Lucy’s fist flew forward, connecting right with Sol’s cheek. Sol rocketed across the room and slammed into the wall. He instinctively moved a layer of mana to the back of his head before the collision. The wooden wall began to crack, and soon after Sol’s body caught up to his head and slammed into the wall.
‘Deja vu?’ Sol thought to himself as he fell to the floor, and his vision started to darken. Just before his vision fully went out, he saw Lucy clumsily running over to him.
Sol woke up and stared at the ceiling in a daze. He touched his cheek and winced.
‘Other than this cheek, a headache, and some soreness I feel mostly fine. I thought I was really dead.’ He let out a breath of relief. Then, he stared at the ceiling with a determined look.
‘I’ll show you what happens when you mess with me,’ Sol thought to himself. But despite his brave words, all he did was lie in place.
“I’m ho-,” Nicky started announcing as she stepped through the door before being cut off.
Nicky instantly heard Sol wailing. She looked forward, seeing the dent in the wall and Sol lying on the ground beneath it with tears rolling out of his eyes. Within Sol, his soul energy was channeled through him to his eyes, creating water. Nicky’s body teleported across the room.
“My baby! Are you okay?” Nicky swooped Sol into her arms and cast a spell, causing Sol to glow.
“Ah, you got two boo-boos on your head!” Nicky exclaimed while Sol continued his magic crocodile tears. A slight guilty look came across his face seeing his mom’s panic.
“Let’s get you healed up, but-” Nicky watched Sol for a second and then continued, “You shouldn’t use your magic like that.”
‘Ah.’ Sol froze in place, his wailing and tears coming to a halt.
‘Busted.’
However, before he had time to ruminate, his mom began gushing.
“Aww, who’s my little genius baby? Already trying to trick his mommy. You’re so cute.” Nicky pinched his cheeks affectionately, making Sol wince again.
The door behind Sol shut as he floated down, sitting with his back to the door. He raised his arm and wiped off the tears that were forming.

‘Finally, the shame is over. I can use the bathroom again.’
Interrupting his emotional moment, the front door opened up. Nicky walked through the door holding two filled bags. Nicky looked at Sol, who was eying the bags in her hand curiously.
“These groceries are for you. It’s a custom where I grew up for babies to have their first real meal on their half-birthday.” The bags in her hands started floating, and she went and picked Sol up.
“We can’t have you passing out right before dinner.” Nicky carried him over to the kitchen.
A wooden kitchen table sat lonely by the window, only having a single chair by it. But when Nicky approached the table, two high chairs that matched the table formed, and Nicky sat Sol into one of them.
Sol sat there patiently while he watched his mom work in the kitchen. A flame appeared from nowhere beneath the pan she was using. Sol watched as she prepared chicken and mashed potatoes, each ingredient flying to her or falling from nowhere when she needed it. A content expression snuck onto his face.
‘I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a home-cooked meal.’
She proceeded to carefully cut the chicken into tiny pieces and triple-check to make sure it was properly cooked. He even saw her casting what appeared to be some type of examination magic onto it. Sol’s mouth began to water as he stared at the food set in front of him, but he lacked silverware.
“I’ll go grab your sister.” Nicky walked off and returned with Lucy.
When they arrived, Lucy’s eyes lit up upon seeing the table, drool even escaping her mouth. But she was too distracted to notice it. Lucy was sat down across from Sol, while Nicky sat between them in the window-facing seat. Lucy pounced on the food the second she was seated, reaching out to the potatoes with her hands.
“No, you’re supposed to use utensils for eating.” Nicky blocked Lucy’s pudgy arm.
Nicky gestured with her hand, and small wooden spoons formed in front of both of them, and Lucy reached for the spoon immediately. Sol mused to himself, watching the scene play out in front of him with a gentle smile.
‘Come to think of it, if I was still on Earth, this would be my birthday. Hmm… what should I get for myself as a birthday present?’ He contemplated for a moment, then an ‘aha’ expression formed.
Lucy was quickly approaching her mashed potatoes with the spoon in hand, drooling. Sol’s hand also reached out in front of him, but he wasn’t carrying a spoon.
Suddenly, a strong blast of wind pushed the back of Lucy’s head. Before she could react, her head slammed down into the mashed potatoes.
Her head shot up to see Sol laughing across from her. A bloodthirsty look came to her potato-covered face. She clenched her fists but opened them back up and took the potato off her face. She then chucked the potatoes as hard as she could at Sol’s face, causing his high chair to lean back.
Sol proceeded to use his magic to launch the potatoes from his face back at Lucy. The two flung their food back and forth, and Lucy’s expression grew more pissed as the fight raged on. It didn’t help her temper that Sol was laughing.
‘What a nice birthday.’
Sol’s smile paled, as when he broke his reverie he saw Lucy flying towards him with her fist extending.
‘Goodnight,’ was all he had time to think before his vision started darkening, and just as his consciousness was fading he saw Nicky wearing a warm smile gently say, “No roughhousing at the table you two.”
