Chapter 4 - Stand on your Ground

Chapter 4 - Stand on your Ground

The knights on the grassland lingered throughout the night, standing before a female silhouette floating in front of the bright full moon. Nobody knew how long she stayed up there as the knights had found her as they arrived. The knights positioned themselves in a formation of an arrowhead pointing towards the woman. And they were in groups, and each group had two knights. But at the two ends of the position, an alone knight was carrying a backpack. The tall knight was at the vertex of the arrangement together with his companion. There were five groups in total on the field, but another two groups stayed between the forest and the grasslands. And all of the knights stared at her.

The knight on the left side of the tallest one whispered, “Sire, do you still not hear it?”

He spoke deep and slow and whispered, “I hear nothing from it.”

As the gale continued to blow, a sharp, sudden, more powerful wave of wind exploded around the woman. As it headed towards the knights, the tall man quickly clasped his sword, tightening and revealing the veins on his right arm. The grasses in front of the knights bent back and forth, and the shockwave hit them. No one flinched, and everyone remained calm in their positions. Suddenly, the strong winds ceased. The grasses stopped swaying, and the waters became serene. The knights felt they got the attention and aggression from the woman and thought she would begin doing something. He asked, “What is your command, Sire?”

“Stand higher,” he spoke, and his knights heard. The knights stood boldly with their chests outwards as they gripped their swords. But nothing happened afterward for four minutes, and a minute later, the woman fell and crashed into the waters.

The night continued as the moon started to move, but it progressed faster to position itself from where it should be. The knights did nothing and waited almost an hour for her to appear. Then at the shore, they saw the woman creepily crawling with her front body down to the wet sands. She used her hand to pull her body while her legs pushed. Her movements were not synchronous, so she crawled slightly to her right. Her messy hair got wet and turned straight with some curls. The skin of her arms was pale, the muscles forced tight, the veins bulging, and the bones were revealing. Suddenly, she stopped. Even her hand, having a mini tremor, was halfway through from touching the sand. And the swash from the sea kept sweeping over her. Her jet-black hair swept, and it revealed her bare back. The skin of her back sank into her bones, and every bone was visible.

She smacked her palm to the sands and began groaning long and loud in pain for a few minutes. And then she slowly raised her torso, and her arms and legs were trembling, supporting her weight. After that, she continued crawling while groaning, but she was heading to her left and then in a straight line. Midway, she stopped and dropped her body.

The knights remained cautious and heard her inhaling and exhaling quick and deep breaths from her mouth and nose. They watched her head slowly moving around repeatedly on the sands. And then, she slightly raised her face from the sands and started to giggle and laugh. Swiftly, she yelled, “I am here! I am here! I am here! I am here! I am here!” She kept yelling until her right forearm began to shake hysterically. She angrily squeezed the forearm with her left hand and screamed, “Rrrraa! Stooop! Stoooop! Stoop!” She stood up lamely, and her hair covered her entire appearance down to her lower legs. She slammed her hand on the ground multiple times. Her forearm was still shaking, so she pushed her forearm down to the sand. She choked it like a neck and knelt on her arm while growling. Eventually, the tremors from her forearm stopped, but her fingers were still trembling, so she smacked her face on her hand. Less than a minute later, she cried in pain and raised her head. There were two sets of bite marks with blood on the palm. She slowly let go of her hand and knee. And her hand and forearm were forced to tighten their muscles, and they stopped shaking. Then she giggled and stood up straight. And while standing up, her hair moved and snaked on the surface of her skin, forming a one-piece of clothing. It covered her neck, torso, upper arms, and thighs; thus, it was a dress. It had multiple slits as her hair was not enough in length and number. The cuffs from her upper arms and the skirt had curls from the end of her hair. She still had hair from her, but it got shortened, and the tip of her hair touched her shoulders. As she made herself closer to the knights, they saw her visibly. Her eyes had a white iris on her left eye with a black pupil. And there was another tinier black pupil present below the original pupil. For her right eye, she had a black iris with a white, little pupil. And she had dark circles under her eyes like she had never slept. While she was giggling, she abruptly stopped and glanced at the grassland. The silence was eerie because the sounds the knights heard were fading away. The chirps of the insects, the breeze moving through the grasses, and the swashes from the sea were silent. It left some knights to wonder in confusion. Everyone locked their eyes on her, and her eyes were wide open. And from the vision of the knights, the surrounding area from the woman was turning dark. The darkness was slowly moving towards her. The knights blinked their eyes and moved their heads forward with brows squeezed. When it touched her, the knights instantly reacted to something terrifying in front of them. They shrieked and flinched in fright and surprise and most moved away from their positions. Many walked back, either their swords dropped or held, with their arms covering their faces. Some swung their swords. And only four people lost their balance and fell.

The knight beside the tall one was one of the four. He stood up and let out a deep breath. He said, “What was that?!”

The tall knight was one of the few to remain still in position, but he had his face turned away. He turned his head again and looked at the woman menacingly. The woman instantly screamed in a deep voice with her mouth wide open. And she ran towards the knights limping, but suddenly, she traveled so fast that she disappeared, leaving a shockwave. But the tall knight noticed her movement on where she was heading. So, he dashed to his right. From a distance, he was already at his reaching point. He had his arm and sword pulled to his back, and when he reached the right place, the knight stopped and swung his sword horizontally. And the grasses in front of him cut and bent. She would have been hit and sent her flying to the sea, but she was too fast. She passed by his attack, flew towards a knight, and crashed. But with the amount of speed, the knight went with the force, and they flew into the Crown Forest. The tall knight quickly moved and went to the forest before the knight of the partner looked behind and shouted, “Vouyeg!” The knight, who was missing a partner, looked at the knight partnered with the tall one. The knight ordered, “Stay!” So, he stayed.

The two groups, positioned between the forest and grassland, saw something fly into the forest in a flash, then a strong wind passed by them. They were surprised, so they looked in front to check and saw the tall knight running towards the forest. They knew what was happening immediately and went inside the forest.

In the Crown Forest, Vouyeg and the woman flew above the ground. The back of Vouyeg was hitting the branches, twigs, and leaves from the upside-down trees. The woman had her hands on his head and feet on his waist. Her dirty, sharp, damaged fingernails and toenails pierced his skin, causing him to bleed.

Vouyeg was able to react quickly during his second encounter with the woman. He had his sword impaled into her mouth, and the cross guard of the sword thumped her teeth and lips. His other hand was choking her neck side way. She was gargling her blood as she was still screaming. Her blood flowed down to her chin and rained at Vouyeg’s face.

While clenching his teeth, Vouyeg watched her mouth slowly widen. There, he widened his eyes as he saw another tongue from her upper palate and two pairs of teeth, human teeth, and carnivorous teeth. The carnivorous teeth developed on the gums, but they were proportional to her as a human. And her mouth had particles of sand.

Vouyeg was not surprised by her bodily oddities, but he had an intuition that a mouth like hers would bite. Then unexpectedly, she stopped screaming and flicked her head towards his face for a bite. Scared, he flinched, but he remained in control. He slid his hand to the cross guard to thrust her away effectively. He did that as well while pushing her neck back. But his arms trembled as his strength was not enough, but he delayed her bite. Despite being weaker than her, he grunted intensely and fought hard. And as her mouth went near his face, they traveled deeper into the forest. Then Vouyeg’s back hit an enormous trunk and left a small dent behind him. He felt intense pain in his back, and his body forced him to hold his breath. But he was durable and tenacious that he continued pushing her head away, and they fell. The woman fell downward first from the unbalanced weight.

The tall knight and his companions were running towards where Vouyeg flew. But he was ahead of them. Then he felt a breeze and heard a muffled crash in front of him at a distance. It made him stop as he saw something. So, he squinted and saw a weak scattered light like the sunlight shone through trees. And he felt a waft again. After that, he heard rustling sounds and branches and twigs breaking. He sensed someone flying at high speed in his direction, but it was heading above.

Outside the Crown Forest, the woman flew out from the top diagonally.

The knight sensed the individual and looked as his head slowly moved upwards. He slowly held his sword tight and forcefully stomped his foot forward. Then the yellow pupils in his eyes turned lime-green, and they shone and twinkled.

The woman’s eyes widened in surprise, and she looked at the location of the tall knight. Her face began to twitch as she got mad.

The knights, who remained outside the Crown Forest, witnessed the forest and the grasses sucked in for a moment. And they felt a slight pull from their body coming from the forest. Then an enormous blow of wind exploded inside, sending leaves, twigs, and fireflies to the sky. The knights felt the strong wind, and out from the forest came a shockwave of a massive, horizontal crescent slash headed upwards at great speed. But within the attack, there was a tall, flat, vertical structure of steel coming from the forest. It launched like a fisherman casting out his fish hook. It was continually extending, but the higher it went, got thinner.

As the woman was free-falling in a projectile, she screamed in different pitches of her voice. And the attack of the tall knight was accurate and precise that his attack and the woman collided. The steel pillar, the tip was sharp and pointy, hit and pierced her chest first. Then the shockwave hit and passed through her. She was not pulled out by the shockwave because out from her back, in multiple pathways, came out the steel in spikes, locking her. Blood flowed down to the pillar and her dress, but it seeped into it. She didn’t flinch or react to the pain but continued to scream angrily. Then in an area of a wide circumference, which she was at the center, a powerful, unknown force pushed away around her. It flattened the forest and grasses to the ground. And it covered the ground with broken twigs, branches, and leaves. The knights outside the Crown Forest flinched and covered their faces as gales, loud sounds, and debris from the forest hit them. And the force was continuous and progressive in power. They observed what was happening and looked at the pillared steel slowly slanting backward. The knight, who was the partner of the tall knight, moved his eyes up and down repeatedly, checking and realizing what was going to happen next. He yelled, “Knights! Grip your legs to the grounds and hearken mine commands!”

And they readied themselves by slightly bending their knees, and their body stopped moving beside their chest breathing.

The steel pillar began falling forward, and the force affecting the circumference of the ground moved as she went. It slammed the head of the woman on the grassland, and it created a loud crash.

The force flattened the grassland, but not the knights. It pushed them down on their knees, their fours, or flat on the ground. Suddenly, the force stopped and dissipated. The commanding knight was in his fours and shook his head left and right multiple times while blinking quickly and breathing heavily. Without a break, he stood up but lost his balance and walked backward. He almost fell but returned his proper posture. He went and looked closer to the crash site of the woman. After he let out a deep breath from his mouth, he walked toward the woman and yelled, “Stand up! Abandon and make way! And vertex the enemy from a distance!”

The groups of knights heard and recovered. They stood up, but someone shouted, “Give me aid! Laq’Lery is not responding!” And from the base of the formation, the knights with backpacks rushed into his position. And the remaining knight left and followed the command of their commander.

They positioned themselves identically from the previous formation, but the woman was the point. And they were far away from the woman.

And the commanding knight went closer to the crash site. He was careful, and he observed the area. He saw the woman lying, and she slowly stood up with her head dangling to her chest. She grunted as she held her jaw and raised it to look in front. Then she screamed angrily in her deep voice while her neck and shoulders were moving like fluid. But her scream had intervals where there were no sounds or deep, soft voices. Seconds later, she was quiet and let go of her jaw, and her head didn’t fall. She looked at the steel pillar impaled into her and grabbed it. She pulled it in one go, and the spikes bent. She freed herself. When she looked back at her front, the knight was behind her with his right arm and sword raised. Then he hit the side of her head with the blade. Her head was slashed and pushed. She almost fell, and immediately, she retaliated by swinging her arms to her back. And her attack was like a whip.

The knight was already ahead of this situation as he planned it, so he jumped backward after attacking. He missed her attack, but the strength she put on her swing was so powerful that he was redirected far away to his right. When he landed, he was surprised and slightly fearful. He said quietly, “Woah, woah, woah.”

The woman looked behind with an angry face and saw the knight. And the knight bravely moved toward her and shouted, “Come here!” The woman ignored and walked limping towards the flattened forest, screaming. And the knight chased her and yelled, “Nooo!”

The remaining knights on the battlefield reacted as she started running immediately. They ran towards the forest. From the group with two knights, one of them sheathed his sword, and they stopped running midway because there was a camp nearby with supplies. The knight, with no weapons, grabbed a bow beside a bag and an arrow inside. He ran shortly forward and said, “Grab the rope!” The knight aimed the bow and arrow diagonally toward the side of the group with one knight. While his partner just sheathed his sword and went into the bag that contained the rope, the knight with the bow and arrow shouted, “Arrrooow!”

The other knight heard and looked. He saw the arrow shot that headed in front of him. He ran as fast as he could while the woman was catching up as she began sprinting. And when the woman was a few meters away from the rope, she was about to cross over rope. But the knight was just in time and took the rope. Before the woman would pass by the rope, the three knights pulled the rope straight, blocking her path diagonally. And the one knight ran towards the sea and pulled the rope in a flick. The rope caught her between her teeth, and the pull from the knight slammed the woman to the ground.

The woman stopped screaming, and the group of two knights ran straight forward to align the rope with the other knight. But as they ran for a couple of seconds, she stood up and ran again. Immediately, the one knight shouted, “Heeey!” as he pulled the rope. The two knights noticed her off guard because of how fast she recovered. They pulled the rope quickly, and it caught her stomach. She continued to run, and they began to tug her. But their tug somewhat slowed her down. However, the knights were grunting and struggling as they got dragged. And they slowly moved to the center.

The commanding knight continued running and appeared behind the woman. He held his sword with his hands and impaled the blade into her torso, specifically her heart. The push was so strong that her chest exploded forward from the force when the cross guard hit her back. Her wounds slid out from the sword. And before she flew off, the knight raised her and threw her towards the sea as he turned around. The throw was strong, and she soared. And he said, “Distaance!”

The knights let go of their rope and readied their swords as they unsheathed them. And they moved behind the commanding knight and farther apart from each other.

The woman adjusted her body and landed on her hands and feet. And she looked at the knight with a blank face. The knight commander and the woman were intensely staring at each other with no expressions. Then the woman’s face shifted to anger, and she screamed, and while screaming, she disappeared into thin air, leaving a gust and total silence. And behind the commanding knight, she mysteriously pounced at him from the surface of the ground without breaking it. Her arms stretched, and her hands and her mouth were wide open. However, he sensed her and turned around with his sword swinging. A knight from a group noticed late and reacted quickly, so he shouted, “Britlwoah!”

The woman’s pounce was so fast that she had already got her fingers to the back of Britlwoah’s head. And her toenails clawed on his stomach. The sharp pain was felt by Britlwoah when her fingernails pierced and scooped out of his flesh. Britlwoah swung his sword and missed as his arm hit her hip. Then Britlwoah let go of his sword and shrieked from the pain from his head. And sword spun and flew away to the ground. Britlwoah was pushed in a distance as the force from her pounce pushed him. His feet stayed on the land, and he slowed down her momentum. Britlwoah immediately grabbed the region between the upper and lower arms and held her still. He slowed down her bite as she tried to pull his head towards her and move her chest forward. It was painful as her nails were hooked on his skin, slowly leaving a trail of gashes. Her nails scooped blood, flesh, and hair. After he stopped her momentum, he turned around and ran towards the sea as fast as he could. But the woman moved her weight to her side and tugged Britlwoah’s head, making him lose his balance. Britlwoah twisted his body unharmed and fell to the ground. He laid down while the woman was squatting on his stomach. She tried to bite him as he clasped her arms so strong that his hands squeezed into a fist without a space inside, crushing her arms into a pulp. But his doing was ineffective because the muscles of her hands remained tight. And the woman pulled her arms as she didn't mind her lower arms crushed. She continued pulling his head, scraping more of his blood and flesh from his head. Even one of his ears’ backsides was slowly going to get cut in half. She opened her mouth wide and moved her head and chest towards him. And his arms started shaking as he was sweating profusely and struggled. As his arms began bending slowly, he screamed louder as the woman got closer to his face.

Suddenly, both humerus of the woman broke from the extreme pressure of being pulled and pushed. It caused her to move forward abruptly. Britlwoah widened his eyes in surprise and quickly pulled her arms, freeing himself from her claws. But his action made him clenched his teeth because his head received deep claw wounds, halved right ear, and the corner of his left eye was damaged. Almost his face, except the center part, was flowing with blood. But he continued to fight. After he pulled her arms, he turned and changed their positions. He was on top of her, and she was on the bottom. And he was able to slam her hands to the ground and lock her. She began to struggle as she tried to move her arms. But it was pointless as the humerus were moving around and poking out inside the skin. Slowly, the woman got annoyed and screamed in his face. And her upper arms began squirming from the inside. Her screams got louder, and she shoved him upwards using her legs with her feet on his stomach. The push was so powerful that the ground she was lying on made a crater, and some small rocks, soil, and plants flew up. The grasps of Britlwoah didn’t let go, so his hands slid throughout from her hands. Her hands were mashed badly, and at the end of her fingernails squirted out blood and mash of flesh.

Britlwoah flew far up to the sky, holding his breath because of the extreme pain in his stomach.

Now, the woman was free. After she screamed, she clenched her teeth and slammed her legs to the ground. It was so powerful that the land cracked, and the cracks reached a distance from her, and the ground flew up. She let out a deep exhale from her mouth and turned silent. She relaxed, and all of her muscles softened. She continued to lie down for a while as her lower arms and hands wriggled from the inside. With her face looking upward, her eyes changed, and she looked sad. She just stared at the colorful luminous night sky with Britlwoah, stars, comets, planets, moons, suns, galaxies, and beyond. And the celestial bodies were clear and visible to the eyes.

For the whole time, the remaining knights were observing everything from a distance as they stayed in their positions readily to fight. Then they heard her crying softly and sniffing. They remained cautious, and a minute later, she stopped crying and stood up lamely. And they saw her tired, depressed, and contemplated. The woman stared at the ground, then she closed her eyes and opened them. Then the three knights dropped down immediately as a powerful invisible force pushed them to the ground. Nothing happened from the surroundings; only the knights were affected. And all of the bones from their lower body broke. One of them had their femurs slid to the lower legs, but eventually, they got broken as the force pushed them down too forcefully. They screamed in pain as they laid their upper bodies flat on the ground. And the rest of their intact bones were slowly cracking from the pressure.

Britlwoah heard their screams of agony, and with regret, he yelled as he could not do anything but fall. He said, “Jy’b’Lay! Roared! Get up!! Noooo!” as he watched her disappear in thin air without a shockwave. But he saw which direction she was heading.

The two knights, who aided and left the unconscious knight to rest, were lying and crawling on the ground. They were dragging their bags rather than worn to avoid being detected by the woman. However, she sensed them even without looking. The woman traveled towards them as she disappeared and stepped on a knight’s back. The momentum dragged the knight’s body across the ground until it slowed down and stopped. Then she stepped out from his body and looked at his head. She slammed her foot on his head, and her foot sank shallow into his broken skull and brain. She pulled her bloody foot out and sensed the other knight who stood up with a sword. He prepared himself. Again, she disappeared and appeared in front of him with a fist going towards him. The knight could not react faster. So, he backed away while he held his sword from both ends. But she was too speedy that her knuckles punched his lower jaw before he raised and put his sword towards her. She destroyed his jaw and completely smashed it into pieces until her fist hit the throat. The punch was powerful that sent him flying towards the Crown Forest. As he crashed near to the pile of branches and leaves, Britlwoah finally crashed to the ground. He was in pain and was breathing heavily, but he stood up weakly.

Then the woman disappeared again and appeared flying in front of Britlwoah with her arms stretched towards him. Her hand was wide open, and as the palm got closer to his face, Britlwoah saw her palm slowly getting darker and blacker. But then she stopped instantly as her body shortly rocked back and forth. And her hand didn’t reach Britlwoah’s head. So, she got mad and opened her eyes wide. She clenched her hand in a snap. It was so powerful that an explosion of a shockwave came out from it. It sent Britlwoah towards the forest, and after he crashed to the ground, he saw a steel pillar split in half on top of him. And both of them quickly attached. The woman looked in front of her to the end of the pillar. And she saw a dark figure holding the handle of the sword as the blade was the steel pillar. It was the tall knight standing on the pile of the branches and leaves of the Crown Forest. His lime-green eyes were like an animal reflected by light at night. So, she screamed in a deep voice, and the pillar extended at high speed towards the sea. After it reached its distance, the spikes, around her torso, rapidly went inside her body, and the pillar stopped stretching. The woman was launched away and crashed into the waters. And the pillar returned to its place.

From the sea, an enormous shockwave exploded that separated the waters away. And the woman was there in midair, but then she fell to the sands and corals. She was standing there with an invisible dome that set the waters apart. The invisible force reached the land as she saw the grassland. However, the tall knight was already standing there with his shining and twinkling menacing eyes.

And the woman responded with a louder scream. The moment she released her yell, a powerful shockwave blasted around her, pushing the waters and sands farther than ever. And the shout threw gales of sands and rocks at the knight. It made him close his eyes, but he stood still without a slightest of moving backward. Her scream was for a short moment, and she was quiet after that. Then the tall knight opened his eyes, and they continued to stare at each other. The waters from the sea created big waves that headed towards her to fill what she put away. And when it reached her, the waters consumed her and went to the swash zone. The tall knight remained still until the sea calmed down for minutes. After that, he looked and turned on his back. He saw more knights on the grassland and birds flying around. The reserved knights headed to all the injured knights as the birds flew above them to signal. And they began to treat and put them into stable condition. Some knights surrounded the area to guard. And there were areas where bright lights lit up as the knights began to do surgery and resuscitation. Some knights sprayed something around them as bugs gathered towards the light. The tall knight walked with a limped foot while holding and carrying his sword with one hand. He was quiet and expressionless, and he walked alone in his path. He watched the lights and heard rumbling sounds like a pump. And almost an hour later, he saw one of them slowly dimming. And the tall knight began walking towards the dying light. While walking, the fireflies reached him and filled the grassland.

At the dimmed place, there was a knight beside the short lamp post and two other knights on the ground, each beside a body. One of the knights looked devastated and stressed as he threw the forceps and scalpel on the tray with bones, blood, needle and sutures. He brushed his forehead to his hair with his bloody surgical gloves and held his head as he locked his hands. He closed his eyes and pushed his head downward. And the other knight heard someone walking behind him, so he looked back and saw the tall knight. He stood up and gave way.

The tall knight saw a knight on the ground and the surgeon. He looked at the knight beside the lamp post and said, "Give him rest."

"Yes, Sire," he said as he bowed his head and walked to the surgeon. He went behind and said, "Come, let's get a better place." They left and went off.

The tall knight gently placed his sword on the ground and sat beside the dead body. He looked at the knight's face, which had the lower jaw damaged and the neck opened with two tubes inside.

"We will remain here until the moon closes its eyes. And when the sun wakes up, we will be at our homes to rest. But I shall cortège for Ael'Ven. For now, reconstruct his figure like God and us," he said, then looked at the knight standing beside him, "And give his family a white dove."

“Yes, Sire,” he said and left. And the tall knight remained there watching over Ael'Ven.

Back in the Gravedom Kingdom, the whole place was dark as everyone was asleep. There were no lights around the area except for fireflies. But at the castle, some windows had their lights on. And at the towers, there were two thick ropes attached to them. And they were slightly apart from each other. On the rope, a child was running in barefoot. She had long white hair and was swaying in one direction non-stop from the wind. And she was wearing a white dress over her long pajamas. While running to the other side of the tower, she stopped, looked, and turned her body at the forest. She was curious as she titled her head left and right, and suddenly a gale hit her and pushed her. She yelped and fell backward. She moved her arms around rapidly to balance herself, but it was impossible. So, she turned around and held the rope as she swung back and forth. While hanging on the rope, she turned around again at the forest and said, “Hmmm, it’s windy tonight.”
