Chapter I: Balance in all things

The United Nations skyscraper, a massive spiral-designed marvel with glass windows reflecting the horizon and the glow of the sun. At the top of it resides the Head Council of the United Nations.

"Doctor, a guess, confirmed as Dr. Claire, is at your doorstep." says the automated female computer voice.

"Let her in." the doctor commanded.

The door looked solid, after the doctor's command, it transformed into bits of transparent cubes and dispersed then suddenly Dr. Claire, dashing with her white uniform, came into the picture.

She went inside, walking slowly as she observes the oval room filled with books in the bookshelves, her head wandered around.

"Yes, Doctor?" the doctor asked with a gloomy face, facing the windows and observing the whole Unitos. In the distance, he can see the edge of the wall filled with fogs as if the top of the wall has reached the clouds. What's outside of the wall is invisible as the fog has occupied the rest of it.

"Oh..." as if she was unaware that he is present, she came into her senses.

"I'm sorry.." she chuckled.

"Dr. Sirius.." she called him by his name. Her arms at the back of her hips, her facial expression turned serious, "I'm just wondering, we are inside a wall with all the things we need—from food, water, shelter, and most of all—air.” Claire paused, thinking of what she could say next.

Dr. Sirius turned to her slightly, half of his face facing the glass windows still. “And your point is?”

“When will this end?” She went straight to the point. A moment of silence came into the room.

“As long as we don’t want it to end, Doctor, it won’t.” He snapped.

Riddled, she raised her right arm to ask what he meant.

Dr. Sirius already knows what she will ask, a wise man that he is, he said, “Human beings have choices, one of them has lead us into building this sanctuary. There is a balance in all things, but only our choices could mean the beginning or end of it.”

That seems to have convinced her, staring at the window, as if she is lost in thoughts, she said, “I was always curious on what is outside the wall.”

“Horrors of the past, Doctor, and hope it will never happen again.”

With no words to say, they both went silent for a moment, still staring the horizon, they both knew what they were thinking as they stared at the edge of the wall.

As if she almost forgot, she then took 6-inch tablet from her pocket, with the swipe of her finger the tablet turned on, she swiped it again and lines of data appeared from the hologram. She took the data with her hand and threw it into the wall. Suddenly, a hologram of data embedded into Dr. Sirius’ office wall.

“Is it complete?” He asked without looking into the data, still his eyes into the windows, it seems he already knew what data Dr. Claire has transfered into his office.

“Awaiting further testing, Doctor, and of course, your review on the data.” She answered.

“Very well.” He responded, his face remained gloomy and mysterious.

Dr. Claire knows him well, she knew the doctor is not much of a talker and prefers to be alone most of the time. She turned and walked away from the office without saying goodbye, all that's heard is her footsteps generated by her heels. The door then appeared solid gray as it was originally.

Then here he is, alone and still lost in thoughts.
