After an hour of running, Rose and I finally reached our destination and entered the area. As we did, the blizzard stopped, and a clear sky greeted us.
Although neither of us was tired, we both sighed as we saw wolves await us. They were growling and intensely staring at us. But for whatever reason, they didn’t attack.
Their pure white fur was soft looking, but as most hunters know, they’re tough to slice. As for their eyes, they were golden and—that was odd.
Wolves around the Shellheart domain usually have grey eyes or red eyes. There were occasions when they had another eye colour, but that mainly indicated a mutation, which would usually indicate they were stronger…
However… They all have golden eyes. They’re either evolved, or they’ve completely migrated.
It isn’t uncommon, but to relocate to the Shellheart domain? That was rarer since many of the animals from the outside could not survive here. Hence, these wolves must be far away from home or have evolved. If it’s the latter scenario, then Rose and I must retreat.
—but…it’s better to eradicate them.
I drew the sword, coated it in lighting, and further steeled it with mana.
“…Master Leon, we should leave,” Rose worriedly said.
“They won’t let us,” I replied.
Rose created a spear made of water and coldly looked at the wolves. “I’ll do my best to protect you, Master,” she said as her gentle nature completely disappeared.
Rose was a good fighter—however, she was better as a caster.
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll protect you while you attack.”
“…understood.”
Rose made more projectiles out of water as we waited for the wolves to attack. But…they were glaring at us while growling.
—there’s something strange about these wolves.
The inaction of the wolves made things more eerie, and then… We heard a loud howl. Both Rose and I turned our heads and found a much larger wolf.
‘…it’s a mystical beast,’ Rose murmured under her breath.
“Humans, why have you entered our turf?” it asked.
—this is bad. Very bad.
“…..”
Our eyes locked, and it didn’t say more while it kept intensely staring at me. It ignored Rose as if she wasn’t there. Perhaps it was due to the fact she lightly shook from fear?
“You got it backwards. This is our land,” I replied, looking into its cold golden eyes.
The wolf howled and laughed. “Amusing, what did I expect from a mere human? You always claim land whenever and wherever.”
It howled again, and all the other wolves surrounded Rose and me.
“…Master Leon, run back, tell Master and Madam.”
“I won’t leave you.”
Rose sharply glared at me and walked closer. In an instant, she tried to knock away my sword. But I denied her attempt by throwing it to the side and then pulling it back into my hand.
“Someone has to tell Mama and Papa, Rose, you’ll be the one to run. I promise to come right after you.”

“—but!”
“Who’s faster than me in the Shellheart region?” I let out a sigh. “This is an order.”
With a grim look on her face, Rose said, “…be safe, Master,” as she used a massive amount of mana and dashed through the wolves into the storm.
“How touching, one would assume it to be reversed.”
“…tell me, why have you come here?”
“Ahahaha! Stalling for time, are we!?”
Well, I tried. But it appears that it doesn’t want to talk. The smaller wolves that had surrounded loudly howled before attacking.
—unfortunately for them, I’m not some prey they can easily disorientate.
I strengthened my body, caught the first wolf by the neck, and threw it onto the others. Using the momentum of the throw, I spun around and kicked the wolf behind me. I grabbed the wolf's paws from above and threw it onto the ground.
“…”
They whimpered due to pain, and the hardened fur had become soft due to being neutralised by my blessing.
When the rest of the pack saw their fallen comrades, they began to rush in like mad beasts. Their claws were infused with frost, and their fangs lengthened and sharpened by ice.
I stepped back, and two had jumped into each other. Another tried to scratch, but the extended ice paws shattered as they came into contact with me. I quickly turned around, kicked it in the nose, and elbowed the other one to my side.
I then distanced myself, and as they were chasing me around—they all jumped, and a beam of frost quickly approached.
Crystalising my mana, I made a shield, but the wolves stood there when the frozen wave was over, staring at me while slowly backing away.
Looking at my shaky hands and legs, the frost lingered but slowly faded. It was cold and uncomfortable.
—it was Absolute Frost.
All the buildings that once stood firm had collapsed into smaller chunks of ice crystals, and the green grass had turned into deadly blades.
“Interesting,” The larger wolf commented.
It was the one to have launched the attack. Rather than being bewildered, it seemed amused instead.
“Child of Man, why have you not killed my kin? I suppose you’re not tying with them, are you?”
I coldly glared at it and said, “It seemed…like you got impatient anyhow, though.”
“Oh? You let them take their time to delay my interference? Cleaver child… I commend your effort, but it comes to an end here!”
It howled, and a tornado was descending from the heavens. A storm of frost and ice tore through the village as it chased me. But looking at the borders of the blessed area, the blizzard had stopped.
—don’t tell me…this mystical wolf was the cause of the storms?
I’ve charged up enough to flee, but…
—it made me incredibly mad.
I used Spark to close the distance between me and the wolf instantly. My blade was infused while I was aiming for its neck. It dodged, however, and the blade barely scratched it.
The wolf bled a little, but it was barely good enough as it felt like I was cutting with a dull blade. The effect of Spark ended, and it knocked me away with its paws.
“HUMAN?!” it cried, and when it looked down at its paw and saw blood dripping, it growled, “HOW DARE YOU!?”
Having crashed through buildings, I was trying to keep my composure. I bled a little, but that was fine… As I glanced at the sorry state of my sword. I let out a sigh. I had infused a lot of mana into it, and it still got dull with just two slashes.
—just how tough is it? The blizzard came to an end. Perhaps reinforcement will arrive faster now?
The magical beast ran toward me as I tried to recover some stamina. I kept distancing myself while the beast wreaked havoc, destroying the rest of the village.
—I just have to hold on. Just a little… Longer…
My vision was starting to get blurry. I’ve spent too much mana on that one blow. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to finish it off…
—but I can't die here! I don’t want to make Mama and Papa sad! I want to go to school with Vinz, Lia and Rachel! I…I have to attend Lottie's coming-of-age ceremony! I won’t let her fate end the way it did! That goes for everyone!

(are you a moron?)
I suddenly heard a voice, and the magical beast locked me down under its paws.
—huh? Request Cancelled…?
“Your antics come to an end, human,” the beast said while its eyes were but a few centimetres from mine.
—I’m going to die? in a place like this?
