Chapter 1: Sweet Dreams

Chapter 1: Sweet Dreams

The streets buzzed with excitement, It was rumoured that a hunting party caught an Aurora Whale. The kingdom always celebrated the domestication of one of these flying beasts as they were needed for the transportation between the various plateaus of life that littered the landscape without having to venture near the bottom where monsters and other dangers lurked. Suddenly the crowd became hushed. Something was wrong, a beam of brilliant light seemed to inch closer and closer. More people began to realise that it was going towards them. Then… the dreadful silence was ended by a deafening bang. The beam of light collided with the cliffs of the plateau. Everyone was in a state of panic. The cliffs that so reliably protected them from the beasts and dangers of the ground began lowering slowly. Exasperated citizens ran to get their families safe. The rich and powerful boarded their Goliath Bugs and Aurora Whales then fled to Orcs Hall for safety. Meanwhile the 2 million others were left to their doom.

Fiore woke up drenched in sweat, shivering. His soulless eyes contrasted with his Red hair that was glistening in the morning sun. “The same dream huh” muttered Gus. His chubby mushroom body seemingly not suited to his sharp green eyes, He was wearing his tattered robes he stole from a monastery and had an X shape scar in the middle of his chest barely visible peeking out from his undersized robe. “Yeah, I can't believe that was 5 years ago.”, “I still can't believe it.”. “How come?” Gus replied, “You told me you guys had heard of entire Civilisations getting this same treatment when they did not bring tribute to-”. “Those damn Elf's” Angrily Fiore began to perform his daily chores. As much as he hated the fact that he was stuck in this wasteland he had to accept the truth. There were now only 6000 Survivors living out of the 2 million. The constant attacks by Low orcs, Sand Scorpions, Drome Falcons and the lack of water had killed many. He was lucky enough to live in the Warped forest, one of the only areas with water in the old plateau area. He worked there as a caregiver at the Orphanage under Gus’s tutelage caring for the many kids who got orphaned from constant attacks and drought. Before he could dwell on his situation any longer Gus beckoned him saying “Kid look what I got for you!”
