Chapter 37: Topping the List

Chapter 37: Topping the List

On the third floor of the Star Tower lies a vibrant tropical rainforest, a canvas of nature's meticulous brushwork. Jamie Smith treads cautiously through this labyrinth of mystery and greenery. The air is thick with moisture, the trees robust and ancient, with vines playfully climbing and weaving through the foliage like mischievous children, creating a tapestry of green. An eerie silence envelops the area, punctuated only by the occasional chirp of a bird or the buzz of an insect.

Jamie's heartbeat is a clear drumbeat in the stillness, a rhythm that tells of the lurking danger. Suddenly, he senses a piercing gaze from the shadows, like a pair of eyes watching him from the darkness. His heart skips a beat, and he quickly scans the surroundings, seeking the owner of that gaze.

In the distant foliage, he spots a pair of dark yellow eyes. They belong to a large feline, its fur a pale yellow adorned with black stripes that form a natural pattern on its body. The beast's massive head holds a gaze as cold as ice, devoid of any emotion, scrutinizing its prey. Above its eyes, thick black stripes form a 'king' character, a mark of its regal status. It stands two meters tall at the shoulder, with a body length of six meters, its sheer size causing Jamie's heart to tighten with trepidation.

"What a mighty tiger," Jamie whispers to himself, recognizing that while it may be slightly smaller than the bear king, its aura of intimidation is even more terrifying. Tigers represent the epitome of comprehensive strength—physique, power, speed, agility, attack, and skill—are all formidable. The virtual tiger conjured in the Star Tower's virtual world surpasses its real-world counterpart by leaps and bounds.

The tiger approaches with an elegant gait, making hardly a sound, its massive paws padding softly against the ground as it assesses its prey. Jamie grips his spear, ready to engage.

"Whoosh!"

With a burst of speed, Jamie charges forward, his spear a blur as it aims for the tiger's neck. The tiger, feeling challenged, lets out a ferocious roar and pounces.

The disparity in size between man and beast is vast, yet both head straight for a head-on clash!

At the critical moment, Jamie uses a nearby tree to change direction abruptly, his spear thrusting towards the tiger's neck with a speed that leaves a trail of afterimages.

"Puff."

The tiger, with a cold glint in its eyes, slaps the spear aside with its paw.

Boom!

Jamie feels a terrifying force surge through the spear, sending him tumbling and rolling until he slams into a tree.

"Too agile, too fast," Jamie mutters, his head aching with the realization of the tiger's prowess.

Whoosh.

The tiger swiftly climbs the tree, continuing its relentless pursuit of Jamie.

"Clang."

"Puff."

Jamie is on the defensive, evading and fleeing, his counterattacks effortlessly parried by the tiger.

"How can it be more agile than me?" Jamie wonders, relying on his smaller size and the rainforest's environment, along with his spear, to hold his own against the tiger.

But as the chase continues.

"Hm?" Jamie's face pales.

From all directions, more tigers emerge, their sizes varying, with the largest reaching over seven meters in length. The largest tiger stands its ground while the others slowly encircle.

"The third floor of the Star Tower, against so many tigers?" Jamie is bewildered, "I can't even fight one normal-sized large tiger, let alone dozens."

As the tigers close in, six large ones pounce at Jamie simultaneously.

Jamie surges forward, meeting one of the tigers head-on.

"Roar!" the tiger bellows, its claws swinging towards Jamie.

Jamie, with unparalleled bravery, uses the length of his spear to its advantage, thrusting it into the tiger's neck just as the claws are about to descend.

"Mountain Breaker!"

His most powerful spear technique drives the spear deep into the tiger's neck, but the tiger's claws, carried by their momentum, tear through Jamie's armor and flesh.

Both the tiger and Jamie's forms flicker and vanish, as other fierce tigers rush forward, their roars echoing around.

"It's really tough," Jamie admits after failing, reappearing outside the Star Tower.

"A life for a life, and I only managed to kill one tiger. And with my 'Mountain Breaker,' I only managed to pierce halfway through the tiger's neck. If I used 'Shadow Thrust,' it probably wouldn't have worked at all."

In the spectator platform.

May Lee is sitting in the stands, watching the live broadcast of the divine-level masters challenging the second floor of the Star Tower.

"May," Jamie Smith appears beside her, "watching the live broadcast?"

"Yep," May nods, "The Star Tower is just too difficult. I can handle two or three wild wolves! But when hundreds of them attack, I have no chance. I can't even get past the first floor, sigh... Look, this is Yvonne Green's live broadcast. She's challenging the second floor of the Star Tower, and after barely defeating the big bear, she's up against the bear king. It doesn't look like she can win."

Jamie looks over and sees the massive bear king chasing Yvonne Green. Yvonne's footwork is excellent, constantly using the mountain forest for evasion, her shield long gone, her left arm hanging limp, her weapon reduced to a single sword in her right hand.

"Yvonne Green is ranked 16th in Nymph Fairy's Summer Country rankings. With nearly eight hundred divine-level masters in Summer Country, Yvonne Green is definitely at the top level among divine-level masters!" May says.

Jamie nods. With the virtual world open for over seven days, and with billions of people in Summer Country, it's no surprise that there are nearly eight hundred divine-level masters. From the national team's first and second teams, to professional players in A and B level competitions, to masters from various martial arts schools, and folk masters, it's within Jamie's expectations to have nearly eight hundred divine-level masters in just over a week.

"Yvonne Green's shield and sword coordination, her offense and defense are top-notch. But against the bear king, her shield is useless... it even hinders her movement! The bear king swats her shield away with one paw, breaking her arm bone. With just a one-handed sword, she can't even pierce the bear king's skin! Before, with the big bear, she could still stab its eyes, its skull. This bear king is significantly faster and more agile; she can't get close."

"Even if she could get close, it would be hard to hit the eyes," Jamie comments, "Even if she hit the eyes, it's unlikely she could penetrate the skull."

He had tried the Shadow Thrust, spearing the bear king's eye, but couldn't go deep.

"The bear king is just too fast."

In the live broadcast, Yvonne Green's voice comes through, audible to all viewers, "Its fur is incredibly thick, my sword can't penetrate its fur and fat, I can't inflict any damage! My injuries are quite severe, I can't hold on any longer."

A large tree is smashed by the bear king, and the shattered wood hits Yvonne Green, who dodges awkwardly while immediately choosing to exit. Her body can no longer continue the fight.

"Many divine-level masters are live broadcasting, but none have challenged the third floor of the Star Tower," May Lee browses other live rooms, "Many divine-level masters can't even fight a big bear, only those ranked at the top in Summer Country can fight the bear king."

"Many divine-level masters only reach the divine level after reaching 50 stars in the Sun Grade, with a basic combat power of just over a thousand," Jamie Smith says, "Fighting a big bear is indeed very difficult. By the way, how many people have fought the bear king?"

"Yvonne Green, Channing Cheung, Eugene Fong, Howard Bell, among the live divine-level masters, only these four have fought the bear king, and they are all divine-level masters who can rank in Summer Country," May Lee says, "They have all fought the bear king, but they all lost. The bear king is too insurmountable, its defense is incredibly strong, its speed is fast, and its strength is unimaginably great."

Jamie Smith nods: "The bear king is indeed very strong."

"How about you, Jamie?" May Lee asks.

"I made it to the third floor of the Star Tower, but I failed," Jamie Smith says.

"Did you kill the bear king?" May Lee is both surprised and delighted, "The bear king is such a monster, how did you kill it?"

"I fought with it for eighteen minutes, and the bear king died from blood loss," Jamie Smith also sighs, "Its bear skin is too thick, it's impossible to kill with one spear, it can only be made to bleed continuously."

May Lee's eyes shine: "It's no wonder you're my Jamie, amazing! Tell me, what's on the third floor of the Star Tower?"

"Tigers."

Jamie Smith says, "Tigers that are even more formidable than the bear king."

"Even more formidable than

the bear king?" May Lee is surprised.

"And there are dozens of them," Jamie Smith shakes his head, "Dozens of large fierce tigers attacking together, there's no way to fight, the gap is too big."

May Lee is shocked: "No wonder the Blue Star Alliance's rules state that there is a bonus for passing the third floor, and there is no time limit... According to what you said, it may take a long time for the world to accumulate a hundred people to pass the third floor."

"Hmm?" May Lee notices that something is wrong with the many live rooms on the spectator platform, she has been studying the spectator platform for a long time, and she can see at a glance that some hosts have even changed the names of their live rooms.

"Jamie, hurry to the task space," May Lee says urgently, while she herself clicks and immediately goes to the task space.

...

Task Space.

Whoosh.

Jamie Smith descends from the sky, landing in front of the Star Tower.

Next to the Star Tower, a huge list appears in the night sky, hanging at the same height as the Star Tower.

Now this huge list only has one line of words - "Global First: Ray Willow (Summer Country)".

This line of words is like a bright star, illuminating the Star Tower and also illuminating the hearts of all challengers. The name Ray Willow has become the goal of all challengers and has also become a legend in the Star Tower. And Jamie Smith, this brave explorer, will continue his challenge and move towards higher goals.
