I've had a lot of time to think about what I want to do with my writing. And I'm not completely satisfied with what I've done so far. This story has been in the making for years, and my head is full of ideas that I want to tell. The problem is how.
Stories are more than their characters. They are the words chosen to tell them, but they're also scene composition, selecting perspectives and what to tell when, stylistic devises, character arcs, plot points, you get the gist. I haven't focused on this aspect of writing as much as I would have liked to. It's the reason the next arc of this story is still in the making. The story is done. I just can't seem to find a way to tell it.
I've decided to ask you, people who have (probably) read the story and experienced it from another viewpoint. I can take this story down, and redo it, work out the kinks, try to smooth out the wrinkels, make it more smooth and then continue with the next leg. This will take a lot of time.
Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.
Or, I can be satisfied with how I'm doing and just keep writing, trusting that my subconscious will tell the story as it is meant to be told.
Judging your own skill is hard, and this is a too long project to ask a random friend to give it a quick once over.
As readers, what do you think? Does this story need more planning, more smoothing out? Would you have told it different? Or is it fine the way it is?
I realise that this question is probably easier to answer to those more experienced in writing and analysing storytelling techniques. But I would like to hear from everyone, because subconsciously, even if you don't know why, you like this story, or something about it bugs you.
So, if you've got the time, click one of the options in the poll. Thank you.
