With the assurance of the first few trades, larger amounts started to be sent. The rebel forces that have been at a standstill with the empire have also begun to win a few small victories.
The emperor sat in his study, looking at the report of a few losses by the fleet stationed near the barren galaxy. Usually he wouldn't care about the tug of war that went on between the two. It was enough for the general in charge of the fleet to deal with, but something stuck out to him when he received the report.
The captain that faced off against the rebels wrote in his report 'The equipment of the rebels seems to have improved in quality, showing signs of outclassing our own'.
This captain had served on the front lines for centuries. He knew very well the level and abilities of the rebels, but now he has noticed an improvement.
Emperors of all ages have always had some level of suspicion. He knew the rebels had invented newer and more powerful weaponry, but they still lacked in terms of defensive capability, but now they seemed to have shown signs of changing this weakness.
It wasn't hard for him to guess that they had gotten their hands on some azandium. However he looked through all trade reports and hadn't seen any losses from the shipments. He also checked through the management of the few azandium mining planets searching for any minister in charge helping in smuggling it out. Although he found that many of the mines were not as airtight and secure as he thought, it wasn't enough to where the rebels could upgrade their battleships with it.
So now he's forced to wonder how they managed to get their hands on it. Though it didn't take him long before his mind flashed on what he had said at the meeting a while ago.
"Those two omegas" he gasped.
He had forgotten about them for the most part. Although they had caused a loss of face for the empire, but he really didn't care much about their actions. After all, he has to deal with the affairs of an entire empire, and two runaway lovers aren't worthy of his attention, even if they have created something the empire promised to.
Now he wondered if they had any involvement. He could understand their motives for doing so. He wasn't unaware of the actions the various ministers made after he voiced his opinion. As long as it didn't touch his bottom line, he would close one eye and ignore it. If they were aware of the consequences of being caught, then it's easy to see why they would be willing to ally themselves with the rebels. They can trade the one thing the rebels are desperate for, and in return they enjoy some peace and quiet while the rebels start causing the government more trouble.
Stolen novel; please report.
The emperor had to say, he was very impressed with the cunning of these two omegas. It is unfortunate they have crossed his bottom line, otherwise he would probably make an exception, and give them a position in the government.
The emperor called his assistant, "Contact General Lark and Minister Gunn".
After half an hour, the holograms of the two alphas appeared in front of the emperor. Both saluted the moment they saw the emperor.
The emperor waved them, telling them to sit. After seeing them seated the emperor spoke.
"General Lark there is a very real possibility the rebels have obtained access to a large amount of azandium".
General Lark narrowed his eyes when hearing what the emperor said. His usually cold face showing a solemn expression.
"If that's the case, your majesty, then giving them time to upgrade their battleships would be detrimental. Would I have your majesty's permission to use a little more force?" General Lark asked calmly.
The emperor knew that delaying time would increase the advantage the rebels had against the third fleet, under the command of General Lark.
" Yes. Proceed as you see fit", the emperor acquiesced.
General Lark saluted his majesty before disconnecting from the call. The emperor than turned to the female alpha's hologram.
"Minister Gunn, I need you to figure out where the trade between the rebels and their supplier is taking place. Check the warp points for any suspicious activity".
"Yes, your majesty. I'll check immediately", she replied before saluting and disconnecting.
The emperor left the task to the General and the minister of transport. He didn't want to see a civil war at the moment. With the foreign threats he faced being so troublesome, he really didn't have the patience for internal conflict.
Arel watched the news, reporting the heated actions of the rebels and the government. She and Sile looked at each other.
"They definitely know we have azandium. Otherwise they wouldn't be so quick to launch an offensive", Sile said nonchalantly.
"They should be checking the warp points thoroughly from now on. How do you want to continue?" Arel asked.
Sile thought about it. If they were to intercept the drones, it would be a problem if the rebels couldn't cause as much chaos as they expected.
"How about using distractions. We'll send drones through all warp points, at various times? That way they'll be running around like headless flies". Sile pondered.
"Well add some empty drones to the ones going through to trade, so at least if they have a patrol there, at least they can be used to confuse them". Arel agreed.
When minister Gunn saw the sudden increase in all the warp points, she felt as if she was going to blow a fuse.
'How blatant are you?' she thought.
She ordered patrol teams to wait outside the warp points, but because manpower was scarce, there were too few for when the drones really showed up. When one of the patrol teams were talking greedily about prying open one of the drones to see if there was anything worth taking, they were faced with the same fate as the researchers that had tried to do so before. An explosion left the remaining debris of the small spacecraft scattered close to the warp point, as the drones with the real packages had continued to fly to the changed drop off coordinates.
