Chapter 2 The Conductor

The lights clicker once more and the thing clacked its hands bring all attention to its self. "Like there was any need to." I thought to myself. The second the thing appeared it had everyone attention.

"Finally the last of passengers of this cart have arrived." A humorous, patronizing voice coming from the shadow covered face of the thing.

"What the abyss are you!?" The Pale man said with barely restrained anger in his voice. As he takes a step forward to comfort the thing. Before anyone could do anything in a blink of an eye, the pale man is sent flying, hitting one of the empty sites.

Still in that humorous, patronizing tone of voice. "To answer Mr. Torbert's second question, I'm The Conductor of this fine train, and I would ask that you all restrain yourselves from attacking the train's staff." As it looks at all of us, but it's hard to tell as I still couldn't really see it's face.

As I look at where Mr. Torbert landed, to my surprise he was unharmed, even after being skidded by that blow from The Conductor. It should have broken some of his ribs.

"Sorry Mr. Conductor could you tell us why we are here?" A tiny resonant voice ask. It came from a little girl no more older than 8. With shaggy blond hair, ruff clothing that look like it had be patch up and reaped many times with one blue eye and one green eye that shined with worry. Her skin was tanned from being under the sun for many hours.

"Mis. Noda you were informed before entering the train and so there is no need for me to repeat my self." The Conductor say almost mocking the girl. As that was happening I had a quick look to see who was in this room? It told me that if I counted everyone there was 11 of us but before I could take in anyone's else appears. The girl started to cry softly but made on sound.

The crimson headed woman moved to embrace the little girl as she glede at The Conductor as it looked on. "You don't have to be mean to her! And why should that matter? I've forgotten, and I'm sure the others have as well. So, why not tell us?" As a bloody sliver mist starts to clover the floor around her.

"Please control yourself, lady Lucas," the conductor says before moving its too long arm. "And you were informed before entering the train, so there is no need for me to repeat myself." The mist winked out of existence. "Now let's get back to why I cal-." Before it could finish what it was saying it was cut off by the thin black man.

"I don't want to be rude, conductor, but what can you tell us about this train?" He said in a calm, deep voice, giving a level stare at The Conductor.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

The Conductor seemed to be chuckling as it replied "I called you all to inform you on information that you didn't get before boarding the train and to inform you of some changes that have happened after boarding." I didn't know why, but the more it talked, the more annoyed I became. It seemed that it had that effect on most people in the room, except for the Ethereal and the black man. "First I will tell you what you weren't informed about before boarding. You weren't pick by random each of you having at leased meet one of the requirements. Next is the common room, your compartments and the dining room are safe zones, well outside of theses zones the inhibits of Umbral might attack you but as we have just started the journey nothing to dangers should appear." As it waves its hand the lights flicker once more and next to The Conductor was a disturbing creature.

It was sickly looking, the first thing that came to mind, then seeing the thing in front of all of us. The ashen skin was stretch over its body making the bones easily seen and discernably. It's claws were black as onyx knives connected to spindly fingers. It's head had one murky green eye that seemed to have a weak light shining inside; well, its mouth was wide and its teeth were like needles, with the same onyx color. Whatever The Conductor was doing to the creature to keep it still, it was making a piercing whistling noise.

"It must be a scavenger of some type and I don't think it's that weak, even if it looks sickly. Why do I know that?" I think to myself, starting to get a bit unnerved, to where I'm getting this knowledge. As I keep looking at the creature, it makes eye contact and I start to become lightheaded. Before anything else could happen, The Conductor puts its hand on the creature's head and crushes it like an egg.

"Next, if anyone leave the train before we arrive at the your destination you will not be allowed back on to the train. Last thing before I get to the changes the quicker you all advance the quick the train will arrive at its destination also the more likely you will survive." Before The Conductor could continue Mr. Torbert's speaks up in a more calmer voice but still in a gruff and dooming voice.

"What do you mean by advance?" As he striates in his seat.

In that same voice, The Conductor say. "You were informed before entering the train and so there is no need for me to repeat my self."

"Why does it keep repeating itself like that?" The more I think about it, the odder it seems. But to my surprise, Mr. Torbert didn't become aggressive at that answer but just expended it.

"Sadly, the controller had some problems with the Umbral Heart," The Conductor sounded anything but sad about this. "And so some changes had to be made. First, travel between carts is going to be much more difficult, so until you make your first advancement, the controller advises that you don't attend it. Secondly some of the inhabitants weren't removed from the previous voyage and they don't particularly care for the rules. Do any you have questions. No, good well I better be off need to check up on the other passengers." With a laugh and the flicker of the lights, The Conductor was gone before anyone could do anything but blink.

"Well that was helpful wasn't it." Said the brown-clothed man with tired smile as he looked at the group but his eyes gained a golden glint to them.
