eye, holding the blanket over her face. “Show me your eye.” Alyssa ordered, hands on her hips, but Alex just shook her head. “Don't worry; it's not bad.” she promised, though it wasn't very reassuring to her roomate. “Alex.” her roommate growled, and Alex hesitated, fiddling with the blanket, before slowly pulling it back. “It's not as bad as it coulda been; its on my cheekbone at least. And I got ice on it nearly immediately.” she spoke over the hissing of her roommate “Did you report it at least?” alyssa asked, as she gingerly probed the injury, to slight complaints from Alex. “Yeah. Called it in last night, went down today for an official police report. Woulda went last night, but it took time for the bruise to bloom – ow!” Alex yelped, throwing herslef almost off the couch as Alyssa looked shocked and guilty. That hadn't come from the bruise; she had seen a dust ball in Alex's hair and had went to pull it out. “They pulled my hair too. Hardcore.” Alex told her, gingerly rubbing her scalp.

“How'd the meat do? It was on the smoker for what, seven, eight hours? Did it get dry or anything?” Alyssa asked, and Alex smiled, thinking of the pan of perfect venison bacon in the fridge “Nope. The water pan nearly ran dry, and the chips were nearly gone, but it turned out really great! I can slice you off some for breakfast, if you want.” she suggested, as Alyssa sidled past the kayak to plop herself down on the couch and pull Alex's legs into her lap before turning the TV on. “Raincheck. I had some of that Duck for breakfast. It's delicious; the recipe is defintely a keeper.” She praised, making Alex blush and beam. “I should hope so! I already canned up like sixteen pints of it!” she said, making them both think of the full shelves, Alex with pride, Alyssa with exasperation “Lulu's definitely taking some home with her when she comes. Dylan'll be driving her up and back this weekend. I hope this is gone by then...” Alex told her, before gingerly poking at the bruise. Alyssa very much doubted that, seeing as it was friday already, but Alex seemed to already know, grimancing before getting up “Well, I'm going to put some heat on it and try the bacon. Then I have class and I'll take the kayak down afterwards. You have any plans?” alex asked as she strode into the kitchen, pulling out the slab of bacon and carefully cutting off two strips off the short side, after setting a pan over the gas burner. After only a second for the pan to heat up, she threw them on in, and litened to the hiss. “drag my sorry carcass to math at 3. other than that, nothing.” Alyssa informed her, and watched as she microwaved a small rice bag before holding it to her face. “Okay. Make sure Katie eats when she gets up, okay? Anything of mine is free game.” she waved a hand towards her cupboard, though Alyssa knew most were ingredients and not edible on their own. Still, there were some jars of soup and chili, and fruit in the basket so she wouldn't starve. Alex made a loud, vaugley inappropriate noise as she bit into the bacon “So good!” she proclaimed, before wolfing it all down and bolting out the door. A look at the clock told her exactly why; it was nearly one o clock, and her class started at 1:15. 'Typical' Alyssa thought while rolling her eyes and settling in. judging by the steady snoring coming from the bedroom, she still had at least an hour before Katie emerged. Her favorite show had just came on when the door swung open. A look at the clock confirmed that it was still an hour and forty-five minutes too early for Alex. She wasn't kept in the suspense for long, as a brown-haired head poked out, eagerly looking from kitchen to living room before stilling. 'Oh great' Alyssa thought sarcastically, heart sinking, as she saw the girl frown. Of course Lucifer would decide to come up early. “Where's Alex?” she demanded, hands on her hips as she let the door slam shut behind her, making Alyssa wince at the noise. Her head was hurting, her stomach was still unsettled, and – worst of all – she wasn't even going to get to watch her favorite show. An evil thought occurred to her and she made a shushing noise “You're going to wake her.” she stated softly, and watched in triumph as Lucifer's face lit up as she made a beeline to the bedroom, leaving her bag by the door. Alyssa waited with baited breath, and wasn't disappointed, as Lucifer barged back out, looking extremely indignant. “Who is that?” she demanded, jabbing a hand towards Alex's bed, which was currently filled with decidedly not Alex. Alyssa winced as the door bounced off the wall, leaving a mark on the paint, and once more at the volume. She could hear a slight scuffling, and the snores had stopped; Katie was now awake.

“Just Katie.” Alyssa stated in a faux casual tone, making Lucifer fume. Katie poked her head out, still looking groggy. “Morning Queenie. Alex said mi casa es tu casa.” Alyssa greeted, watching as a thumbs up was flashed before Katie downed the medicine left for her, and started towards the kitchen. Lucifer silently fumed about being ignored, before turning to Alyssa and beginning a barrage of questions about Katie – who was she, why was she here, and most of all, why was she in Alex's bed? Alyssa ignored the questions, before pointing out “She's right there, Lucy. Ask her yourself.” She was right there, all right, and unamused, even as she cooked some of the bacon and scrambled some eggs. “I would think that you would be concered with some random girl sleeping in your bedroom.” Lucifer sniffed, before rounding on Katie, but before she could even open her mouth, Katie cut her off. “I'm not some random girl, thank you very much. I spend just as much time here as they do – if Alex didn't have all her crap up here, I'd probably have moved in by now.” Lucifer's face started turning red as she was dressed down. “I mean, me and Alex do practically everything together! Workouts, practices, meets, classes, studying... If you think me sleeping in her bed is bad, you should see some of the other things we've done!” Katie snorted, probably thinking of the infamous rowing team parties. That was not what Lucifer was thinking, as her face turned a deep red, mouth gaping but nothing coming out. Satisfied, Katie plopped down next to Alyssa, and began eating. Before Lucifer could start going, going so far as to take a deep breath in preparation, the door swung open again, and Alex came through the door, nearly tripping on Lucifer's bag.

“Lulu! You're early!” she stated in surprize, though she sounded overjoyed as she dropped her bag to hug the other girl “Ah, you're early.” Katie noted, eyeing her suspiciously. “Calm your tits, mom. The professor didn't show up.” Alex replied good-naturedly, to which Katie rolled her eyes “If you actually bothered to check your email, that wouldn't happen, you walnut.” Alyssa was relieved Alex didn't metion the red face of her Lulu. Somehow, she thought teasing the girl would land her in Alex's bad books. “What happened to your face?” Lulu asked, as she pulled back and noticed the vivid bruise. Alex looked alarmed as she realized that there was no hope of hiding it now. “I uh, got hit. I ruined the guy who did it's day, though.” she stated, shifting uncomfortably as Lulu stroked it gently. “does it hurt?” she murmurred, leaning close to inspect it, but Alex twitched and took a step back “Nah, Nah, it's fine. I was going to go fishing, but Let me just take this on down and you can chose what we'll do.” Alex suggested, givng her kayak a loving pat. Lulu's face lit up as she triped over herself to refuse “No, we can go fishing! It's been awhile since I last went!” she offered, and Alex shot her a skeptical look, “There's a reason for that, you know. You spent the whole last time” Alex stopped herself abruptly, looking deeply uncomfortable “You didn't like it.” she finished lamely. “I promise not to complain this time! Besides, you'll bait my hook for me, won't you?” she asked, batting her eyes cutely. Alex stared at her suspiciously, before shrugging

“Whatever. Let me drop Tyler a text, and I'll see if he wants to go fishing.” she grabbed her bag before going to the bedroom. As soon as she was out of the room, Katie got up and got real close to Lulu, muttering something in her ear before she was pushed away. Alyssa's eyebrows rose at she looked between them, first at Katie, who walked to the ktichen like nothing was wrong, then to Lucifer, who was glaring holes in her back Before something could come of it, Alex re-emerged “Good news; he said he'd show us that place today. He has a rowboat n everything, so he'll just pick us up here and take us.” she annouced, before going to the spare room and beginning the lengthy process of choosing what equipment to bring.
