3 – Shouldering the Title of the Avenger

The dam was guarded by New China Federation’s soldiers.

Lu Qiu felt like it’s going to be dangerous to go there.

Being shot by bullets would still hurt like a bitch, even with a body three times more powerful than a human’s.

At the moment, Lu Qiu was hiding in the woods near the dam, observing the distant dormant steel beast that was Wenhan City’s dam.

In the surroundings of the dam were large quantities of lamplight scouting the dark night, from time to time, armed patrols could be seen.

The reason why there was a barracks stationed near the city, was mainly because of the currently turbulent state of the world.

Since WW3, technology had a rapid growth. Things like the Exoskeleton Armor and Lasers have an extensive applications in wars.

Perhaps in a few years even Gundams would appear, although it would be ridiculous in the real world.1

However, wearing the presently strongest war equipment, the Exoskeleton Armor, truly has s bit of a Gundam feeling.

The city seems to have something worthy of protection for New China Federation to employ heavy artillery, adding to the perennial flood of the upper reaches of the river. If somebody were to blow up the dam, then the city would experience a catastrophe.

“Damn it, there’s no way to get there.” Lu Qiu bit on his finger while trying to find out the patrol patterns. As a nocturnal being, Lu Qiu can perfectly merge with the darkness, but to cross those several meters, adding on the pressure brought by overcoming the hundreds of thousands barbed wires, is simply impossible..

Although Lu Qiu is a Vampire, yet he can’t turn into a bat. As a low-level Vampire, beside his body being somewhat more powerful than a human’s, there’s no other specific ability.

After Lu Qiu is capable of unleashing his lineage’s potential, perhaps then will he be able of using the legendary magic and the like.

But presently as a Vampire …

“Hmm?” Lu Qiu watched as the barracks’ heavily guarded gate suddenly opened.

Several soldiers wearing green uniforms came out while dragging a man covered in bruises.

Following them was a fatty clothed in an Officer’s attire.

Lu Qiu focused his mind on his Vampire’s senses and was barely capable of hearing clearly what they were saying.

“Don’t think I won’t dare to kill you! Your wife followed me happily! Come back and you’re dead!”

Finished speaking, this Officer-looking fatty still kicked the man. The bruised man fell to the ground and then spit out a mouthful of blood. He was thrown out of the barracks’ gate just like garbage.

“Hah, green hat?” Lu Qiu continued to observe the man. The man stood up while trembling, and then left the barracks with an ashen face.2

Looking by the clothing style, the man should be a villager from the neighborhood.

Within the New China Federation’s barracks there are no female soldiers. Presumably, the fatty Officer had to constantly control his own needs as a male, until he finally went outside to abduct a woman without any background.

It’s very remote around these parts, and the Officer’s status doesn’t seem to be low. Even if the police gets involved, there’s still no hope.

“This desperate expression.” Lu Qiu has been watching the man as he went towards Lu Qiu’s direction within the woods.

Have … a way …

“System, what happens if the Blacklight Virus isn’t diluted and is directly injected into the life form’s body?”

“Powerful transformation?”

“Becoming extremely dangerous, berserk …”

“That’s exactly what I need!” Lu Qiu just now looked through the System in a natural manner. In exchange of 1 Despair Point, a container and a matching syringe appeared in his hands. After extracting a little bit of the red virus, Lu Qiu then looked at the bruised man.

Lu Qiu jumped on a tree branch, scarlet pupils observed the man gradually coming closer, as the tempting voice reverberated among the trees.

“Do you … want revenge?”

According to the human’s legends, the Vampires are a corrupted race, who lures humans in order to corrupt them and turn them into as filthy beings as they are.

Lu Qiu, as a Vampire, also has this kind of ability.

“Who?” The black and blue beaten man raised his head, his face was also bruised because of the beating. While somewhat frightened, he swept his eyes through the trees.

“Your wife was abducted by others, could it be that you’re giving up?”

“I …” He hesitated, initially he had a wonderful family, but then, that wretched fatty came along and abducted his wife – by relying on his status as the one in charge of this prefecture’s barracks. The man had then called for the police, but the police unexpectedly claimed that he had slandered an Officer and threatened some soldiers, which led him to a prison sentence of two months.

After being released from prison, even though he feared death, he still embraced his hatred and went to the barracks. But after entering, he actually saw his wife being nestled in that wretched fatty’s embrace!

Without money nor influence … without anything at all, the man even lost his family.

He was only left with hatred!

However ….

“I can’t win against them, I’ve already lost everything.”

“No … you still have your life.” Lu Qiu’s voice seemed to be uttered beside the man’s ear, as if a demon was trying to tempt him: “Do you want revenge?” As long as you give up on your life, you will obtain the power for revenge! Kill those who stole everything from you, human!”

Kill … those who stole everything from me? He became stunned.

That fatty’s hateful appearance incessantly flashed through his mind, as he clenched his hands because of his body’s aching.

Wrath and hatred filled his whole body.

Revenge … whether it was my wife or that wretched fatty, they stole everything from me.

The man felt for the first time that he lacked something.

That … was power!

“Give me power …” He accepted the demon’s temptation.

Lu Qiu’s scarlet pupils revealed an excited radiance, just this …

Humans falling into despair and using their lives to take vengeance.

No matter how many times he sees it, it will never tire him.

“Go and kill those that you hate, human.”

In the woods, a silver stream of light flashed past, the syringe was precisely shot from Lu Qiu’s hands and hit the man’s neck.

The liquid inside the syringe represented destruction, a little … a little bit was injected into the man’s neck

Then … he fell down as a sign of his death.

However, he obtained a new life!

Monster! Lu Qiu opened his eyes wide and stared at the man’s body, while standing on a tree branch.

A real … monster!

“Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …”

The sound of a muffled growl reverberated through the woods, the originally human body began to distort, a variety of scarlet muscles containing devastating power emerged above the skin and covered the body. Sharp claws as long as a meter ejected from between the hands.

Tendril-like muscle tissue coiled within that human’s body, remolding it. Finally he became that, he transformed into a real monster and once again descended upon the world.

Close to two meters tall, with limbs lying prone on the ground and sharp claws overturning the surface of the ground, fangs arose from its bloody maw, the tongue also elongated while a corroding liquid flowed from it and then dropped on to the ground, corroding the grass around.

“Grr!” The monster uttered a growl that shook the entire woods, using its sturdy and vigorous limbs, it jumped up and leapt towards the barracks.

Lu Qiu followed the monster and ran to the edge of the woods, he watched as alarmed cries erupted from the barracks.

“Let’s call you ‘The Hunter’.”3

Lu Qiu spread his hands, closed his eyes and listened to the monster’s growls, the crowd’s desperate roars, as well as the sound of bullets being shot.

“It’s only the first step, the prologue to Doomsday.”
