On year 2045, world war three started. But instead of different countries trying to beat each other, the world was divided into two. The followers of creation and the followers of destruction. The war lasted for years, and after the two sides destroyed each other, the gods showed up.
After that, I don’t know. Ever since the gods showed up, I’ve been hiding in my underground base, which has three layers of shock proof rubber to keep me safe and is situated five miles beneath ground. It has three wide rooms, one for me, one for my ultimate collection, and one for food supplies maintained by androids.
I’ve been living here for god knows how long without having any problems. I have food, I have water from the water crystal, I have electricity from the generator on my room, and I have things to spend my time on.
I have a collection of mangas, animes and fictions from 2000s to 2040s, which has never failed to entertain me. Once I started living here, I forced myself to only read 2000s materials and from there, slowly made my way to the 2040s materials. Ah, how art has improved, how animations have improve, but it’s sad that I can never see it improve even more.
This year was a blast, every material was about fantasy life, and it is the genre I enjoy the most. If I die, can I get reincarnated to a fantasy world? Or better, can I get summoned as a hero? No, that would be bad, I’m too old to be one.
I’m probably around fifty seven or fifty eight right now and I can say proudly, I’m an otaku since birth. Life is nothing without happiness, and my happiness is being an otaku, so life is nothing if I’m not an otaku. I lived as an otaku and will die as an otaku.
Now, this little world of mine will crumble, the generator finally gave in, the water and air crystals are almost destroyed, the androids maintaining the food are gone, I’m out of food, and I only have one more material left to read.
Despite the shock proof rubber around this place, I’ve been feeling earthquakes for a week now, I guess the outside is almost done for.
I stood up with my now malnourished body, and walked to the only door leading outside. I’ll die, I’ll die without finishing this last fiction, but I do not want that. I need to finish this, I need to know what happens next, I can’t die without ever seeing the end of the story.

With the final amount of electricity, I ordered the base to lead me above ground. If I don’t have food here, then I’ll find one outside. I’ll live, I have to live until I finish this one.
The base moved up, but lost power before completely jumping out of the ground. On the last attempt, I blasted the door away, creating a hole leading to the outside world.
I climbed, I climbed with all that I have and once I reached the ground, I was surprised with what I saw. It was the complete replica of an apocalypse manga I’ve read. But that did not matter, since after looking a bit more, I saw two corpses near and it was still fresh, no, actually it’s still alive.
I’ve been eating raw food for a long time now, so eating them wouldn’t be so hard. It’s disgusting, but I have to. To fulfill my role as an otaku and read the last fiction.
I moved closer and saw that they could no longer move, to end their pain, to ease my hunger, and to stay true to my otaku way, I killed them and dragged them to my base.
I ate the two, and used their life to prolong mine, but it was a mistake. I shouldn’t have done it.
“WHAT’S THE POINT OF LIVING LONGER IF THE FICTION I WAS READING GOT AXED?” As I screamed, power flowed throughout my body.
I unconsciously flew to the sky and destroyed everything in sight. “WHY? WHY? THEY WERE SO FUCKING GOOD TOGETHER SO WHY?”WHY DID MY FUCKING SHIP SUNK?”
I continued to do that, until the world itself started to fall apart. The gravity keeping the world in one piece vanished, different chemicals and minerals that I haven’t seen before spread around the sky, and life that I haven't seen before reflected unto my eyes.
As the world crumbled, I uttered. “So this is how everything ends?” I closed my eyes and released a sigh. “I hate axed endings.”
And then, a light appeared from the sky and teleported me to another place.
