Chapter 58

The world faded away in an instant, replaced by a pitch black void. N couldn’t help the feeling of disorientation as his senses were stolen from him, but he tempered his panic with a forced calm. This wasn’t the first time he’d been subjected to this.

When light shone in his eyes once more, his position on the field had changed.

James screeched like a girl, and Team Rocket all jumped back in fright as Mimikyu deposited himself and N right in the middle of their group.

“How are you doing that without your creepy fake Pikachu?!” Jessie demanded.

“I don’t have enough lives left ta lose another like this, I’ll give ya anything ya want!” Meowth pleaded.

James, however, leaned in closer after his initial fright subsided. “Hey, wait just a moment! That’s not a Mime Jr. at all! This is just a poorly made doll!” He scoffed, glaring at the two intruders. “It takes some real nerve to pull that sort of thing on us, you know! We’re masters of disguise and you think you can fool us with that?!”

“...well it worked from a distance, didn’ it? Not that that was the poin’...” Mimikyu muttered.

While N was very much displeased with where Mimikyu had brought them, he was more concerned with the swarm of Golbats that had quickly spotted them once more after some initial confusion and was heading their way again. “I don’t suppose you have a plan, Mimikyu?” He urgently prompted his friend.

“Wait, this fake Mime Jr. and the fake Pikachu are the same Pokemon?” Jessie leaned in closer to take a look.

“Meowth,” Mimikyu looked towards the talking Pokemon, ignoring Jessie, “What do ya say to a temporary truce? I ain’ a fan of Galactic either, ‘n’ with that many of ‘em at once I think we’ll need to collaborate ta take ‘em all down.”

Meowth looked up at him with suspicion. “Ya wanna team up? You’re a psycho, I don’t want anything ta do with ya!”

The swarm of Golbats were quickly closing in, and Mimikyu suggesting that they work with the Rockets wasn’t much of an actual plan. N grimaced. “We’re running out of time, here!”

“I know!” Mimikyu rebutted. “Are ya in or not?”

“Team up with some twerps?” Jessie looked disgusted. “I’d rather get blasted off than do that!”

“It’s not like it would be the first time, and we’re kind of in a pinch here!” James countered.

Meowth looked queasy as he said the words, but he said them nonetheless. “Fine! These punks need ta get taken down a peg, so if we have ta work with the likes of youz two ta do it…”

Blades of wind started to cut through the air mere feet away from them as the Golbats got within firing range, the many Pokemon yelling angrily at Mimikyu. “YOU TAKE THAT BACK YOU LITTLE-”

“Wobbuffet, cut your power for a moment!”

“WAHHH-BAH!”

Darkness consumed him once more.

When the ground was under his feet again the Rockets were all screaming, Mimikyu looked deflated, and they were all surrounded by the Galactics.

“WARN A GIRL, WOULD YOU?!” Jessie chastised.

“I’m gonna need a night light from now on!” Meowth cried out.

James recovered the quickest, his eyes darting to the grunts surrounding them.

Mimikyu grunted. “Alrigh’, that was rougher than I was expectin’...”

N wanted to strangle the little ghost. “How is bringing us into the middle of their group an improvement?!” he whisper-hissed.

One of the grunts around them laughed. “I don’t know who you are, but you must be really dumb to oppose the likes of Team Galactic like this!”

The Golbats shrieked in the distance, their prey having warped away once again, their anger only mounting.

“Quiet, you fool!” A voice rose above the noise. A quick scan of the crowd revealed it to be a Galactic member in a slightly different uniform, his blue hair gelled up into an odd crescent shape. “Return your Pokemon at once!”

The other Galactic members looked at him in shock and confusion, and N almost felt like joining in, before James laughed. “You really are a twerp, aren’t you? A trick like this is just up their alley! Using their own power against them, just like the twerps have done to us so many times!”

Using their power against them? N looked back towards the swarm of Golbat to find that they were hunting Mimikyu down once more… and they didn’t seem to care that their enemy was embedded within the cluster of Galactic grunts.

The trainers quickly dove out of the way as their own Pokemon attacked them, driven beyond reason by Mimikyu’s Taunt, globs of poison and sharp winds grazing a few of them who cried out in pain. Beams of red light quickly saw the large force returned to their Pokeballs.

The blue haired Galactic member glared at them all with disdain, before he replaced that look with a smug grin. “I suppose you’re not like the usual rabble, trying to use human shields to protect yourselves. It matters little, though, when you’re up against a superior opponent such as myself.” He pulled out a Pokeball.

Jessie laughed. “You? Superior? Have you looked in a mirror lately?”

“Toxicroak…”

With a beam of light, a bipedal Pokemon appeared. Bright yellow eyes seemed to glow, even in the sunlight. Lithe arms ended in three fingered hands with a red claw jutting out of the backs of them. Muscular thighs were supported by three toed feet with hooked heels. Its toxic blue skin was broken up by stripes of black and a huge, swollen red bubble on its throat. The horn on its head was dull, but promised to bring pain all the same.

With just a glance, N could tell that this Toxicroak was experienced in battle.

“...Sludge Bomb.” The leader commanded.

Toxicroak’s grinning maw opened wide as it spot out large globs of a murky, noxious liquid.

Team Rocket instantly fell back on their tried and true method, putting Wobbuffet between them and the incoming attack, and N was quick to follow their example. With an indigo glow of Psychic power, Wobbuffet took the spray head on, rearing back with each glob of sludge before suddenly springing forward and launching it all back towards Toxicroak.

The sludge exploded on impact this time, kicking up dust and debris. Galactic’s leader didn’t react much to this, however, and his lack of concern was justified when the air cleared up and Toxicroak was revealed to be no more worse for wear.

While Toxicroak was keeping them busy, the plethora of grunts seemed to wise up, moving away from N and the Rockets to decrease the odds of friendly fire, and N figured it wouldn't be long before their swarm of Golbat entered the fray once more.

Something told him that this Toxicroak was a much more pressing concern, though.

“What do we know about Toxicroak?” He reluctantly asked the Rockets.

He watched as James quickly pulled out a deck of cards, flipping through them frantically before pulling out one with a cartoonish Toxicroak on it. “They’re Poison and Fighting types that store their poison in the sac on their throats! They pack a mean punch, but they’re not terribly fast and are frail, especially against Psychic type moves!”

“And do we have any Psychic moves we can use?” N prompted. He knew that Wobbuffet was a Psychic type, but he recalled Brock saying that the species was incapable of actually launching attacks, only reacting like the one before him had been doing until now.

Jessie glared at him, but answered regardless. “Dustox knows Psybeam…”

James squirmed. “Technically Mime Jr. could use Mimic to copy Psybeam, but Mime Jr. isn’t a battle Pokemon!”

“Poison Jab.”

Saturn didn’t give them much time to think before his Pokemon’s right fist started to glow a sickly purple, running towards them and darting around the waiting Wobbuffet. It couldn’t reflect what didn’t hit it, after all.

N leaned back, worried that the attack might come for him as the Fighting type zeroed in on the group, but a Shadow Claw intercepted it, the two moves struggling against each other for a moment before Toxicroak backed off a few feet.

“Are ya any good in a fight, Meowth? I ain’ too sure of my odds ‘ere even if I ‘ave a good type matchup…” Mimikyu asked his temporary partner as he raised another Shadow Claw in the air, using both tendril like limbs to keep their foe at bay.

“I’m a thinker, not a fighter, but if it comes down to it I can show that punk a Fury Swipes!” Meowth declared as he extended his claws.

“Rock Smash.”

Toxicroak’s fist started to glow with an orangish tint this time, lunging in to punch Meowth in the face. Meowth held up his claws with a shriek of fright, but Mimikyu jumped between them, his pink cloth body warping around the Rock Smash and throwing Toxicroak off guard. The confusion the Poison type showed upon its attack not landing a solid hit gave enough of an opening for Mimikyu to slash a Shadow Claw across the Galactic Pokemon’s face.

“T-thanks for tha save!” Meowth whimpered as Toxicroak leapt back, glaring at Mimikyu and massaging the cuts across its skin.

The Galactic grunts started to release their Pokemon again at that point, the Taunt’s effects likely having worn off by now, and N wasn’t liking their odds. Part of him wanted to just bail and leave the Rockets to deal with this mess, but if Mimikyu would go so far as to insert them into the conflict then N didn’t think it likely that the little fae would back out now. He needed the Rockets to pull their weight though, given that he didn’t have a team of his own. “You lot are criminals, aren’t you? Why are you holding the rest of your teams in reserve when they could be helping us out?”

“My Pokemon are my dear friends, not tools to be used!” James barked right back.

N’s thoughts stuttered for a moment, not having expected that from a group like the Rockets.

“And I don’t take orders from twerps!” Jessie added on before growling. “But I hate losing to stuck up people like them even more!”

In a flash of light, Jessie released her Seviper and Dustox while James released some sort of Grass type he was unfamiliar with and Mime Jr. It was odd seeing a real one now that Mimikyu was dressed up as one.

The Grass type promptly latched its huge mouth onto James’ head, muffling him as he struggled to get it off, much to N’s confusion.

The Toxicroak eyed the new participants warily, but ultimately set their eyes back on Mimikyu, obviously noting the differences between him and an actual Mime Jr.

“You’re not normal.” A deep, raspy voice croaked out. “What are you?”

“Ya think I’m jus’ gonna tell ya?” Mimikyu scoffed. Half turning back towards the rest of them, he spoke to the new Pokemon on their side. “If you guys can keep the Golbats off of us, I think Meowth ‘n’ I can at least keep from gettin’ knocked out ‘ere.”

“Speak for yourself!” Meowth demanded. “Unlike youz I can’t hold up to a Rock Smash like that!”

Seviper and Dustox shared a look before giving simple nods and moving to cover from the Flying types. James finally managed to free himself from the Grass type, and he shoved it along with the two Poison types. “You go too, Carnivine!”

Mime Jr. on the other hand…

“Now isn’t the time, Mime Jr.!” James pleaded as his Pokemon marched right up to Mimikyu and started trying to copy every pose he made.

“Ya think I’m jus’ gonna tell ya?” She repeated.

“X-Scissor.”

Toxicroak’s claws glowed a yellowish-green and he lunged for them, crossing his arms and aiming for the real Mime Jr. “I at least know that this will hit you.”

Mimikyu put himself in the line of fire again, though this time he seemed to struggle a lot more with holding back the move with his own Shadow Claws. “Would ya fuck off already? I liked confusin’ the Golbats a whole lot more than dealin’ with this!”

“Would ya fuck off already?” Mime Jr. repeated.

Meowth leveled a glare at both Toxicroak and Mimikyu. “Who do you think you are, teaching the kid ta swear! We’re supposed ta be the bad guys here!”

“You did what?!” James squeaked.

----------------------------------------

“Thanks for that, Dawn. I really do feel a lot better just having talked about it with someone…” Maylene told her as they approached the Veilstone Gym.

“It was the least I could do, really!” Dawn reassured her. She felt the same way, even if “a lot better” was still leagues away from feeling good about any of her problems. Though she still felt like she was lost at sea, waiting for the waves to pull her under, this had been a nice breath of fresh air before the next wave came crashing down.

“I have to say, though…” Maylene sighed. “Knowing that you’re all part of that group doesn’t exactly have me looking forward to a battle with Ash.” She opened the door, holding it open for Dawn. “Or, I guess it’s more like… I’m sort of excited for it, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to lose.”

Part of that group? What did she mean by that? And it’s not like they were really a group anymore to begin with… But Dawn pushed those thoughts aside as she walked back into the Gym, spotting Ash and Brock talking quietly with some of the Gym trainers. “You can’t go into it expecting to lose. That’s a sure way to lose a contest, and I’m certain it’s the same with Gym battles. Ash is pretty good, but he’s not unbeatable or anything.”

Maylene gave her a weird look in response to that. “We are talking about Ash Ketchum, right? Because what I heard was that-”

She was interrupted by the squealing of tires, and everyone looked outside as Maylene held the door open.

“Gym Leader Maylene! We have a situation and need your help!” An Officer Jenny shouted from atop her motorcycle.

That got everyone’s attention in an instant, and Maylene marched right back outside, releasing her Lucario so that he could listen in. “What’s wrong?”

Officer Jenny grimaced. “There’s a disturbance by the meteorite field. We thought it was a simple battle at first, but it’s really getting out of control! There are too many of them for just the force to handle everyone at once…”

“Then we can help out!” Ash shouted as he ran outside to join them.

“Pika!” His partner agreed, his cheeks sparking.

“Anything for you, Officer Jenny!” Brock proclaimed as he slid down to one knee, grabbing her gloved hand gently.

He got a lot of weird looks for that, but they didn’t have time to question the man’s antics.

“Uh, right,” she pulled her hand back awkwardly, “anyway, we need to get a move on!”

Dawn’s heart sank.

She really couldn’t catch a break, could she?

----------------------------------------

This entire scenario was becoming rather infuriating.

The Rockets had been an annoyance at first, but not something that could not be easily dealt with. They weren’t exactly bright, as shown by how easily manipulated they were, and their teams lacked any sort of outstanding firepower. With the sheer numbers that Saturn had at his disposal right now, he should have been able to make quick work of them.

But then these… newcomers had arrived.

Saturn didn’t know what they were, and that was a point of major vexation.

The human didn’t seem all that remarkable on his own. No pokeballs were visible on his person, and as the battle had progressed it appeared that the only Pokemon in his possession was the one already on the field. From what Saturn could hear of their conversations over the din of the battle, he didn’t seem to be particularly adept with strategy either. Rather, it seemed that the Pokemon was the one in charge. He did have some skill at reading the moment to moment flow of battle, having moved or pulled others out of the line of fire on multiple occasions, sometimes before an attack had been launched. Saturn hadn’t yet dissected his methods for doing so, but that was all that there was to him.

The Pokemon on the other hand…

He stared down the adorable little thing as it battled with Toxicroak.

Though it was similar in appearance to a Mime Jr., that was very clearly not the case, especially with a genuine article right next to it. The shadowy arms alone were enough of a giveaway, but the movepool was another solid indication.

Saturn was certain that it had subjected the Golbats to a Taunt earlier, and it seemed to heavily rely on Shadow Claw during battle. There was also the warping ability… Shadow Sneak perhaps? But he’d never seen any reports of a Pokemon being able to move groups around with them like that…

Regardless of what the move was, it proved a hindrance to Toxicroak’s ability to dispatch the Pokemon. If Toxicroak came too close to landing a solid blow, it simply disappeared into the shadows. If Toxicroak’s attack was more manageable, it deflected the move with a Shadow Claw.

The one saving grace was that the Pokemon was weak. None of its attacks did more than surface level damage to Toxicroak, leaving him covered in small cuts that bled quite a bit, but had no effect on his performance.

The Meowth was also involved, but…

“Hey, watch it! Do you know how long it takes to get my fur so perfect in the morning?!”

These Rockets were more like a poor comedy routine than any sort of threat.

Ultimately, this turned the battle into a matter of slowly wearing the foe down over time. He left the matter of the Rockets themselves to his subordinates, and their Golbats were ever so slowly chipping away at that Wobbuffet of theirs, which put them in the same boat as him.

Saturn didn’t like unknowns, though. Without a perfect understanding of what they were up against, Team Galactic’s plans could come unraveled. He would need to do research after this mission was completed, gather up every scrap of information he could find on this Pokemon, whatever it was.

“Mimi-mi!” it shouted out as it narrowly avoided a Dark Pulse, the rings of darkness colliding harmlessly with the ground beneath it.

It even went so far as to mimic the cry of the Pokemon it was pretending to be… how curious…

Saturn sighed. If nothing else, this was a rather good distraction, just as he had been asked to provide. Not the one he had intended, but workable nonetheless.

Toxicroak opened his maw, preparing to launch another Sludge Bomb at the Pokemon when the sound of sirens echoed out over the field.

“Stop!” Saturn commanded, and the battle came to a screeching halt.

Quickly making their way towards the battle was quite the entourage for the local Officer Jenny. The Gym Leader had accompanied her, as well as a group of random trainers…

“Finally ready to give up?” The Rocket woman taunted them. “I knew you didn’t have it in you!”

The man slapped his hand over her mouth. “Jessie, Officer Jenny is here. We need to leave!”

The green haired one let out a sigh of relief. “It worked, then…”

Curious. But Saturn was certain that all would work out in his favor.

Officer Jenny’s bike screeched to a halt before them. “What’s going on here?!” She demanded.

“Hey, that’s Team Rocket!” A boy with a Pikachu proclaimed.

“N?” A blue haired little girl looked towards the green haired fool curiously.

Was N some sort of codename? Nobody would name their child that, it must be. Perhaps he was some sort of professional and the lack of skill shown was simply a method to gather information…

That could wait, though. Saturn strode forward, meeting the officer of the law head on. “It is good to see you, Officer Jenny. I’m afraid that we were simply minding our own business when these miscreants decided to try and shoot at us. We, of course, responded by sending out our Pokemon, and you can see how that turned out.”

“Just minding your own business?” The male Rocket mocked. “Just what sort of business were you up to then?!”

“It looked to me like you were in the middle of stealing all these meteorites!” The Meowth added on.

Officer Jenny narrowed her eyes on all involved, eventually settling on the green haired one. “And you? What’s your side of the story?”

He hesitated as the cute little Not-Mime Jr. climbed up onto his shoulder, looking more like a toy deprived of its stuffing than anything alive. It drew several curious stares from the new arrivals. “When I arrived, the battle was already ongoing. I’ve had run-ins with Team Rocket in the past, so I figured getting involved would allow me to stop some sort of crime…”

Now that the battle wasn’t raging around them, Saturn picked up on an obvious accent. This man wasn’t even from the League, was he?

The Gym Leader pouted at that response. “Then why did it look like you were fighting with these Team Rocket people?”

“Initially I planned on assisting Team Galactic,” he explained.

“HEY!” The Rocket woman shouted, but her team quickly shut her up, physically restraining her and keeping her from jumping into a battle herself.

“But…” he glanced at the charming thing on his shoulder, “my Pokemon pointed out to me that the Rockets seemed to be defending themselves from a much more brutal Galactic. I decided it would be best to involve myself regardless, and keep things from getting too out of hand until you could arrive.”

Jenny and Maylene seemed to be thinking over their stories critically, but the group behind them seemed very confused. There must be some serious history with them and this “N” fellow.

“I can personally assure you, Officer Jenny, that my compatriots and I have not broken a single law today,” Saturn informed them.

“The story of a well respected company like Galactic holds more weight than the story of criminals in my eyes,” a new voice spoke.

Saturn’s eyes widened as he realized that someone had suddenly appeared in his field of view without him noticing.

“I hope you don’t mind me butting in, Officer Jenny, Maylene. I was swinging by in relation to other matters, but… well, it would be remiss of me not to involve myself in this, wouldn’t it?”

Officer Jenny breathed a sigh of relief. “Of course, Sir! Thank you very much for your assistance!”

Maylene shyly stepped back.

“Now, why don’t we cut to the chase?” Elite Four Lucian stepped forward.

----------------------------------------

The explanations went on for a good while, and with every bit of it N felt worse about the fact that he had trusted Mimikyu on the matter. Things weren’t looking very good.

He didn’t exactly have any sort of respect for Lucian, but the man did hold a lot of authority within the League, and with how much scrutiny N and Mimikyu were under already…

But the Rockets kept switching between blatantly lying to Lucian’s face or flat out admitting to their illegal activities, such as trying to shoot Galactic out of the sky because they assumed that Galactic was also here to steal the meteorites.

Saturn, on the other hand, who was apparently the “head of the department” for this group of Galactic, whatever that was supposed to mean, was able to cite specific laws to the Elite Four member that justified or excused every one of their actions. He wouldn't be surprised if the man knew the laws better than Officer Jenny.

Dawn had sidled up next to him at one point, whispering “N, why did you help Team Rocket? They’re bad guys! …and what’s with Mimikyu? That is Mimikyu, right? He’s so cute right now…”

N sighed, whispering back “Mimikyu is bad at explaining things beforehand.”

“I resent that remark.” His captivating little fae friend deadpanned.

“Well I think Lucian resents you.” It had taken N a while to pick up on it, but Lucian seemed to be actively avoiding them. He was still keeping close enough to talk without shouting, but if N or Mimikyu took a step forward, Lucian took a step back. Keeping a distance between them, only interacting with them if necessary. It made N curious about why he would be doing it, but he wasn’t about to ask.

And on the topic of Lucian, it seemed that he had come to his decision.

“Well then. With all of that out of the way, I think it’s safe to say that the actions of Galactic were well within the confines of the law. The actions of N and his adorable friend, while misguided, were not unlawful, though I advise that you consider who you side with in the future. The actions of Team Rocket…”

“Think twice before you finish that thought!” Jessie threatened as Meowth pulled out a rocket launcher.

N’s eye twitched. “You morons had that the entire time and didn’t think to use it when we were being attacked?”

“You think it’s a good idea to threaten me?” Lucian sounded amused, and a pokeball in his possession released on its own, allowing his Bronzong to float beside him, ready to protect its trainer.

“It’s always a good idea to have a back up plan!” James smugly replied.

Everyone watched with a morbid curiosity as Meowth leveled the thing at Lucian’s face and fired.

The rocket launcher promptly exploded in his grasp, hiding them from view as everyone flinched back and covered their faces. Bronzong made that a bit redundant as it put up a psychic barrier to protect them.

The Rockets, however, were now nowhere to be seen.

“We’re blasting off agaiiiiiin!” was shouted down from the sky.

“WAH-BAH!”

N barely looked up in time to see them flying up into the air at an incredible speed before they disappeared from sight.

“...did that really just happen?” One of the Galactic grunts asked, dumbfounded.

“They really are morons…” another added.

N wasn’t couldn’t piece together if that had been their escape plan from the start or if they’d just lucked into it. Or maybe it was unlucky, given that they exploded?

Lucian frowned. “Well that certainly puts a damper on things. We’ll have to track them down… Bronzong, start calculating their trajectory and approximate landing area.”

He brushed his hair out of his face with an annoyed sigh. “I do so hate when things don’t go to plan. Saturn, please do me a favor and inform your superior that they will be handled.”

He quickly released his Alakazam and Gallade, also pulling out a top of the line cell phone. “We’ll need to wrap things up quickly if we don’t want them to get away… Begin Galactic exposure protocol, please. Level 3. And be wary of the Fairy type, it wouldn’t do for the infection to spread now of all times, even if there is a new victim.” He stared pityingly at Mimikyu.

“Hold on a moment, Galactic exposure protocol?” Officer Jenny sounded confused. “Since when is there protocol for specific companies? I don’t recall any training for… for…”

Her words trailed off and N’s mind grew foggy as the eyes of the Psychics flashed with power.

Saturn and the Galactic grunts stared at Lucian wide eyed. “So then you must be…”

“Do not speak of it,” Lucian interrupted Saturn, “this is a delicate process and adding more now could cause issues.”

Saturn promptly shut up, but the grunts started whispering to each other excitedly.

N felt… what did N feel… he couldn’t remember something…

“Hey, wait just a… just a minute…” Ash grumbled as he stumbled forward. “You can’t just… mess with our memories like this! I’ll… I’ll remember and I’ll…” He fell to his knees, clutching his head.

Lucian frowned. “Has he already been subjected to memory alteration? It was theorized that repeated usage could cause issues, but who would… well, no matter. Increase the pressure on that one, Chosen One or not he cannot be allowed to remember.”

Their memories? What was Lucian… that smug bastard….

The power in the eyes of the Psychics pulsed stronger.

“In fact, perhaps we should step it up a notch over the whole city. Porygon 2, follow up on that exposure protocol with a Trace distribution over the network.”

“Confirmed.” His phone chimed.

The whole city? What was… what was even happening? N couldn’t think clearly…

“That should just about do it, I think.” Lucian nodded. Then, turning back to Galactic, “You should clear out of here and return to your base, it will make my job easier.”

Saturn thought it over for a moment before nodding back to him. “Very well. Thank you for your… assistance.”

Lucian smirked. “Think nothing of it. I’m only doing my duty.”

N’s thoughts grew foggier and foggier as the eyes of the Psychic types pulsed.

----------------------------------------

Lucas inspected his Porygon.

Fly came in a Hidden Machine and not a Technical Machine. That meant it had unlimited uses, at least theoretically.

This meant that he could use it as much as he wanted and keep it in his hoard of treasures!

He’d heard about the move Fly before. On a TV show that Barry showed him, they said that it made it easier for Pokemon to carry passengers through the air. He’d be able to soar through the skies of Sinnoh if he could teach it to a member of his team. Think of all the treasures he’d be able to find like that!

So long as he actually had a Pokemon that could use it.

Torterra was definitely out of the question with how much he weighed, and Bibarel and Eevee… well, they didn’t seem very much like the sort of Pokemon that fly.

Togepi…. Was a maybe? The little guy was still in an egg, so maybe once he got bigger he’d be able to, Lucas wasn’t really sure.

Porygon though… well, as he’d deduced last time, it was a weird Pokemon. Everything about it was weird. Its design was so simple, and yet…

Well, one of the words that had come to mind when inspecting its face the last time had been “beak”, hadn’t it?

And what had beaks? A lot of Flying types.

So maybe having a beak meant that Porygon could learn Fly!

Maybe he should ask the others about it when they all meet back up.

Or maybe he could find some info about it in his Pokedex? He quickly pulled the device out, scrolling through page after page of information. The short blurbs that the thing would read off weren’t all the information on these things, but finding anything else on them was a bit of a hassle. Rowan sure hadn’t made these things user friendly.

Then, Porygon twitched.

Such a small movement normally wouldn’t be something he’d notice, but with how perfectly still Porygon normally was, the movement stood out.

Lucas watched intently, waiting for something interesting to happen…

And then Porygon flashed brightly, darting for his Pokedex.

Not again! It had been such a pain dealing with Rotom in his Pokedex, if Lucas let another Pokemon roam around inside the thing, who knows what would happen?!

But Porygon was faster than he was, and there was nothing he could do.

His Pokedex started to speak, the robotic voice sounding much more clear than anything he’d heard from Rotom when the Electric type had an electronic possessed.

“Signal from home unit received. Transmitting data.”

Home unit? What data?

A high pitched sound blared out of his Pokedex, and Lucas started to feel a little strange.

“Tracing Synchronize. Tracing Cute Charm. Tracing…”

Lucas lost his train of thought.
