Part 1
“Alright then. Young Master, before we begin our first lesson, I’m sure you understand the theory of magic, correct?”
“I read about it all in the Magical Textbook.”
Adjusting his glasses, Radyn the Head Butler stood in front of me and asked me that question.
We were in my room, my new room to be exact.
It’s n-n-ot like… I de-destroyed the other one. Okay?
My room was furnished all in polished wood, it looked nice. Everything was replaced with special note for the table, the table looked different.
Apparently, Radyn ordered for a specialised table for my room.
It was rectangular in length instead of the square table I used to have. It was long enough for my 5 year old body to lie down and still have room to measure for more length.
On it were worksheets and books regarding magic.
Beside the table stood Radyn, he wore his usual butler style clothes.
The only thing different about him was his glasses.
It’s scaring me.
“I see, but I’ll reiterate what you should know this lesson. After that I’ll review your practical spells and skills before moving onto the real material next lesson. You’ll be given a three day break each week. Is that understood?”
“Yes sir.”
In class, you would always have to refer to your teacher as Sir, or if the teacher was female then Mrs or Miss.
Despite Radyn being a servant of this household, the rule still applies.
“Good, then. Before I start teaching, do you have any questions?”
“Yes! Where does mana come from?”
“Mana comes from natural living things, mostly from plants than mammals. That’s why healing and mana potions are mostly made from herbs, because they contain higher traces of mana than living creatures.”
“If that’s true then is it possible to make potions with living creatures?”
“…That’s possible. Although it’s not as effective as herb-made potions.”
Radyn seemed a little bit troubled after hearing my question, looking back at my self a few seconds ago I would be too.
After answering that, Radyn clasped his hands.
“Then, is that all the questions you want to ask?”
“No, but I read in a book that some places fundamentally have more magic than other places. What’s an example of that?”
“I’m sure you read up on the geography of this world but it is separated into five continents:
||Human Continent - The place where we all live. It’s north to the Forest Continent. The Forest and Human continent are connected to each other.
||Forest Contient - Just south to the Human Continent, Elves, Dwarfs, Demi-humans, Beastmen and other living creatures live there. Full of forests.
||Malignant Continent - The Continents of the Demons or otherwise named Malignants, very scary but advanced place, it’s just like the Human Continent except the demons there are frightening to a normal human.
||Rainy Continent - Constant rain, it has rain-adapted creatures. Only a small amount of humans and Malignant races live there
||Dragon Continent - Place full of mountains and sky islands, it’s where dragons and the Dragon-Race live.
The weakest of mana thresholds out of these continents is the Dragon Continent, followed by the Malignant Continent, Rainy Continent, Human Continent and then the Forest Continent. This is mostly because of the amount of forests and plant-life in each.”
“Ooh, I see.”
“Then, that’s enough questions for now. Let’s begin with the lesson.”
—
After finishing the worksheets that Radyn handed me, he asked me many questions that I answered easily.
It was mostly relating to the Theory of Magic that I had studied for years since I was 3.
He had commented: “You’ve surpassed my expectations” before continuing on.
Right now, we were standing outside.
Not in the front or backyard of the Osoric Estate.
We were somewhere far away.
About an hour’s walk from the Osoric Estate.
There were grass and flatlands all around us with only mountains to cover the horizon.
The sky was clear blue and the sun blindly shone into my eyes.
The flatlands were surrounded by tall mountains, creating a circle shutting us in.
“Well then, this is your first practical lesson. Let’s get straight into the point, you had cast a Beginner-Class spell around 3000 times a while ago. That means your mana capacity is unnaturally vast. So right now I’ll teach you a High-Class spell that consumes a lot of mana, I want you to cast it as many times as you can.”
“Yes sir!”
With that said, Radyn pulled out a Magical Textbook and flipped through the pages.
“We had discussed this one during our theory lessons earlier, it’s called [Wind: Tornado]”
It’s not the mini-tornado like the one I had cast inside my r-room.
It’s a real genuine tornado.
Now I see why Radyn chose such a flat and deserted place surrounded by mountains.
With a flat ground, it should be easy to disperse and control a [Wind: Tornado] spell. Also, in the case where I couldn’t disperse it, Radyn would either disperse it with his own spell or allow the surrounding mountains to do so themselves if the Tornado caught up with it.
Nevertheless, I took a glance at the spell in the spell book and read some of its theory.
After reading for a few minutes, I stood up and prepared to cast it.
“[Wind: Tornado]!”
I felt a small wind fly by my face.
My hair swayed in the air.
Though before I could say anything that would remotely underestimate the spell, a huge gust of wind struck the entire area.
The poor tree in the distance was uprooted.
My clothes and Radyn’s were flapping intensely.
The sound of a true tornado was heard.
But most importantly:
The sheer size of it.
It extended about 100 meters tall, being 20 meters in width.
It looked really scary.
I was shaking a little.
The [Wind: Tornado] High-Class spell was far off in the distance, where I had imagined where it would be.
“Young Master, that’s good, now nullify the spell!”
I heard Radyn’s voice, although he was just a few steps away from me it sounded like an echo from the distance.
My ears could barely pick up his words. It was overpowered by the sound of wind.
But I heard him regardless.
“…”
…
…How do I nullify a spell again?
My heart rate increased, the blood drained from my fingers and my head felt numb.
Calm down, just think… And even if I don’t remember, Radyn can do it himself.
Radyn seemed to notice my indecision and nullified it himself.
In order to nullify a spell, you must cast a specific Nullify spell with the same element and class rank, or just cast the same spell at it.
Radyn went with the former.
“[Nullify Wind: Tornado]!”
It was a High-Class Nullify spell.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
I think I accidentally skipped over that section of the book when I first studied magic, maybe because there were too many hard words?
With that cast, Radyn quickly approached me and analysed my condition.
“Forgive me, Young Master. It was my mistake that I didn’t teach you nullify magic before this. Please forgive me.”
Radyn bowed and apologised, even though it was my fault.
The plan was to have me cast the same spell again if I couldn’t control it in order to nullify it.
Even so, he still apologised.
“N-No, it’s my fault. I couldn’t hear you properly and you had to do it yourself.”
“Young Master truly is benevolent, as expected of Lord Lukyus’s son.”
—
After that, the planned lesson continued.
To Radyn’s surprise. I cast [Wind: Tornado] multiple times.
About 88 times to be exact.
He was astonished but only let it show on his face once.
What a tough cookie.
In the end, the entirety of the grass-lands were destroyed.
I wasn’t tired at all.
Radyn told me to stop despite me showing no signs of having a depleted mana reserve.
I just felt a little bit bad.
After all, I just destroyed what was before a very beautiful scenery.
But before I could voice what I thought, I heard Radyn cast a spell.
“May the gods of environmental fertility forgive us. Us who trampled across your plains, your mountains and your forests. Might you bless us with forgiveness that sprouts the regrowth of your kind. In your grace, [Earth: Everlasting Growth]”
Radyn cast a spell raising both his arms and closing his eyes, in deep concentration.
And in an instant, the dirt and ruined flatlands in front of me had vanished.
There was no more destruction.
Everything had returned, it regrew.
It was all grass.
Just like it was before.
That tree that was uprooted by my first spell grew back in a matter of seconds.
“Sir, what spell was that?”
I interposed a question as I thought about the spell.
First off, there were incantations.
Why?
“That was a Saint-Class Spell, it allows us to rebuild what was lost naturally. If you were to cast this onto a city, the buildings would crumble and be replaced with the wildlife that it took over. It’s a weapon against civilisation.”
S-Scary.
I almost forgot. Radyn is a Saint-Class Magician.
“Then, why did you use incantations? Is it not possible without them?”
“No, it’s certainly possible to cast a spell without incantations. Incantations are used only to strengthen a spell by a few folds. The only times you should incant is when you’re firing a final spell or doing something like this.”
That’s true, incanting during a battle if you weren’t going to use it as a final spell was wrong.
If that’s the case, then incanting for something like this would make sense.
After all, the place that’s needed to grow back to normal is a huge flatland.
“Well then, tell me how you feel. Are you tired?”
“Not at all.”
“…Then, that’s all for today. Let’s go back home.”
Radyn just barely hid his surprise by putting on a cold face.
Though I saw through it.
He’s a really tough cookie.
Part 2
After returning back home I was greeted by the servants of the household.
There was nothing to do so I was idling by.
Aerich was somewhere practicing magic or being tutored by Cella but I didn’t feel like approaching him today.
Radyn told me that he had an errand to run so he wasn’t in the house today.
I was walking in the hallway, it looked very nice.
Carpet adorned the floor with vases of flowers appearing every few meters.
The doors to each room were made of hard oak wood and the view outside the windows looked great.
After walking for several minutes, I noticed a door.
I opened the door.
I was greeted with Papa sitting on a desk, writing something down.
This was Papa’s study, where he would do his work.
I don’t know what exactly he does, but I do know he is a Lord of this region, called the Signe Region.
The Study was full of books, but it was still pitiful when compared to the library, Papa’s table looked like my table except it adorned with an air professionalism and further ornamentation like books and paper holders.
The Study was wider than it was long, there was a huge window by the table and the bookshelves extended throughout the entire room.
After hearing the door creak open, Papa had noticed me.
“Ah, Reign, so it was you. Come here.”
I ran towards Papa, as I got close he carried me by the armpits and placed me on his lap.
“What are you doing?”
I glanced over at the paperwork.
“Paperwork.”
Papa gestured his hands and scoffed with a lighthearted look on his face.
“I don’t understand, tell me more.”
“I don’t know if you would understand regardless-
“I will try to!”
I earnestly laid my hands on my father’s hands, gripping it.
Papa’s mouth turned into an interested grin.
“I see you’re very determined, then, I’ll tell you. Prepare yourself, okay?”
“Mhm!”
Papa then took a deep breath.
“The technology around this region is pretty low compared to those in the capitial, because of that, Papa is doing his upmost best in improving the economy around here.”
“I understand, tell me more.”
“W-Wha..? Alright-“
Papa looked perplexed by my reply, but he continued on regardless.
Is he that surprised that I understood?
I couldn’t see how I wouldn’t be able to understand that simple sentence.
“Ahem, well then: Since only just a decade ago this place was a dump, I was sent in and declared as Region Lord to change that. While I have already improved the land quite a bit in terms of agriculture, there still needs to be work done with things like commercial goods and trading with the Capitial city of the Kingdom. … Are you understanding this?”
“I am.”
“Are you really?”
“Yes, please tell me more!”
Of course I can understand, I’m not stupid.
If there’s anyone who wouldn’t understand at the age of 5 I’d give them a stern talking to.
With a brief pause, Papa sighed in defeat.
“Ahaha… You’re a bright one, then: The paperwork I’m signing off now permits to build a town between the villages, along with long-term contracts with merchants who wish to set up shop in the town I’m building. With this, commercial goods and services would flourish in the Signe Region, which would fulfil the objective of sending me here.”
So basically, Papa intends to build a small town in the Signe region, fostering the economy in the region.
That makes sense, it’s much better than relying on the harvest of the villagers to flourish the Signe region.
“Then Papa, who told you to do this?”
“The task was requested by the King and bestowed onto the Cinage House, and then the Cinage House ordered the Osoric branch house to do it, which is our family.”
Papa replied in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Then Papa, can I stay here while you do your paperwork?”
“Hm? Of course you can, get a pillow and make yourself comfortable.”
I stood up and jumped off Papa’s lap, searching for some sort of pillow.
But I couldn’t find anything so I left the Study to my own room.
I returned with both my pillow and small blanket.
I then sat back on Papa’s lap with a good pillow cushion and blanket to keep me warm.
It felt cozy.
I rested my head on Papa’s chest.
But then suddenly, something clicked within my head.
“…!”
Oh!
Something crossed my mind!
“Papa!”
“W-What is it?”
Surprised by the sudden call, Papa stammered and placed down the paper he was reading.
“I’m five years old now.”
“Yes, that’s right. You’re five years old and you’re able to write, read, do arithmetic, cast High-Class spells and practice sword style.”
Papa sarcastically commented that unnecessary last bit.
“Then why aren’t I going to school?!”
Children normally start going to school at 4 years old, especially noble children.
I had learnt that in a book!
“Hm? There’s no reason to, I just listed down things that people typically learn when they are around 15 years old. And as long as you know all those, school is unnecessary. Besides, the type of people there aren’t good.”
“What do you mean, Papa?”
“I mean that the children there are really haughty and condescending, they throw rocks at other commoners and hide behind their parent’s back for protection, they’ll even look down on lower-class nobles. The bullying over there is disgusting and can’t be resolved because of the child’s connections to their parents. It’s just better for you to be taught by someone like Radyn than go to a school.”
Papa had a disgusted look on his face, almost as if he was remembering something bad.
I cupped my chin, carefully considering Papa’s suggestion.
I initially wanted to go to school to make other friends, but if Papa says that people are like that then…
“Alright Papa, understood!”
I copied a salute.
“Good, now get back to resting!”
Papa returned my salute with his own.
He also flicked my forehead.
That hurt.
—
And so, after talking with Papa I spent the rest of the day sitting on Papa’s lap, reading the paperwork he too was reading and signing.
Most of the paperwork was about the establishment of the new town.
Apparently, the laying out of the foundations had already begun.
Actually, it began pretty recently.
Roads were already being built, houses were in blueprint planning, merchants were signing off deals for plots of land to sell their merchandise and the Kingdom’s adventurers guild had applied to build an adventurers branch guild over there.
I felt a bit sad that no one told me this.
It would take about ten years for the town to be fully built and complete.
So, it should be done when I turn 15 years old.
Y-You see how I used my Mathematic skills?
Hehe…
I only saw in the paperwork but the town would be called “Osoric” or the “Town of Osoric” in respects to the name of the Lord of the region, Lukyus Osoric Cinage.
Papa told me that if I walked just about an hour from here, I would be able to see people planning out infrastructure of the town.
I can’t wait to see how the town would look like when completed.
Other than that, the rest of the paperwork were letters or just information regarding the state of the region, nothing important for me.
That’s it, I’ve decided.
I’m going to visit the place where the town will be built with Aerich, Justice Girl and Ariel.
With that said, I was feeling a bit tired.
I mean, I was straining my eyes reading all the paperwork on the desk with Papa for hours on end.
Every time Papa would finish with a paper, he would put it in a certain pile that unwrittenly meant “Finished”.
I would take a document from the “Finished” pile and read all the contents.
During this time, Papa looked troubled and felt a little self-conscious, because I could see his handwriting improving every time he finished a paper.
In the end, the finished pile stacked as thick as my head.
But I still read it all.
My eyes felt heavily strained.
As I yawned, tears came out from my eyes.
“It’s quite dark out now, you’ve been sitting here long enough for my thighs to feel a bit numb. I’ll carry you to bed.”
Papa stood up, carrying me.
He opened the door from his study and walked towards my room.
“Well then, good night.”
“Good night, Papa.”
He gently closed the door, closing the lamp.
With that, I slept peacefully.
Part 3
“What? You’re telling me you haven’t seen the preparations for the new town to be built?”
Justice Girl curiously looked at me, she was surprised.
It seems like she had already seen it herself.
“No, I haven’t. I only found out about it yesterday.”
“That’s not good then let’s go now!”
Right now we were all sitting outside on a large boulder.
Aerich, myself, Justice Girl and Ariel were here.
“If you haven’t seen it then let’s go see it now.”
Ariel nudged my shoulder, pointed towards the direction of the so-called foundations of the town.
“Then, what do you think, Aerich?”
“I don’t mind, I’ve visited many times with my father and talked with merchants and future residents. The place isn’t that special.”
I cupped my chin with my hand, after a while I had decided.
“Alright, let’s go.”
—
After walking around for an hour, we had finally reached the laid foundations of the new town.
We stood on top of a cliff, looking down at the town in its early stages.
Looking from up top gives a very interesting perspective.
The layout was pretty vast but I was told that this is pretty small for a town.
You can tell the entire layout of the town because of the roads.
The roads were already shaped, they weren’t made of concrete yet and were still dirt.
Apparently, it was going to be laid in concrete soon.
People stood like ants down there, with a few central figures pointing at others, ordering them to do this and that.
It was the very definition of “under construction”.
The town was surrounded by dense trees, but it wasn’t as dense as the forest trees.
Down there, I saw Radyn talking with some people.
“Ah… So that’s what Radyn meant when he said he had an errand to run.”
He was talking with the merchants and the architect of the town.
“Mhm, father comes here often to instruct on what needs to be done and built, he also corrects inconsistencies he notices.”
“Ah, so that’s why he goes out of the house often.”
As I mentioned before, I noticed Radyn saying ‘goodbye’ more often than usual and walking outside.
But it wasn’t something that dwelled in my mind, so I didn’t care much.
Though it was quite interesting to learn that he was acting as an almost co-architect for the city, or maybe a construction advisor/overseer.
“What do you think, is it interesting, Reign?”
Justice Girl stood beside me, scouring down at the town.
“It is, this will be finished when we’re about 15 years old.”
“I can’t wait.”
Ariel interjected, also looking down into the town.
“Alright guys, I brought a ball with me. Who wants to play?”
Aerich, the older one here, took out a hand-sized ball.
“Me!”
We all replied earnestly.
So at the cliff, we started to play ball with each other.
It was pretty fun.
But after an hour, the ball fell off the cliff.
How sad.
—
We all returned our usual meeting place, dejected at the loss of the ball.
“I predicted that something like this would happen, so I got another one.”
Aerich pulled out another ball.
In the end, we played for a few hours before moving onto swimming in the lake.
After we swam in the lake, we sat underneath a tree and talked for a while.
And when it became dark, we said our goodbyes, heading home.
Today was a fun day.
